Volume 3 The Tale of the Oni
Segara Takayuki, the younger brother of Segara Takaomi, had a personality quite different from his elder brother. He was quiet and gentle, with looks that could captivate anyone—a striking beauty that transcended gender boundaries.
Takayuki's fiancée, Kaoru, came from a well-off family in the village, which allowed them to raise their two children comfortably. The peony-patterned kimono had been passed down through generations in their family, and Kaoru had only worn it once in her lifetime, during their wedding ceremony.
Takayuki's magic, called 'Dream of Santa (Dream of Misery),' had the power to shape hatred and anger into reality. Having lived a life of constant disdain since birth, he had never considered harboring hatred before.
However, when he finally found happiness and had it stolen away from him, his magic manifested as an expression of revenge. Takayuki swore vengeance and met a wandering swordsman on a mountain, from whom he learned the ways of the sword.
The swordsman sensed Takayuki's vengeful heart and sought to purify it through the path of the sword, but ultimately, his efforts were in vain.
