Volume 5 Chapter 14 Love is Truly Strange
Hinata was confessed to by Takayama, and then got involved with some bad guys, but Yuusuke helped her out. She convey something other than her feelings.
Souji listened to it with his usual expression.
"I see. I can see the whole story. It was unfortunate, Hinata."
"...Aren't you surprised?"
"About what?"
It was already decided.
"I've never heard that Senpai good at fighting. Moreover, he has never shown any signs of it either."
The Yuusuke that Hinata knows is a man who tries to look cool but fails. He's weaker than most women when it comes to alcohol, and he doesn't study hard even though he doesn't fail.
He used to play futsal with the members of the literature club, but he ended up being a benchwarmer due to his lack of skills. It was just a casual futsal game.
Hinata had never imagined Yuusuke getting into a fight.
"Oh, by the way, I haven't told Hinata about it."
"What do you mean?"
Souji scratched his head as if it was difficult to say, and sighed as if there was no other choice.
"I don't really want to say it, but I used to get into fights a lot in the past. I hardly ever lost."
"...Is that so?"
Hinata was at a loss for words because she couldn't tell if he was joking or not. If it was Souji, she wouldn't be so surprised even if he lived a life full of fights.
It would be more surprising if he was a model student.
Whether Souji knew about Hinata's conflict or not, he continued speaking.
"But I've never won against Yuusuke."

That was definitely surprising.
As far as Hinata knew, Yuusuke and Souji were very close. They often hang out with Matsuda, but the sight of the two of them together was impressive.
She couldn't imagine the two of them getting into a physical fight.
Perhaps that thought was written on her face, Souji said with a sigh.
"I was stressed out at that time. Try getting involved with him when you're feeling down, it's annoying."

"Right?"
He's always meddling, that's Yuusuke. Hinata thinks that's a good thing, but Souji used to find it annoying. Setting aside the fight, that flow made sense.

Souji paused there and looked directly into Hinata's eyes. With a seriousness she had never seen before.
"Yuusuke has an extremely low priority for himself. No, to be honest, he completely ignores himself. And I don't know if it's related to the past."

Hinata couldn't say anything in response to those words.
She couldn't affirm or deny it. She didn't know him well enough to do that. She only thought about herself and truly didn't know anything. No, she hadn't tried to find out.
Hinata lowered her gaze at that realization.
Souji quickly brightened his tone.
"So, it's not like I want to meddle, but retreating from dealing with that person will definitely have the opposite effect. Misunderstandings will only worsen. "
"Is that advice?"
"I don't know. Maybe I just felt like saying something because I know someone who has distanced themselves from that person."
Even without asking, Hinata knew who it was.
Come to think of it, Yuusuke didn't try to reconcile with her. Even though they were so close, it's clear that there are lingering feelings.
I see, Souji is right. Hinata smiled as usual and looked back at Souji.

Souji finished his coffee and stood up.
It seems like he really wanted to talk about Yuusuke. Or maybe he was just that worried?
He's really not good at this. He's a nice person though.
Hinata felt strangely irritated by the Ise Monogatari she took out, flicking the cover with her finger and resting her cheek on her hand.
