Volume 5 Chapter 31 Poker Is Famous, But Many People Haven't Played It

Poker is a very famous game among card games. The rules are simple. You make a hand with your two personal cards and the shared cards on the table, and decide whether to compete with your opponent.

If you win, you get the chips you bet, and if you lose, you lose them.

In other words, this game is mainly a psychological battle.

Even if your hand doesn't have a good combination, you can still win with a bluff.

Poker is like a battle. You hide your advantages and disadvantages, read your opponent's intentions, and strike when you see an opportunity.

If your opponent is a tipsy amateur, you won't lose.

At the beginning of the game, you have 500 chips.

"The small blind is 50, and the big blind is 100."

The blind is a mandatory bet, like an entrance fee to the game. The first person bets 50, and the second person bets 100. After that, each person can choose to call (bet the same amount), raise (bet double the amount), or fold (quit).

There are more detailed rules, but for an amateur game played while drinking, it's easier to stick to simple ones.

Since I'm the big blind this time, I bet 100.

The dealer deals the cards starting with the man who became the dealer. A queen of hearts and a five of spades.

 "Call."

 "Call."

 "Call."

All three bet 100 and the round ends. I could raise the bet here, but I'll hold off for now.

 "Okay, let's go."

The dealer reveals three shared cards on the table.

 A two of clubs.

 A three of spades.

 A jack of hearts.

Currently, I have nothing. But I'm not panicking yet. There are still two shared cards left. If there's a queen or a five among them, I'll have a pair.

In poker, it's not about making big hands, but about winning with small ones.

I'll be aggressive here and raise the bet to 200.

 "Raise."

 "Call."

 "Call."

 "Fold."

Each person chooses to fight or quit.

The final shared card is revealed.

 A queen of diamonds.

Alright, I have a pair. And it's pretty strong.

But I can't make an obvious raise here. If they realize I have something, they won't bet any more chips.

I show a little hesitation before passing the turn.

 "Raise."

Then, the man next to me raises the bet to 400.

Hahaha. How foolish. I have a queen, a queen. Do you really think you can beat me with just your numbers?

After the final card is revealed, nothing changes, and the last round begins.

 "Three of a kind."

First, the dealer reveals his hand. Hmm, weak.

"I have a pair of queens."

In order not to let a smile spill, I reveal my hand with a calm demeanor. This is what a true poker face is supposed to be. The Queen card seems to be smirking.

"Oh, that's a pretty good hand."

 Huh?

The last person reveals their hand.

There, shining brightly, is a one pair of the Ace card.

 What... what is this...

 "I win."

How can the number one be stronger than picture cards? Is this game glitched or something?
