Volume 5 Chapter 4 Goodbye Summer Vacation, Damn New Semester

"Hey, Yamamoto, do you know Takayama?"

 "Takayama?"

I wondered who they were talking about, and then I realized they were referring to the stylish bearded guy. I looked around.

"Come to think of it, I haven't seen him."

We just finished the first period of modern literature. He was supposed to be in this class too. Come to think of it, I haven't seen him since school started.

I turned to the side and asked.

 "Matsuda, do you know anything?"

"I don't know. Probably just skipping."

"Skipping? He's already in danger of failing."

Matsuda, who was melting on the desk, shook his finger sideways and said, "Tch, tch, you don't understand."

"People who attend lectures because they're in danger of failing don't end up repeating the year."

 "True."

Reluctantly, I agreed. That makes sense.

The guy with the crew cut who asked me first put his hand on his chin and said, "I see." By the way, this guy, the breast lover, is the one who passionately talked about Isahaya-senpai, during the training camp.

"But, if he's just skipping, that's fine."

 "Was he not feeling well?"

"It's not because of that, Yuusuke."

 Then what is it?

"Well, you know, he got rejected by Hinata during the training camp, right?"

"Even if you say it like it's common knowledge."

 I already knew.

 "I know too."

 "Me too."

 "What do you mean?"

Souji and Matsuda said. It's really common knowledge. The story of heartbreak spreads too quickly.

"Oh, Yuusuke didn't come to the second day's drinking party because you weren't feeling well."

Yeah, it's not that I wasn't feeling well, I just couldn't bring myself to go because I scared Hinata. And then Kuroi-san came to comfort me, and I got involved in the youkai sword incident. And there were various things with Tsukiko too, I don't want to remember.

I held onto my thoughts that were about to fly away.

 "Did something happen?"

"After Hinata-chan went back to her room in the second half, Takayama, it was really bad. He was bothered and cried. Most of the members of the literary club probably already know, right?"

"It turned into a hellish scene..."

It was a good decision not to go.

As I was relieved, Souji remembered something and said.

"By the way, Yuusuke, did something happen between you and Hinata? I heard you saved her from a pick-up artist."

 Huh?

How does Souji know about that? I'm sure I told the president to keep it a secret.

"What, what are you talking about?"

"Matsuda said something like that, did something like that really happen?"

 Are you the culprit, Matsuda?

I looked and saw the culprit smiling and making a peace sign. This guy.

I won't ask where he got the information from now. Like father, like son. There's a possibility that I won't be able to come back if I step in too much.

I thought about opening the peace sign 180 degrees, but I stopped because it might be a reward.

"There's nothing. I just happened to meet Hinata right after she rejected him, and the story got exaggerated."

 "I see."

Souji nodded with a face that seemed to understand and not understand. He might have figured it out.

Rather, it might be better if Souji knows. I can't get close to Hinata anymore, but Souji would be the perfect bodyguard. If this red-haired muscular guy is around, no weird bugs would come near.

"So, is it because Takayama got rejected by Hinata that he might find it hard to come to school?"

"No, I'm not worried about that, Yuusuke."

 Why not?

"How many times do you think he gets rejected in a year? It's just a small damage like being rejected by a junior in the club or breaking a pinky finger."

"Hey, that's quite a fatal blow."

"The number of times and the damage don't seem to be related."

The crew cut guy ignored my reasonable objections.

"The problem is the actions he takes after being rejected."

"But he just gets drunk normally, right?"

"Yamamoto, you lack imagination. What would you do if someone rejected you?"

"I would feel down for a while."

After breaking up with Eris and being rejected by Tsukiko, I couldn't recover for a long time. If you ask me if I have recovered from the current situation, I can't really say.

The crew cut nodded at my words.

 "You're such a weak guy."

 "Hey, I'll punch you."

He would rough me up with that crew cut.

"Well, wait. When a normal guy gets rejected by a girl, there's something he always does."

We're about to start the next lecture, and I hope it's over soon. In front of us, the crew cut insisted.

 "Find your next love."

 "That's pretty normal."

"It's different from just finding love normally."

I don't really understand what he means.

"A guy who has been rejected is in a state of longing for love. Women who would usually not catch his attention suddenly appear 50% cuter to him. In other words, the bar has been lowered to the extreme."

 "That's a prejudice."

"But with the current Takayama, he probably thinks it's okay as long as it's not a crime."

"The bar is almost on the ground."

"You don't understand, Yamamoto. It's the end of summer vacation, and we're approaching the cultural festival. Everyone, including him, has lost sight of their duties as students, getting caught up in love and creating a space that should be despised. Wrapped in an air sweeter than chocolate, it's inevitable to lose oneself."

 "Well... I guess that's possible."

If you look around the room as he said that, there are quite a few couples wrapped in a sweet atmosphere. Our cultural festival lasts for three days, and it's natural for both genders to want to find a partner for that.

It's like the last-minute rush before Christmas.

"The Night Parade held at the end of the Souten Festival is basically done in male-female pairs. Many people aspire to that."

The crew cut shrugged his shoulders at that.

"Well, maybe it's a story you wouldn't understand with your superficial syndrome, Yuusuke."

"I'll punch you for sure, you know"

Seriously, who's the one with the superficial syndrome?

As I was about to grab his collar, Matsuda spoke while tapping on his phone.

"Well, there might be a possibility. Takayama has always been fond of women. But if he's going to make a new girlfriend, isn't that fine? It would be less painful for Hinata-chan too."

Matsuda is surprisingly making a valid point... What happened? Did this pervert take a break in exchange for summer vacation? It would be fine for him to stay that way forever.

Ignoring my surprise, the crew cut answered with a serious expression.

"But I can't accept him having a girlfriend in any form."

 "Hey, you're being refreshingly selfish."

It's not a big deal if someone gets a girlfriend.

Matsuda nodded deeply, placing his finger on his chin.

 "Indeed, you have a point."

"Where? You didn't even make a valid argument."

"People are curious, you know. If you talk to anyone, regardless of who it is, there's a possibility it could happen."

"That's right. Since Isumi is dating Yamamoto, anything is possible."

Is this crew cut trying to pick a fight since earlier?

Souji, who had been silent until then, stood up and said.

"If that's the case, let's go and confirm it directly."

He shook his phone as if to show it to us.

"Today's classical literature exercise has been canceled."

Our next lecture was supposed to be a classical literature exercise.

I see. Well, there's nothing we can do about it then.

So, we left the lecture building to look for Takayama.
