Volume 5 Chapter 66 The Journey Of The Breaking Saint

In the vast forests of eastern Canada, two hours away by car from a nearby rural town, lies a deep part of the woods that is not easily recognizable as a forest. There, two people, a small girl in a parka and cap and an old man in formal attire, were present.

"Ugh, this is such a pain. Are you sure we're supposed to be here?"

 "According to my research, undoubtedly."

"If this turns out to be a waste of time, I'll kill you."

 "As you wish."

The girl in the parka and cap is the Saint Mevia, and the old man is her guardian, Sebas. They have come to this forest to find the final "key."

Mevia frowned at Sebas' response and asked a question,

"It's all well and good to hide, but in a place where there are no people, there's no way to hide magic power."

"Yes, that's why we ended up in a battle. Thanks to that, we were able to gather information."

Mevia grumbled as she walked briskly through the forest. Sebas followed her quietly but never strayed too far away.

Contrary to her appearance, Mevia has gone through a grueling journey with Yuusuke and his friend. This mountain path was nothing to her.

As she jumped over the roots of trees, she suddenly heard something that broke the sound barrier. It was an arrow. The arrow flew through the dense trees and aimed at Mevia's head.

 "Oh?"

Sebas, who was walking behind her, caught the arrow before it reached Mevia. He moved at a speed that seemed like teleportation and caught the arrow with ease.

 "What's this?"

"It's an arrow. Magic has been used."

 "Where did it come from?"

"I'm sorry. It seems to have been shot from a considerable distance. I can't be sure where the shooter is."

 "Useless."

Mevia clicked her tongue and lightly touched the ground with her right hand.

"Then I'll flush them out from all directions."

Immediately after, a wave of magic power spread out from her. It spread quietly without harming or threatening anything. Her magic is the healing of life. As long as there is life, Mevia's detection cannot be escaped.

"Wait. I have identified who you are."

Immediately after, a voice came from above.

Sebas stood in front of Mevia, and she stood up from the ground. Then she looked up and said,

"Who are you? Are you looking down on us without even showing your face? Come down here now, or I'll kick you down."

Regardless of the situation or the opponent's identity, Mevia never backs down if she is not convinced. This is why she is called the Overwhelming Berserker by Yuusuke and Kogarou.

The shooter, who had been hiding in the branches and leaves, seemed to realize that Mevia was serious. He jumped down from the tree. The person who landed was a man with a black hood covering his face. He seemed to have moved here in an instant after shooting an arrow.

He was probably the same size as Sebas. He held a bow in his left hand and had a quiver on his back.

And now, the man bowed deeply.

"I apologize for my rudeness. I had no choice but to test you since I didn't know your identity."

"What kind of idiot shoots an arrow to identify someone?"

If Yuusuke heard this, he would probably say, "Pot calling the kettle black," Mevia thought. The man looked down at the bow in his hand.

"For me, it's the most foolproof method."

 "Whatever. You're a gloomy guy."

 The man said nothing.

Mevia convinced herself that it was something similar to understanding someone by crossing swords, which the swordsmen she had met in the past had said with a straight face.

Anyway, she had found her target.

"You're a guardian, right? I'm a 'key' and this is my servant."

 "Sebas is my name."

Sebas, introduced as a servant rather than a guardian, bowed his head without denying it.

"I'm Nest Anguise. Just a hunter with nothing else to call myself."

"Just a hunter chosen to be a guardian?"

"That's a fact. But first, let me ask you one thing. You are Saint Mevia, aren't you?"

Mevia pushed up her cap. Her red eyes looked at the man's shining golden hair as if it had been combed with a comb.

"Yes, I'm Mevia. So that's why you wanted to know my identity."

"Your magic power is overflowing with life force. There's nothing else like it."

After saying that, the man bowed his head again. But this time, he kneeled and placed his bow on the ground, bowing even deeper.

"Holy Goddess Church beseeches the Saint. In addition to atonement for my previous rudeness, I humbly ask for your mercy as I offer this life to you."

 "What is it?"

"There is someone I want you to save."

The hesitant words were probably not something he used often. Even without asking, Mevia could tell that the person the guardian wanted to save was someone for whom he was willing to sacrifice his life.

Mevia crouched down and put her hand on Nest's head, lifting his face up. The face that was hidden by the hood was younger than she had imagined. He was still young enough to be called a youth. His brown eyes looked at Mevia in surprise.

"I don't care about your life. If you have time to bow your head, guide me immediately. I hate being in a place where I can be killed."

Mevia was a Saint. Regardless of being called a transgressor, her essence was devotion and salvation.

Sebas watched her from behind with a smile.
