Volume 6 Chapter 31 The One Who Confronts Calamity
The time was approaching evening. However, the city was engulfed in an eerie darkness.
There are no clouds and the sun didn't set early either.
A thin darkness like mist enveloped the city, causing the light to disappear.
Everyone noticed this anomaly, but without knowing its cause, they hurriedly headed home. Their instincts whispered not to walk through this darkness.
The culprit who brought about this darkness was racing through the darkened sky.
It was a Nue that had escaped from Kouya Castle.
Normally, it would feast on passing humans, but there was no time for distractions for Nue now.
The only thing on its mind was to annihilate everything precious to that knight, fueled by an unyielding obsession.
In order to accomplish that, it had dashed a long distance until reaching this city.
Just a bit more. It would soon arrive. The scent was becoming stronger.
How should it kill? Strangulation, biting, driving to madness, or burning?
With the future in sight, Nue licked its lips as it continued to run.
But no matter what form it takes, it remains unchanged. Is that knight still fighting in the castle? If it were to line up the heads of those important people right in front of him, what kind of reaction would he have?
Nue twisted its monkey face and grinned, baring its gums.
──Hyorororooo!
While scattering eerie cries, Nue tried to increase its speed even further.
But at that moment.
"Hyo──!"
A shock pierced through its head. Its body tilted, and its eyes were pushed forward by the impact.
Something had pierced through its head.
Nue stopped its feet and looked around. It wouldn't die from a wound like this, unless its head was cut off. But there was no doubt that someone had targeted it and attacked.
Realizing the identity of its attacker, Nue smiled again in astonishment.

A treasure had come out from over there.

'Are you really okay?'
It was repeated confirmations. So, the answer to that was also the same.
"There's no problem. I'll handle it on my own."
Kanami placed the long gun she was holding on the ground and stood up from a kneeling position.
The one speaking through the communication magic tool was Kagami Ayaka. She had quickly noticed the abnormalities attacking the city and was trying to deal with them with the Anti-Demon Officials.
And the one who stopped it was Kanami.
'But that 'Mystery,' clearly isn't the type to do anything by itself. At least you should ask Tsukiko or Sharla-san for support.'
"Yes, that might be the right thing to do."
Kanami replied while watching Nue running towards her using her "Shayka Eyes."
"But even so, I will defeat this enemy alone."
With a strong determination, Ayaka fell silent upon hearing those words.
Kanami understands as well. According to Ayaka's explanation, the "Mystery" called Nue is a monster equivalent to a demon in Japan.
It has the power to manipulate the weather, and the pressure of its magic power can be felt from such a distance. It's extraordinary no matter how you look at it. Considering the timing of its appearance and the fact that it's targeting them, there is no doubt that it is an enemy involved with "New World (Try Order)" or a demon.
Now, she will engage in a few seconds.
She could feel sweat starting to drip on her hands.
As Ayaka said, if she asks for assistance, she might be able to easily defeat it. Or perhaps Sharla, even without using magic, might have the potential to kill it with a yawn.
However, that's not enough. What Kanami is seeking, what she must seek, is not such a stable victory.

Just two months ago, Kanami was defeated by the sudden invasion of Larkan Mines. She wasn't even seen as an enemy, and the other party didn't even feel the need to kill her. In short, she wasn't recognized as a threat.
That's why Larkan let her choose once.

There is no one else in this place other than Kanami. Even Lisha is at home.

The moment Kanami leapt up, gunshots and thunder roared.
