Volume 6 Chapter 45 Interlude - The Life Game, Part One

This is a story that takes place some time after the share house was decided. In the living room, Yuusuke is watching TV, and Sharla is naturally leaning on his shoulder. At first, Yuusuke tried to push her away, but he eventually gave up due to her strong grip and unwavering determination.

Kanami is sitting on the sofa, reading a book.

Tsukiko is in her room, working on an assignment she received from university, so she is not here.

In this peaceful room, Lisha appears.

 "Yuusuke-san, what is this?"

 "Hm?"

Upon raising his head, Yuusuke sees Lisha in her roomwear standing there. In her hands, she holds a large box.

It is a "Life (Isshou Game)," a game that every Japanese person has played at least once. It is essentially like a game of sugoroku, where players move their own pawn according to the number shown on the roulette and something written on the stopped square happens. It's a board game that features colorful roulette and illustrations of children who seem unnecessarily happy.

Oh, come to think of it, Matsuda brought that one saying, "Let's play it together!" a long time ago.

Since it's not a game to be played alone, Yuusuke stashed it in the closet, but the Anti-Demon Officials apparently went out of their way to bring it in.

 "It's a board game."

 "A board game, you say?"

 Lisha's eyes are sparkling.

Yes, she wants to give it a try.

Yuusuke knows Sharla and Tsukiko well, but Kanami and Lisha are different. Yuusuke thought it would be a good opportunity to deepen their friendship, so he agreed.

And so, with Tsukiko also joining in, Yamamoto-san's "Life Game" began.

However, just as they were about to start, suddenly...

"...I'm good. As long as I can watch Yuusuke."

Sharla's defiant remark narrowed the participants down to Yuusuke, Lisha, Kanami, and Tsukiko.

"Come to think of it, I've never played a life game before..."

 "For real?"

Yuusuke was surprised by Tsukiko's words, but he kept his mouth shut, remembering his childhood home. Indeed, he had never imagined gathering with everyone to play a life game during New Year's.

In the end, the only one who fully understands the rules among the participants is Yuusuke, but all they have to do is spin the roulette.

"I just need to spin this, right?"

"Yeah, that's how we determine the order."

They determine the order based on the result of the roulette.

As a result, it's my turn, then Lisha, Kanami, and Tsukiko.

 "Well, shall we start?"

I spin the roulette. In this life game, for now, it is designed to stop at the occupation square. If it stops at the salary square, you receive a salary corresponding to that occupation.

The highest salary is for "doctor". Though one can't really aim for it.

 "Which one is the best?"

"A stable and high-paying job would be a doctor. Depending on the result of the roulette, the streamer might have the highest salary, but the expected value is low. The worst is stopping at the unemployed square with a result of one."

Tsukiko explains to Lisha. It's hard to describe, but it's an interesting scene.

While spinning the roulette, I join in the conversation.

"Usually, it ends up with being an office worker or something like that."

 Click, click, click, click.

 One.

 "Um... what's this?"

 "It's one, so it's unemployed."

 Tsukiko's calm voice echoed.

"Hey, no one wanted to collect this kind of flag."

What the hell is an "unemployed"? It's no longer a profession.

So, Hero is essentially unemployed? Oppose job discrimination!

 "It's my turn next, right?"

Lisha... she's probably going to land on the doctor's space anyway.

That's what I thought, but she landed on the "streamer" space.

"Streamers, those who stream videos, right? I wanted to try it too!"

"You do watch them all the time."

"But when I go back there, I don't know what the people at the church will say."

Well, it's okay. No matter what they say, they'll just think, "What is she talking about?"

Honestly, it's scary and immoral to corrupt the Saint of the Holy Goddess Church, who values poverty, with cutting-edge technology from modern society. There's no McDonald's over there either, so I might not be able to survive anymore.

 "Hello, it's Lisha."

 Lisha muttered quietly.

Even if she were to start streaming videos, I don't think she would go down that route.
