Volume 7 Chapter 33 Interlude - Kagami-San's Speed Dating Diary, Part 1

"Hey, Ayaka! Let's confirm the promise."

 "Yeah."

Kagami Ayaka nodded with a serious face.

Confirming her demeanor, Ogasa Shiori spoke in a serious tone.

 "One, no ghost stories."

 "No ghost stories."

 "Two, no cursed objects."

 "No cursed objects."

 "Three, magic is strictly prohibited."

 "No dangerous magic, got it?"

"Yeah, got it... Wait a second. Did you just add unnecessary words?"

"Well, if it's love magic, it should be fine, right?"

 "There's no way it's fine!"

Shiori slammed her hand on the table, and the customers around them gave them annoyed looks.

Shiori, feeling uncomfortable under the gaze of others, whispered softly.

"Hey, you know, right? The people who are coming to the group date today are normal people who have nothing to do with magic or youkai. No weird stuff allowed. Ordinary people can't handle it."

"But, love magic is like a charm, right? Everyone does it. Look, writing your name on an eraser, or sharing an umbrella."

Ayaka argued back, and Shiori let out a deep sigh.

"Don't you remember, in high school, how much trouble you caused with that love charm?"

 "Did I?"

"You wrote someone else's name on an eraser and it was sold for a high price, or you got involved in a fight between girls, I had a hard time because of you!"

The second bang on the table drew more attention from the surroundings.

Shiori apologized and bowed her head.

"Hey, calm down. You're standing out."

"Whose fault do you think this is, huh?"

Shiori said with a tearful face.

"Sorry, sorry. No magic, got it."

Ayaka, who was apologizing, looked beautiful even through the eyes of her friend, Shiori. Her ponytail hair, which hadn't changed since their school days, and minimal makeup accentuated her natural beauty.

Perhaps because she didn't go to college and started working right after high school graduation, Ayaka seemed much more mature than herself.

On the other hand, Shiori had recently become a working professional and was coming home from work today. Her suit, which she was finally getting used to, had a small necklace peeking out from the collar.

Shiori and Ayaka have been friends since high school.

Moreover, Shiori happened to know that Ayaka is a magician.

Thanks to that, during high school, Shiori ended up running around taking care of Ayaka's strange antics and even went to investigate the school's seven mysteries, experiencing a slightly darker youth than most people.

But if someone ask if it was the worst memory, in the end, they are arranging this group blind date, so one can say that their relationship can be inferred.

While cooling her head with lemonade, Shiori changed the topic.

"But, I was surprised that Ayaka is going on a group blind date."

 "Oh, really?"

"You see, when we were in high school, you weren't really into that stuff, you know? Even when people confessed to you, you turned them all down."

Ayaka is popular. She's a beauty just by staying quiet, so there should be no shortage of suitors for her.

Ayaka sighed and looked into the distance.

"Yeah, honestly, I wasn't that interested in romance back in the day. But now that I'm getting older, I crave some comfort. Dealing with all those gloomy spirits and youkai every day can really bring me down."

 "Wow, that sounds tough."

"More than anything, I mentioned having a childhood friend, right?"

"Oh, Tsukiko-chan, was it? She was cute, wasn't she?"

When they were in high school, she met Tsukiko a few times. She thought she was like a doll.

"Yeah, that Tsukiko, she has boyfriend now."

"Huh? No way! Tsukiko-chan of all people?"

 Shiori almost dropped her lemonade.

It's a mix of surprise at the fact that Tsukiko, who seemed somewhat otherworldly and not really interested in romance, is involved in it now, and surprise at the fact that there's a guy who matches her taste.

"Wow, Tsukiko-chan has a boyfriend. I feel kind of close to her now."

Shiori feels happy to think that even such a beauty like her has a normal love life.

But Ayaka doesn't seem to feel the same way.

"Sure, it's fine. I was surprised too when I found out that she liked someone. But that itself is a very wonderful thing."

"Then why do you look so scary...?"

"Well, you know, if you have to listen to her happy stories every day, you would look like this too."

 "Oh, I see."

Shiori would like to see how Tsukiko talks happily about her boyfriend, but it seems it would get annoying if it's every day.

"So you want to be happy too."

"That's part of it. But when I think about it, it's not fair that Tsukiko has a boyfriend and I don't, right? It hurts my pride as an older sister."

"About that, I don't think you had much pride to begin with."

"I've always thought that, but you're not very nice to Tsukiko, are you? Anyway, I'm going to catch a high-spec handsome boyfriend here and make my life better!"

Ayaka clenched her fist tightly. The motives may be somewhat impure, but Shiori had learned during her university life that love was just like that. And just like Shiori, who had been single for three years, Ayaka also wanted a high-spec handsome man.

"Well then, let's do our best!"

"Yes, today we bid farewell to being alone!"

Shiori and Ayaka said, raising their lemonades and toasting.
