Volume 12 Chapter 11 Reunion With Nina And The Future
"I'm home, Nina."
I said as I entered the 'Blue Crystal' building and made my way to the reception desk.
There were no other customers around, so I smiled at Nina across the counter.
"Rain-san!"
Nina's face lit up with joy.
"Are you doing okay?"
I asked.
"Yes, I am!"
Wait a minute, was Nina crying a little?
"But I felt lonely..."
"Huh?"
"I've been thinking every day, wishing for Rain-san to come back soon..."
As she spoke, Nina's voice trembled with tears.
She must have been really lonely...
"I'm sorry. I ended up staying in the other country longer than I thought..."
"Oh no, I've heard most of the story. You defeated the Light Dragon King and performed like a true hero, right? That's amazing, really..."
Nina smiled at me, almost in tears of laughter.
"We take pride in our guild."
"Oh, no, haha."
I replied, feeling embarrassed by her straightforwardness.
"Oh, right. This is a souvenir."
I said, handing her the pendant I bought in the capital of Uralis.
"What? For me!?"
"Yeah. I hope you like it."
"Wow, it's cute! I'm so happy."
Ahe said, her face beaming as she opened the package.
"Thank you, Rain-san!"
"Haha, sorry it's just a small gift."
"I'm really happy. I'll treasure it――"
Nina was still teary-eyed.
She's quite emotional, that Nina.
"Hehe, it's been a while since we had a conversation like this."
Nina said sheepishly.
"Yeah, it has."
I nodded to myself.
"And having a meal with Nina makes me feel at ease. It's been intense lately, with the battle against the Light Dragon King..."
"I heard it was tough. I'm glad you all returned safely. Rain-san and everyone else..."
"Yeah, it's really a relief that everyone is safe."
I replied, smiling at Nina.
"By the way, I heard that Rain-san is being recommended as an S-Class adventurer."
"Huh?"
It was news to me.
"Hehe, when it comes to being quick with information, I have a bit of confidence."
Nina smiled.
"It's amazing that an S-Class adventurer will come from our guild. I'm really proud of it."
Nina's eyes narrowed with joy.
"Nina has been working hard in this guild all this time, right?"
"I joined as an apprentice when I was twelve, so it's been about five years since then."
And, Nina said again.
"Elsie-san was the vice Guild Master at the time, but she worked hard under her. Even after Elsie-san became the Guild Master, I wanted to do my best to support her. 'Blue Crystal' is still a small and weak guild, but I... I love this guild."
My eyes sparkle with excitement.
"I love Elsie-san, Mary, and all the adventurers who gather here. Of course, I love Rain-san too...!"
"I also love this guild."
I smile at Nina.
"That's why I want 'Blue Crystal' to become a first-class guild."
"First class guild..."
I'm thinking, maybe even surpassing 'Fang of the Beast King'.
But as I think that, I realize something.
Without me even noticing... Thinking about 'Fang of the Beast King' doesn't make me feel uneasy anymore.
Of course, I still feel some anger and sadness from being banished.
I'm only human, so those negative feelings are still there.
They might stick around for a while.
But, despite that―― I really like the current guild so much.
Spending time with Nina and the others is fun and makes me happy.
That's why I can keep going. That's why I want to work even harder.
