Volume 16 Chapter 13 Lecture On The 'Relic Holder'
"Our world... or the countless worlds that exist, all have been created by a being known as 'heaven'."
Goldred started his explanation.
He looks quite content.
He must be the type who really enjoys teaching others.
Sometimes you meet people like that.
"Heaven...?"
"The 'heaven' that became the source of everything, creating worlds, gods, and even demons――when that 'heaven' created our world, a part of its power remained in the center of the stars. It could be said that it is the surplus of the power 'heaven' spent on the 'creation of the world'. That is the 'Relic Holder'."
"So the 'Relic Holder' is like a part of the power of that 'heaven' being?"
"You got it right."
Goldred nodded solemnly.
"At the center of the stars――the 'Heart of the Stars'――swirls the remnants of the power of the heavens. It forms as a 'Relic Holder' and resides with individuals who are compatible with that power. My [Change] and your [Enhancement Bestowal]... or even the [Movement] and [Destruction] abilities of others, all fall into the same category."
Goldred's eyes sparkled more and more as he spoke.
Yeah, he seems like the type who enjoys explaining things.
"It's different from 'skills,' which are the crystallization of human mental power and techniques. It's also different from 'magic,' which converts and reproduces the power of magic through human minds. A 'Relic Holder' can be described as a skill activated by the power of the heavens."
"The power of the 'Heaven'..."
Honestly, even though he said that, it doesn't quite make sense to me.
I've been using [Enhancement Bestowal] thinking it was magic all this time.
But, was that just my misunderstanding――does this power belong to a different system of abilities than magic?
"For convenience, the power of the 'Star' is sometimes referred to as 'magic' or 'skills'――but in reality, it's considered a completely different type of power. I think it would be better to define these things more precisely..."
Goldred muttered to himself.
Oh, his eyes are sparkling again.
He must really like academic stuff, I guess...
"Only those who can manipulate the power of the 'Heaven' are able to hear the voice of the 'Star,' the source of this power, and communicate with it. Haven't you heard the 'voice' when using your abilities?"
"The voice...?"
I tilted my head for a moment.
"Yeah, I do remember hearing announcements sometimes..."
I used to think it was just part of the effect of enchantment magic and didn't pay much attention to it...
Is that what they mean by the 'voice of the Star' in this world?
"Your 'Relic Holder' has always resided within you. It must have awakened for some reason and grown into the [Enhancement Bestowal] you have now."
"Awakening, growth..."
"The trigger for that is often the expression of strong emotions."
Goldred said.
"For example, I was...just a court alchemist in the past. I had mediocre results, but I was working diligently. However, one day...I was caught up in a power struggle among the ministers and wrongly accused, leading to my expulsion from the court."
"Expulsion――"
It seemed like this person had also been expelled from where they belonged, just like me.
"I was innocent, and I pleaded desperately for it. But no one believed me. Those I trusted as allies were the first to abandon me. My direct superior was a man who only thought about saving himself, and he easily discarded me. I lost everything and left the royal capital in despair."
Goldred spoke with a distant look in his eyes.
"Inside of me was a grudge and hatred towards the people in the court. When that feeling reached its peak, my power awakened.
"Huh...?"
"The alchemy I was using was not actually alchemy. It was just a manifestation of a part of my 'Relic Holder'――the [Change]――that had effects similar to alchemy."
Goldred's voice was filled with passion.
"I awakened to my true power, trembling with joy. And then, I returned to the country that had exiled me――"
"...What did you do when you returned to that country?"
Feeling a sense of unease, I asked.
Goldred stared at me intently.
"Stones, salt, or mud... probably."
"What?"
For a moment, I didn't understand the meaning and just stared back at Goldred.
"...!"
I felt a chill.
The expression of joy on Goldred's face in that moment was incredibly wicked.
"I changed all the people who oppressed me. The colleagues and bosses who didn't believe in me turned into stones. The boss who betrayed me turned into salt. The people from the court who drove me out all turned into muddy water."
"C-Can you really do that?"
"I can."
Goldred said haughtily to me, who was trembling.
"It's safe to say I have transcended the norm (cheat), being a 'Relic Holder.' Your power is similar, isn't it? If you set your mind to it, you should be able to overturn a whole country."
