Chapter 7 Heading to the Capital for the Mom's Treatment

Chapter 7 Heading To The Capital For The Mom'S Treatment

I, Leaf Chemist, worked as a Pharmacist (healer) in the remote regions.

But after my fiancée betrayed me, I decided to leave the village.

On the way, I heard that someone important to Priscilla, the daughter of Duke, had fallen ill.

Feeling sorry for her, I decided to come to her family's mansion in the capital city to treat the sick person.

 "Wow, this is amazing..."

After a few days of riding in a carriage, I arrived at the capital city.

I was overwhelmed by the sight of the city for the first time.

First, I was surprised to see buildings packed tightly next to each other.

In my village, neighbors were usually a leisurely walk of several tens of minutes away.

Next, I was amazed by the large number of people.

Seeing so many people filling the streets was something I couldn't imagine in the countryside. I wondered how they managed not to bump into each other. Moreover, there were people of various races bustling about.

 "Wow, a city, huh..."

"Um, Leaf-san. I want to explain a little about what's going to happen next."

Priscilla, sitting across from me, spoke with a troubled expression.

Yeah, it wasn't the time to be in a touristy mood.

"From now on, Leaf-san, you'll come with me to the Duke Graham mansion."

"Got it. So, who needs to be cured?"

 "My... my mother."

"Your mother, got it. What's her illness?"

After a moment of silence, Priscilla revealed the name of the illness.

 "It's [Imanshi Disease]..."

 "Imanshi Disease... Oh, that one."

 "Do you know about it?"

"Yeah. It's a disease of the heart and lungs, right? Gradually weakens the organs' functions, and if not treated, leads to death."

"Amazing... It's such a rare disease, and hardly any doctors know about it..."

"I've learned some medical knowledge from my master."

Master Asclepius is a healing expert.

He taught me how to heal all kinds of injuries and illnesses.

"I can't believe it was the Imanshi disease. I worried for nothing."

"Wh-what are you saying, Leaf! The court doctor said it was a difficult disease with an unknown treatment!"

"Huh? What are you talking about, Lilith? The Imanshi disease has no known treatment? Who's this quack doctor?"

I thought it was some serious illness I hadn't learned about from Master Asclepius...

Turns out it was just unnecessary worry. Phew.

"I can't believe it all of a sudden..."

 "Lilith, I trust him."

 "Milady..."

Priscilla straightens herself and bows deeply to me.

"Please, heal my mother. Please... I beg of you!"

 Priscilla seems to trust me.

Just like Lilith said, it's risky to entrust an important person like her mother to a stranger like me.

Well, yeah. I'm just a country bumpkin who showed up a few days ago.

But still, she said she believes in my skills.

...It's a big responsibility. But I'll do the job properly.

If I mess up, I'll betray Priscilla's trust.

And above all, I'd tarnish the name of my master who taught me skills and knowledge for free.

 "Leave it to me."

I thought, let's do our best.

* * *

The carriage we're riding in stopped in front of a huge mansion near the center of the capital city.

Is this Priscilla's house, the Duke Graham's Mansion?

It's a big, fancy mansion, almost like a museum.

But I don't have much time to look around.

Treatment for Imanshi Disease requires speed.

I'm not sure when she contracted it, but when a nobleman's daughter knowingly risks coming all the way to Abyss Wood, I can tell the situation is urgent.

I get off the carriage and enter the mansion.

Then, I make my way to her mother's bedroom.

 "Mother...!"

 "Pr...iscilla..."

On the bed lies a stunning woman, her face pale blue.

Sweat beads on her forehead, and her breathing is shallow... not good.

 "Oh, Priscilla! You're back!!!"

 "Father!"

A man around 40 rushes to his daughter, hugging her tightly.

 "I'm just glad you're safe."

 "Father... How is Mother doing?"

"...As you can see, not well. According to the court doctor, today's the peak..."

 "Oh no..."

 I think so too.

"Priscilla, if you're back safely, does that mean the boy over there is Asclepius-sama...?"

"No, he's his disciple. A very skilled Pharmacist."

"A Pharmacist...? Not a healer or a doctor?"

A healer uses healing magic to cure people.

Doctors use medical and pharmaceutical skills to treat people.

A Pharmacist, on the other hand, uses prescriptions to manage health conditions.

They're not exactly the people you think of when you think of curing illnesses.

That's why Priscilla's father looks at me suspiciously.

"Father, trust him. He's really amazing."

"...Alright. If you say so, I'll believe you."

Priscilla's father walked up to me and said,

"I'm Cipher Fahn Graham. Please, boy, help my wife... Dianne."

Priscilla's father... Cipher-san really bowed deeply to me, even though I'm just a regular kid.

Both Priscilla and her father are just too nice.

 "Leave it to me."

I nodded and went to Priscilla's mother, Dianne-san.

She seemed kind of out of it, like she didn't even notice me.

 "...? Wait, could this be...?"

I took out a syringe from the magic bag.

Plunged it into a vein, drew a tiny bit of blood.

hen I got out a magnifying glass and examined the blood I'd taken...

 "This is..."

 "What's wrong, boy?"

"...Your wife doesn't have Imanshi Disease."

"What!? Are you serious!? So, the court doctor misdiagnosed her!?"

"Yeah. If we kept treating her for Imanshi Disease, she would've died."

"No way... So then, what illness does my wife have!?"

 I'm addressing the Graham family.

 "I have [MG Press Syndrome]."

 "MG Press... Syndrome?"

"Yes. It's a sickness caused by a curse that forcibly depletes the magic inside her body."

Though similar, Imanshi Disease doesn't show symptoms of faint consciousness.

When I checked the blood, I found absolutely no magic in it.

So, I diagnosed it as MG Press Syndrome.

"So, does that mean my wife will get better?"

"Don't worry. She'll recover. It's just a bit trickier to cure than the other."

Now, I have a staff given by Granny Merlin and learned techniques from the master.

From my magic bag, I take out the Divine Healer Staff.

Additionally, I retrieve the Tenmoku Medicine Pot.

 "[Prescription]"

Inside the Tenmoku Medicine Pot, I use my skills to make prescriptions, which means I make medicine from various herbs stored inside.

Normally, this is a really time-consuming task.

But this medicine pot has a special magic that speeds up the process.

"The medicine is ready. Next, I'll start administering it."

I load the medicine from the pot into the gem at the tip of the Divine Healer Staff.

Then, I point the staff towards Dianne-san.

 "[Administer]"

There are different ways to administer medicine: orally, through the skin, intravenously, and so on.

If you don't put it into the body in the right way, it won't work properly.

But this Divine Healer Staff can administer medicine into someone's body in the best way possible.

As the medicine in the gem decreases, Dianne's body starts to glow...

 And then...

 "Oof, ugh... Where am I?"

 "Mother!"

 "Dianne!"

Dianne-san woke up to the two embracing her.

She seemed puzzled by their crying, just like children.

"My body feels... so much better. What's happening?"

"Dianne! This boy here, he healed you!"

 "...Well, if you say so."

I nodded, and Dianne-san stood up.

She then took my hand and bowed deeply again.

"...Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You're a lifesaver."

 "Thank you!"

They, as a family, shed tears of gratitude towards me.

Even Granny, just like this, had shown her appreciation.

But... it was good. I could properly practice what Master taught me.

 I could save a life.

"Thank you, boy! I can't thank you enough! Please let me repay you..."

"No, Cipher-san. That can wait. There's something urgent I need to investigate."

"Urgent... investigate? What do you mean?"

I look into his eyes and say,

"The culprit who poisoned your wife."

"What!? P-poison!? That's ridiculous, why on earth!?"

His reaction... he still doesn't realize it, huh?

 I explain,

"I mentioned the cause of MG Press Syndrome is a curse poison, right? Yes, this disease doesn't occur naturally. It only happens when a malicious third party administers poison."

"Unbelievable! So... the person who poisoned My wife..."

"Yes. So... will you let me handle it?"

 "What? What do you mean...?"

My job is to treat Dianne-san. I've already finished that.

But if we don't find the culprit, the same thing will happen again.

 Because...

"I will catch the culprit who is in this mansion."

The culprit is inside this mansion.
