Volume 1 Chapter 14 Each Weapon - Ice
Me, Ice, and Clay came to the weapons store for trainees together. The female shopkeeper welcomed us with excitement.
"Welcome! Oh, if it isn't the up-and-coming Wade party. I'll give you a discount."
"Haha, thank you."
"Wow, what good manners! I wouldn't have guessed you were from the slums."
"I've been trained by the instructor."
I casually chatted with the weapons store and searched through my bag. Then, I took out a poison knife collected from goblins.
"Can you appraise this first? Let's include the selling price in our shopping."
"Sure thing! Oh, this is rare. A poison goblin knife."
Great, I'll buy it with a little extra. After thanking her, we faced each other.
"Well then, let's each pick out a weapon and meet back here."
"Yeah."
"Sounds good, I'll go now."
Clay is the one who's slowly disappearing at his own pace. Lately, it seems like Drop withdrew from school for some reason, and the party is falling apart. So, I asked if he wanted to join us as well.
I couldn't help but think it was a shame that Drop left, even though she had made it to the top ranks. But I guess it couldn't be helped. Maybe she had her reasons, especially with the Manticore incident. Nothing is more important than life, after all.
And so, the three of us gathered under the guise of a temporary party. Today, our goal is to prepare weapons for ourselves, not just the ones provided to us.
"Oh, Wade-kun... Um, I'd be happy if you could help me choose my weapon together..."
"Sure, that's fine. I'm not sure if I have a good eye for weapons, though."
"T-thank you! I'm really happy..."
Seeing Ice's gentle smile, I couldn't help but think she's really charming. With that kind of personality, she could get along anywhere.
"So, let's choose Ice's weapon first. Mine's pretty much decided already."
"...Really?"
"Yeah. There's not much to hesitate about."
Nodding, I headed towards the rapier area, thinking about a weapon that would suit Ice. A rapier. It's a long, slender sword known for its piercing attacks.
Considering not just Ice but also the strength of women in general, heavy weapons wouldn't be suitable. Although there are women who can handle heavy weapons, Ice is relatively weak. So, a lighter weapon would be better.
That leaves the rapier as the first choice. Daggers could work too, but in Ice's case, reach is important.
"Ice needs a weapon that can transmit magic, right?"
"Um... yeah. See, if I use Ice Blow on the sword and then attack with it, it should have a similar effect as using Ice Blow directly, I think..."
Ice says, fidgeting. But it's quite a thoughtful idea. With a metal weapon, she could quickly store up cold and then transfer it to the enemy.
"That's a well-thought-out idea, I think."
"...Yeah! Hehe, thanks, Wade-kun."
Ice seems embarrassed. I smile and shrug my shoulders, looking at the rapiers lined up.
The rapiers for adventurers aren't generally of high quality. They end up being used due to unavoidable circumstances, even though they're originally the type of sword nobles would use.
So, compared to something like one made of mithril, the magic conductivity is low, and above all, they're fragile. Thinking that way, I believe it's appropriate to assume they'll break.
With that in mind, I chose the two cheapest rapiers.
"The rapier is a fragile weapon. The sturdy and high-quality ones for nobles are out of our price range. So it's better to buy one with the idea of replacing it when it breaks, including a spare for when it happens, I think."
"I see... Indeed, yeah, I guess so. It's not just about the power of the sword itself, so let's go with that, I guess."
"For now, my suggestion is something like this. These two have the same specifications and are both cheap. I think they're just right for the idea of getting a replacement."
"Yeah... Thank you, Wade-kun...!"
Ice expresses her gratitude with a small voice. I casually reply, "It's no big deal," and then look around, saying, "You also needd a weapon for your left hand."
"A left-hand weapon?"
"Like a parrying dagger, something like that. When using a rapier and holding a shield, it ruins the agility, even though it's a rapier. I think even a small shield would be fine..."
As I ponder this, Ice brings something over and says, "What about this...?"
It looked like a small mace. A mace is a weapon that is both blunt and a staff.
The staff can enhance magic. In the case of Ice, holding it and using magic should increase its chilling power.
It's not just for that though; the iron-made and moderately heavy form would also be useful as a blunt weapon.
"It's a bit heavy, so it's not a shield, but it could be used for defense... If it's this size, it won't get in your way, and magic could be enhanced too..."
"That's good. It's quite ideal."
I was impressed by the pretty sensible choice. With this feeling, maybe I should ask Ice to choose my weapon too...?
"Ah, hehe. I'm happy. Then, I'll go with two rapiers and this small mace."
Ice is all smiles. I feel happy too. For now, Ice should be fine.
"Ice, can you help me choose my weapon next?"
"...! Sure! I'd love to help pick one out with you!"
Feeling reassured by Ice's enthusiasm, we headed towards the heavy weapons area.
