Volume 2 Chapter 1 The Beginning of the Adventurer

Volume 2 Chapter 1 The Beginning Of The Adventurer

After completing our exchange and securing a place to stay, our next course of action was to sleep like logs.

We had just finished a fierce battle, after all, and we had dashed around city making various preparations. It was all part of the graduation exam, you see. In other words, it was also a test of our abilities as adventurers.

Ice had proposed something akin to marriage, which made me wonder if I would be able to sleep at all. However, it seemed that exhaustion had won over, and I fell into a deep slumber. In my dream, I found myself fighting against an incredibly powerful Ice for some reason.

The next day, I woke up feeling refreshed, and I couldn't help but want to see Ice. After stretching myself with a yawn, I casually knocked three times on the door of the room where Ice was supposed to be staying.

In response, there was a slight delay before I heard three small knocks in return. Just that alone made me happy.

"...Oh no. Maybe I actually like Ice more than I thought."

I couldn't help but grin. But, even though it seemed like a proposal, the truth is, I'm not really sure if it was a proposal or not.

In the first place, I'm not really dating Ice or promising a future with her. I've just been told that she wants to make me happy.

Come to think of it, Ice has always shown a lot of respect for my wishes. I used to feel a sense of security when I was with her...

But then, I started to have some negative thoughts.

"Could it be that she's starting to seem like a mother figure? Ice..."

Oh wait, that changes things quite a bit, doesn't it?

 "..."

I cross my arms and think. I've never experienced love in my past life. I've had such a dull youth that I didn't even have a first love. So, I can't distinguish between whether my relationship with Ice is love or just a sense of protection.

And so, I come to a conclusion.

"I don't know, but I'm hungry, so let's go eat breakfast."

If there's a problem, Ice will say so. She may seem timid, but she's pretty gutsy, and she should point out if I've done something wrong.

Above all, taking action too hastily could be risky.

 "Breakfast, breakfast."

I knocked on Ice and Clay's room doors as I walked down the second-floor hallway and then headed downstairs.

So, as adventurers, we headed to the guild for the first time as a party.

 "I-I'm getting a little nervous..."

 Clay agreed with Ice's words.

"Yeah, me too. Actually, this is my first time visiting the guild, so I'm pretty jittery."

When Clay mentioned that I went to the guild yesterday, I nodded.

"It's for exchanging the fangs of the Chimera. They said they couldn't do it at the playground' exchange office, so they told me to come back tomorrow after giving me some upfront payment."

 "Oh, really? That sounds exciting!"

Clay looked excited as he asked about the amount of money. I thought I would be given a gold coin right away since I had heard about it, but it seems that's not the case.

...Well, it seems to be an amount that can let you live carefree for a year. If I think of it as a huge pawnshop-like entity, it wouldn't be that easy.

We walked along the road while talking about such things. Even though we had been trainees at the training school, coming to the main street of the city like this overwhelmed us with its liveliness.

"However, it's crowded. Truly fitting for a dungeon city. It must be economically prosperous here."

Clay's words carried a noble air about them. His gaze felt like that of a politician.

We made our way through the crowds and walked down the main street. Then, standing prominently in the middle of the avenue, we gulped as we faced the guild.

 "Alright, let's go in."

 ""Understood.""

Without any real reason, the three of us entered the guild, carried away by the atmosphere of the dungeon. It's strange... I wasn't this nervous yesterday.

When we actually entered, nothing in particular happened. Some adventurers glanced at us and then returned to their own conversations, and there was no glaring or anything like that.

 """..."""

However, we maintained a strange sense of tension as we headed towards the guild's exchange office. It was now empty, and we could easily approach the receptionist.

"Um, I requested a purchase yesterday."

"Yes. Please show me your magic seal and adventurer's badge."

I handed over my adventurer's badge hanging around my neck and the magic seal on my right hand. After staring at both for a moment, the receptionist exclaimed, "Ah, the Chimera from yesterday!"

In response to that, the surrounding adventurers turned their eyes towards us. Hey, what? Don't stare over here.

"Wait, did they say Chimera now...?" "It must be a misunderstanding. There's no way those guys who look like they just graduated yesterday could defeat a Chimera." "And isn't that party the ones who were lovey-dovey around in the corner yesterday?"

Huh, they remember yesterday's exchange? Forget about it, it's embarrassing.

I said, feeling a bit embarrassed, "Please."

"Yes. Then, taking out the upfront payment from yesterday, here's one half gold coin and thirty silver coins. Here you go."

 "Thank you."

I accepted it. The bag of gold coins was heavy. As I struggled with it, the receptionist lady continued,

"Also, if you'd like, you can deposit it at the guild bank. Would you like to do that?"

"Oh, okay, then please. Let's see... let's have three accounts made for the three of us, and split it evenly there."

"Huh!? N-No, Wade-kun! Wade-kun defeated almost everyone alone!"

As Ice started to protest again, I saw Clay frown this time.

"Yeah, she's right. We can't accept it this time. It's a large amount. We can't just take it for such a cheap reason like you came with us."

"Huh...? Aren't you guys strict about money?"

"I'm the daughter of a merchant, after all."

"You may not realize it, but I am actually a noble."

"Sure, sure, sorry for being born in the slums."

I give up and say to the receptionist,

"So, half of it goes into my account, and the other half should be split in half again and put into two other accounts, please."

 "Huh? N-No, that's not..."

 "Wade-kun, that's too much."

"No way! Just take it! If you feel bad about it, then buy some good weapons with the money and contribute. I won't take a single coin more than this."

The two give in to my strong attitude. The receptionist lady who had been watching the situation then asks, "Is this all correct?"

 "Yes, please."

"Alright, everyone, please show me your magic seal and adventurer's badge. I will use them as your account seals, so please don't lose them."

 "Y-Yes..." "Thank you very much."

After finishing the procedures, we left the exchange office. We had yesterday's upfront payment with us. We could use it as our party's shared funds.

As we were about to leave the exchange office, we were surrounded by rough-looking adventurers.

"Hey hey, you little brats. You reek of money. How about sharing some with us senior adventurers?"

They said, laughing rudely in a group. I furrowed my brows at their words.
