Chapter 91 Mysterious Village
We arrived at a village rumored to have been "mysterious disappearance" on a request from the Guild Master.
But before that, we stumbled upon a bloody scene. Following the traces, we finally reached the village we were heading to.
"This is our destination, Shibatashi (After a While) village."
It was a very ordinary village. One-story houses lined up, surrounded by wooden fences.
And at the entrance of the village...
"Hmm? Who might you be?"
A young man who seemed to be a villager stood as a gatekeeper.
This puzzled both Aerial-san and Tai-chan.
"...My lord. According to the reports, weren't all the villagers supposed to have been disappear mysteriously?"
Tai-chan whispered to me in a voice loud enough to be heard.
As she said, there shouldn't be anyone here in the first place.
While Aerial-san remained cautious, he still approached the villagers, perhaps to gather information.
"Excuse me. We are adventurers."
He took out his guild card from his pocket and showed it to the villagers.
The young man in the village widened his eyes and started to say something like, "Oh... oh...!"
It seemed like Aerial-san was about to say something or approach him.
But when he stopped abruptly, the villagers' attitude changed.
"Do adventurers have any business in this desolate village?"
"......"
Aerial-san looked at me. Perhaps he was seeking my opinion.
These villagers seemed ordinary, but I could tell.
...They were afraid of something. I could sense the strong mental stress they were under, emitting a scent when feeling such fear.
I nodded slightly and showed my agreement. Aerial-san responded with his eyes and started talking to the villagers again.
"To be honest, we came to this forest for monster hunting. Could we stay overnight here?"
If we were to be too honest and say we were investigating disappearances, they would become wary. So, Aerial-san lied.
The villager thought for a moment, then he said, "I'll go check with the village head," and went into the village.
I told Aerial-san that the villager earlier seemed to be afraid of something.
"What could they be scared of?"
"And what about Tai-chan?"
Pop! Tai-chan twitched her ears.
"I don't sense any beasts or monsters around."
"So, they must have been afraid of something else."
A village rumored to have been disappear mysteriously. Ordinary villagers met there. Nearby, there were large amounts of bloodstains.
It would be strange if there was nothing here.
"Let's observe the situation for now."
"I agree with that."
Then the villager from earlier returned, and we were allowed to stay in the village.
