Chapter 97 Following The Trail
I, Leaf, have come to the village for an investigation.
There, I encountered a monster like Gel, who had taken the form of a villager.
All the faceless monsters in the village were exterminated, but...
"I didn't feel much intelligence from any of them. There's probably a boss controlling them."
Tai-chan and I start our investigation outside the village.
Tai-chan asks with a puzzled look,
"But where could the boss be?"
"They're probably giving orders from a safe zone. Just in case they get exposed."
"Well, that makes sense. But where could they be? The enemies are monsters without scent or presence. My ears and my lord's nose won't be of much help in tracking them."
So, I take out the Powder of Magic.
"What's that?"
"It's a powder that visualizes magic power."
"Visualizes magic power...?"
Normally, people can't see the magic power inside the body.
However, by using this powder, they can see the magic power floating in the air with their own eyes.
I fill the Divine Healer Staff with the powder and scatter it around me.
And then...
"Are these ribbon-like things in the air... magic power?"
"Yeah."
"But... there isn't a established way to visualize magic power, right?"
"Oh, really?"
"Oh, really... sigh... seriously, my lord always does amazing things without even realizing it."
That doesn't matter.
What's important to me is to locate the enemy's hideout.
"Look. The ribbons in the air are stretching in the same direction."
"I see... the boss and the small fry the boss defeated earlier are connected through a magic power path."
In other words, the boss was supplying magic power and controlling those monsters from earlier.
"They should be ahead! Let's go, Tai-chan!"
"But... What about Aerial-dono?"
Then...
"I'm coming too."
"Aerial-san!"
Aerial-san, an S-rank adventurer who joined us, approached us.
Despite looking troubled, Aerial-san seemed determined to go.
Truly, this person is strong and has a strong sense of responsibility. He's a good person!
"Let's all go together! To the enemy's hideout!"
