Volume 6 Chapter 1 Daily Life - Early Morning

It's been a few days since Nightfather fell.

"Papa! Papapapapapa, papa! Morning! Mornin' mornin' mornin' mornin', morning!"

I place my hand on my daughter's head, who's acting as my alarm clock, to turn off the alarm function. Then I sit up and ask her.

"Yawn... Good morning, Moruru. What time is it? I always wake up at 5, so I'm never this sleepy."

 "3 o'clock!"

 "Goodnight."

 "Wake up! Papapapapapa!"

"Can you stop calling me papa and use a sound effect or something instead?"

And 3 in the morning isn't morning, it's still night. I remind her as I pat Moruru's fluffy head, but she pouts.

"After all, you never used to wake me up this early. Why today?"

 "It's not sudden."

Moruru turns away with a huff. I sigh and then pick her up onto my lap.

"What's wrong? I always play with you, don't I? Are you still lonely?"

"I'm not lonely. But, I want to play more..."

 "That's what being lonely means."

I say, and Moruru, who was looking down, looks up at me with wide eyes. Her reaction is funny.

Anyway, she just wants to be noticed. This is what a parent-child relationship is about. I think my damn old man is not an ideal example.

I hope he eats stinky food in jail. And I won't become like that.

 "Okay."

When I say that, Moruru's face lights up. I smile and say.

"It's a bit early, but let's get up. It seems like there's nothing to do for a few days, so let's play a lot."

 "Yay! I love papa!"

 "Papa loves Moruru too!"

Moruru hugs me tightly, and she's so cute that I can't help but embrace her with all my heart. She's my truly adorable daughter.

So, we got ready and left the house at what felt like the middle of the night.

 "Wow, it's so dark!"

 "It sure is."

Moruru is really excited. I follow behind her with a yawn.

"So, where are we going? This time of night is getting too dark and dangerous, so let's not go, okay?"

"Hmm, then let's go to the city! I want to go to the city!"

I'm thinking. Moruru has grown up a lot, and it's almost like she's at the same level as Silver-rank in terms of strength.

So, if she gets into a fight with those delinquents, she can take them head-on.

"That's good. Shall we go to the city together?"

 "Yay! "

As I'm watching Moruru, who's jumping around with a carefree spirit, I think that children grow up too quickly.

She's already grown a bit taller and her way of speaking has become clearer. She still acts impulsively at times, but that's just part of being a child.

 And I'm thinking...

"...How many months has she been born...?"

It can't be just one year. Moruru's growth is happening too quickly.

As I'm thinking about that, I walk along the road at my own pace. The city of Karditsa, known for its rich resources and dungeons, is a city that never sleeps.

However, at 3 am, even the main street has some stores open.

"Woo, can't we just get some sleep already...?"

And right in front of me are 3 drunkards,

 "Papa. Someone's hurt."

"Moru, that's not an injury, he's just drunk."

 "Drunk...? Ah, everyone's acting stupid!"

"Sorry, Moruru, for acting disgracefully at the drinking party."

As a parent, I'm embarrassed, but alcohol makes it fun.

As we're talking, a drunkard suddenly approaches us, saying...

"Ahh! What are you kids doing out so late? It's not safe!"

"Hey, you, don't you dare call us kids! You're the one who's drunk!"

I'll keep an eye on this guy who's about to puke. If he's going to get drunk and belligerent, I'll make sure to keep my cool.

 "No, no... I didn't say anything. Really, I didn't."

Since I'm not going to fight with a drunkard, I'll just try to calm him down. The drunkard, however, responded with a rowdy reaction.

"Ahh...? You didn't say anything...? "

 "I don't.... I'm sleepy..."

"Damn it... What should I do to survive? I can play around as long as I have money, but once it's all gone, oh no..."

It seems like he has forgotten what he's doing, and it's turning into a wild party. That's what they call a "yake-zake" (a drinking binge).

"It's all Wade and Frain's fault, dammit. Those kids are the ones who make Nightfather..."

"Are we just going to steal food like always? Anyway, I'll kill those kids one day."

Oh, it seems like Nightfather's remnants are here.

 "Papa, what did you do?"

Moruru looks up at me and says that. The drunkards also look at me with a questioning gaze, saying "huh?". Have we been caught? I guess Moruru takes priority.

"That Nightfather is a bad organization, so Papa crushed it."

"Oh wow! Papa, the hero of justice!"

"Not really, it's just about defeating the enemy in front of us."

I've never killed anyone, but I've thought about not killing if it means getting stronger and having fun in the next battle.

Actually, I think I've gotten something out of it. I think some good things have happened because I don't kill people like Frain and Sandra just because they're my enemies. Frain is a good rival, and Sandra is my lover.

...Lover. I won't increase the number, and it's time to move on to the next stage.

As I'm thinking that, I notice that the drunkards are staring at me with pale faces. Then, one of them points at me and says:

 "Uh, uh, uh, uh, uh...?"

"What? Oh, you want to complain? I'll listen."

I respond with a smile, and the drunkards all bow their heads.

"No, no! Sorry! It's nothing! Please don't kill us!"

"Yes, really! This is the way it is! Please take all my money and spare me!"

 No, I don't want that.

"I won't kill you, and just take your wallet. Be careful and go home."

"No, really. I won't do anything bad, so please spare me..."

"I said I'll let it slide. I don't care if you do bad things. But if you become an enemy, I'll crush you, that's all."

"Y-yes! Hey, you guys, pull yourselves together! Um, um, please don't pick a fight, okay?"

 "Yeah, see ya."

The thugs, who had returned to their senses, bowed their heads to me and hastily left. As I watched their backs, Moruru said something.

"Papa... Are you the boss of justice...?"

 "I don't think there's a boss of justice."

I don't even feel like being a hero. I'm just on the side of my family and only an enemy's enemy. I think that's simple and just right.
