Chapter 8 The Blessing of the Fairy and Education

Chapter 8 The Blessing Of The Fairy And Education

The next morning, after finishing breakfast, it was announced that Rebecca, the governess, had arrived.

"Nice to meet you, Miss Rebecca. I'm Sara Grandchester. I look forward to getting along with you from now on."

Sara, while feeling nervous, tried to use polite language to greet her without being rude, imitating the etiquette she had seen before.

"Thank you for the polite greeting. I'm Rebecca Orson, the governess. I'm the one who should be grateful, so please take care of me from now on."

Rebecca, with her bright blonde hair tied up loosely, was a very beautiful woman. Her slightly husky, gentle voice, her calm and composed dress, and her kind smile all made her charming. And her etiquette was far more refined than Sara's.

"Is it true that Miss Rebecca was a childhood friend of Dad and Uncle Robert? You don't look like you're that old at all."

Arthur would be 27 years old this year, and Robert was 30. But Rebecca looked like she was still in her late teens.

"Well, Ms. Sara is quite perceptive. As it happens, I'm the same age as Arthur."

 "What?! That's a lie, right?"

It was clear that Rebecca was an extraordinary beauty, considering that the royal aunt was one year older than Robert.

"Hehe, thank you. But I have a little secret."

 "What's that?"

 "I have a fairy friend."

"Wow, that's amazing! So, you're receiving the blessing of the fairy, right?"

"Ah, Ms. Sara knows about the blessing of the fairy, doesn't she?"

The blessing of the fairy refers to the magic that slows down the aging process of humans who have made a contract with them. Fairies rarely form contracts with humans they like and lend them their power, but since humans have shorter lifespans than fairies, the fairies cast a spell to make them live together for as long as possible.

It doesn't mean they become immortal. While they do age slowly, they will still eventually grow old, and the spell doesn't have any effect on preventing illnesses or injuries, so it's not a guarantee of a long life.

However, many people wish to maintain their youthful appearance, and the nobles who hire skilled adventurers to search for fairies are endless.

"Ah, I'd love to meet a fairy too!"

"Then, I'll introduce you to my friend later. But, Ms. Sara, asking someone's age on the first meeting is a breach of etiquette~."

It seems that the lesson on manners has already begun. Rebecca smiled like a young girl, starting to guide Sara.

 "I-I apologize..."

Sara hastily apologized. Come to think of it, in her past life, there were countries where age was a sensitive topic, and asking about it was considered rude.

'That's right, Japan was relatively sensitive about age, but in Europe and America, it's considered impolite to ask about age. Ah, but in some African countries, they might ask you directly. Cultural differences are really important to keep in mind, aren't they?'

When working for a trading company with frequent overseas business trips, understanding the local culture is crucial, and making a mistake could even be life-threatening. Sara learned this from her seniors when she first joined the company.

"It's okay. Let's take it slow and learn."

 "Yes, Miss Rebecca."

"Hehe. Actually, I'm also new to being a governess, so I might make mistakes, but I'll teach you everything I know. Let's work hard together, okay?"

"I'll do my best, thank you."

After finishing their greetings, the 2 of them decided to discuss their future plans while having tea in one of the gazebos in the garden, taking advantage of the good weather.

"Ms. Sara was raised in a town, but your language is very polite. With a bit of practice, you'll be fine as a marquis's daughter."

 "Really?"

"Yes, really. However, you need to learn how to choose your words and the unique phrases used by nobles."

"That means we need to study a wide range of knowledge, doesn't it?"

"Ms. Sara is really smart. It's hard to have a conversation without knowing about the other person's social status, family background, and home situation. Plus, if you don't have knowledge of history, literature, theater, and flower language, you won't know if the other person is praising you or making fun of you. In other words, you need to be cultured."

'Indeed, in my past life, whenever there was a party, I would check the attendees' information. There were even seniors who would research the hobbies of the business partners' families. It was also a hassle to deal with factional relationships.'

"That sounds really tough. Can I do it?"

"You might be able to get away with not knowing things as a child, but if you hurt someone due to your ignorance, you might not even realize it. If you keep making mistakes like that, it'll be tough to survive in aristocratic society."

Sara could understand that feeling. In her past life, at parties hosted by "so-called celebrities," she had often seen people exchange veiled insults. However, since she was just a company employee, she would simply observe from the side with a calm demeanor.

'Am I supposed to become one of them?! Ugh, that's super tough!!!'

"I'm getting more and more scared."

"That's why aristocratic families teach their children from a young age."

 Sara felt a little anxious.
