Chapter 89 The Forest Is Alive
As Sara and Rebecca arrived at the fire scene with their knight escorts, they found several woodcutters and militiamen already waiting, inspecting the surrounding area.
"Everyone, good work."
When Rebecca dismounted her horse and greeted them, all the men simultaneously took off their hats and bowed their heads.
"Orson Viscount's daughter. We've heard that with the power of the spirits, you can restore the hunting ground. Is that true?"
A middle-aged man, seemingly in charge of the woodcutters, approached them.
"Yes, it's true. It won't be exactly the same as before, but I think we can restore it to a state where it won't hinder the hunting tournament. Baron Walt also gave us a plan, telling us which parts to prioritize for restoration."
After last night's dinner, Marquis and Baron Walt had created a restoration plan for the hunting tournament and prepared a detailed diagram with instructions. Sara and Rebecca, who received the diagram this morning, were amazed to see that it included specific details on where to restore, what types of trees to plant, and how old they should be. Even the pruning instructions for the woodcutters were included.
'This was prepared in just one night? Baron Walt is incredible.'
"If it's according to Baron's instructions, there's no mistake. We've been inspecting this area since last night, and there are no smoldering trees. It seems to be completely extinguished."
"That's good. If there's still a fire, the forest spirits will be frightened."
Rebecca showed the diagram to the woodcutters, carefully confirming the instructed areas... or so it seemed. In reality, Sara and Pochi, standing behind her, were nodding in agreement with a "hmm-hmm" expression. Mike, looking bored, was playing with Sara's ponytail, but he seemed to be listening to the conversation.
"I think I understand. Sorry, but could we please have a little space? There are too many people, and it's hard for the spirits to work."
This statement from Rebecca was both a lie and the truth. Since spirits have individual personalities, some love to play pranks and get attention, while others are shy and hate to show themselves in front of people.
Rebecca and Sara stood at the center of the designated location, and the guards, woodcutters, and militiamen took positions at a distance.
Sara swiftly used wind magic to surround them, blocking out external sounds, and then used light magic to make Rebecca's surroundings sparkle unnecessarily. The fairies also found it amusing and started flying light orbs around them.
There were even mischievous fairies playing with Rebecca's hair, pulling out the pins that held it up. Before she knew it, Rebecca's luxurious blonde hair was blown by the wind, creating a fantastical atmosphere.
'Is this a theme park attraction using projection mapping?'
Even with this scenery before her, Sara's thoughts remained calm, which was important. Meanwhile, people watching from a distance were completely mesmerized by the unprecedented sight.
Having created this atmosphere, Sara used wood magic to rapidly regrow the trees and weeds that had barely survived. The scene was like a time-lapse video of growth records, but several times faster.
"Wow, the forest is still alive!"
The surrounding crowd erupted in cheers, but they were blocked by the soundproof barrier and didn't reach Sara and Rebecca's ears.
Although the revived plants were regrowing, many trees and flowers had been completely burned. So, Sara asked Pochi to convert the newly regrown weeds into saplings and plant them in designated areas according to the plan.
After planting all the saplings, Pochi sat down on Sara's left shoulder.
"I've finished planting the trees, but it's difficult to make them grow big with just wood magic."
"Why is that?"
"It's because they lack water and nutrients."
"Ah, I see."
So, Sara tried combining earth and wood magic to create nutrient-rich soil. However, Pochi pointed out that the soil wasn't ripe enough.
"Well, it's my turn now!"
This time, Mike landed on Sara's right shoulder, stretched, and did a flip in mid-air. Mike interfered with the time of the soil created by Sara, accelerating its maturation.
"Pochi, is this enough?"
"Yeah, it feels good~."
The 2 fairies were frolicking in front of Sara, transforming the forest land into a fertile one.
'Hey, I just remembered, weren't the trees around here red pines?'
Sara suddenly thought, and with a burst of wood-attribute magic, she made the red pines tree in front of her grow rapidly, and also gathered some mushrooms.
"It's weird how humans treat fungi differently, like pine mushrooms and wheat fungi, isn't it?" Sara thought, but then her mind was taken over by the idea, "Let's grill them and eat them right away!"
By the way, Sara would later ask Pochi to transform the pine mushrooms.
"Sara, are you still okay with your magic power?"
Pochi looked at Sara's face with concern.
"This much is fine. I mean, am I really using up my magic power?"
"Well, Sara... I don't want to say it, but if you use this much magic power, even upper-class nobles would usually collapse."
"Is that so?"
Sara was taken aback by Pochi's sharp remark, which Mike also agreed with.
"Sara's magic power is growing stronger and stronger, but with normal attribute magic, Sara doesn't even use up her own magic power. It's like a dragon, gathering magic particles from around her to cast magic, so if you don't use it occasionally, you might forget about your magic power."
"Sara might even breathe fire soon."
"Yeah, Sara might blow away the Aklar Mountains with a breath."
"Wait, I'm not going to do that!!"
Ignoring the rude remarks from the 2 spirits, Sara quickly grew the young trees with her wood-attribute magic, and the forest regeneration was complete.
By the way, since it took less than an hour, it's undeniable that she "finished it quickly" as planned.
