Chapter 97 The Cat on a Moonlit Night and Wine

Chapter 97 The Cat On A Moonlit Night And Wine

After compiling the report on this invasion and sending it to the king as a formal letter, Marquis returned to his own room from the office.

From the corridor window, he could see a beautiful, bluish full moon.

"It's like Sara's hair color," he thought to himself.

As he opened the door to his room, he found a small, tri-colored cat curled up and fast asleep on the sofa.

Next to it were an astonishing number of empty wine bottles.

"It seems the Noble Fairy really intended to drain my wine cellar."

 "I couldn't help but--"

The attendant stood nearby, looking troubled.

 "It's okay. Let it sleep."

As Marquis began to prepare for bed with a smile, the sound woke Mike's ears, and it opened its eyes. Mike stretched its body.

 "You're awake, Noble Fairy."

"Uh... I think I fell asleep. Welcome back... Marquis."

"It's Will, not Marquis. My title isn't my name, after all."

"Ah, okay. Then it's Will. The wine was delicious, thank you."

"I should be the one thanking you for delivering the message. It really helped me out."

 "I'm glad!"

Mike stood up its tail and slightly moved the tip. It seemed to be responding with its tail.

 "Well, I'll be off soon."

"I'm going to have a little drink, but would you like to join me for a bit? You did drink a lot today, didn't you?"

"Oh, this much is fine! If a charming gentleman like you invites me, I wouldn't want to refuse."

Although Mike had transformed back into a human girl, it still had cat ears and a tail due to being drunk or still half asleep.

'It's an incomplete form, but if my hands and face are human, it shouldn't be a problem for drinking."

 Marquis thought to himself.

From the wine selection shown by the attendant, Marquis chose a relatively light and young wine.

"This wine is something even commoners can afford, but I like to drink it before bed. I don't usually serve it to guests, though."

"Isn't it great? I think it's wonderful too."

"On a night like this, with a beautiful woman, drinking wine in my own room is an honor, don't you think?"

"Hehe, fairies don't have gender, you know."

"It's not a dream, let's just forget about it."

Marquis stopped the servant from pouring wine and did it himself, filling Mike's glass and his own. Then, he gave a subtle glance to dismiss the servant.

 "Noble Fairy."

"Will, you can call me Mike too, if you like."

"Is that so? It's an honor, then. So, Mike... um... does Sara hold a grudge against me, I wonder...?"

Marquis asked with a faint, timid tone. Mike only moved her ears slightly.

"I've been by Sara's side since she was born, you see. Her magical power was so amazing, and I thought it would be great to be friends with her someday. There are many fairies who think like that."

 "Sara is loved, isn't she?"

"Yes, she's super popular We knew she was a reincarnator, but we thought it was okay as long as she didn't remember. It's not like her past life was always happy, anyway."

 "That's true."

"But Sara was a child who thought like an adult, even more than you'd expect. Her memories didn't come back, but her heart had already merged with her past life, I think. So, maybe that's why she didn't hold a grudge against you, even when she found out about you, Will."

 "Is that so?"

"It's not that I want to be misunderstood, but Sara didn't seem interested in you or the noble title, either."

That was an answer that made Marquis think it would have been better if she had said she hated him or was disliked by him.

"Is that so, she wasn't interested?"

"Yeah~, so don't misunderstand, okay? Sara was a bit broken back then, I think. Think about it. Her father had passed away, and her mother was working hard to make a living, right? Adelia was the kind of person who would even cut back on her own meals to feed Sara. It's not like Sara wouldn't notice that, is it?"

 "Was it that tough?"

"Yes... towards the end, there were many days when she only drank water, I think."

 "My sin is heavy..."

Mike shook her head from side to side with a "swish swish" sound.

"I think Adelia was really arrogant. Even though she ran away, she could've relied on you, Will, and honestly, her own father too. But her pride didn't let her do that until it was too late. She got what was coming to her, but taking away Sara's innocence and physical health is unforgivable. Just because she's a mother doesn't mean it's okay!"

 "That's really harsh, isn't it?"

"As a child, Sara didn't like burdening her beloved mother. But at the same time, Sara's adult heart realized Adelia's selfish sacrifices. All sorts of things clashed inside her, and Sara's heart got exhausted."

 "That's really pitiful."

Marquis let out a sad sigh with a sorrowful face.

"Sara started to lose interest in the people around her. And when Adelia died, Sara just lay down beside her, not wanting to get up."

"Come to think of it, Sara said she wanted to 'sleep together' back then."

"Yeah, she really did want to sleep together like that. In reality, Sara hadn't eaten properly for days, so if she had just lain down, it might've turned out as she hoped."

"Was that the extent of it?"

"Until Will came, we were worried that Sara would disappear. The fairies loved Sara, but Sara herself couldn't find us, so we couldn't help her."

 "Is that how it is?"

"Yeah, and I was lucky enough to become Sara's friend and get a name from her. So I can appear in front of you, and even enjoy a drink together, Will."

Mike raised his glass and smiled brightly.

"So I'm really grateful that you took Sara out. Sara was bullied in this mansion, but by touching other people's emotions, she slowly regained herself. Of course, bullying is bad, but..."

"I didn't realize that at all. What a useless grandfather I am."

"Not everyone can see everything, right? And in the end, it was thanks to the bullying that she regained her past memories, so it all worked out, didn't it?"

 "Mike is really carefree, huh?"

"Is it pointless to regret what's already happened? Reflection is important, but dwelling on it is a waste of time. As a time-controlling fairy, I can't forgive wasting time."

"That's right. Regret is a waste of time."

"If you've reflected on it, then think about what to do next. That's the way to go."

 "Yeah, that's true."

Marquis drained the remaining liquor in his glass and poured more from the bottle. The way he poured the liquor was quite something, but tonight's Marquis seemed to be in that kind of mood.

Then, Mike also emptied the glass and quietly pushed it in front of Marquis. Of course, Marquis poured more liquor into that glass as well.

"I'll tell you what Sara thought when she first regained her past life's memories."

 "Hmm?"

"She said, 'I wanted to fall in love and get married this time around' when she was still 8 years old."

 "Pfft!"

 Marquis couldn't help but choke.

 "That's how it is~."

"It's still too early for that!"

"But in her past life, she was single even after turning 30, so..."

 "That makes sense, I guess."

Well, Mike thought of many other disturbing things, but he decided to keep quiet for Sara's sake.

"That's right. Before she died in her past life, she regretted not being able to drink the liquor she had bought. She was probably a heavy drinker. I want to drink with her when she grows up."

"If Mike lends a hand, she'll grow up in no time."

"That's true. Will is really smart, after all~~."

Mike seemed to have had enough. He drained the remaining the drink, did a few flips in mid-air, and transformed back into a cat, landing on Marquis' lap.

"So, Sara doesn't hate or resent Will. Instead, she's grateful to the person who provided her with a rich and safe living environment. Well, except for Robert, who made her work."

By the way, Marquis was also quite drunk and started stroking Mike on his lap.

 "So... I'm not hated, right?"

 "Yeah, don't worry about it."

Mike let out a relaxed sigh and remained still, enjoying Marquis' strokes.

After that, Marquis lay down on the bed in the next room, but the cat, which was floating and following him, also slipped into the bed where Marquis was lying down.

And the 2 (?) didn't wake up until morning, but whether this counts as sleeping together or not is a matter of opinion.

 Sara: Mike cheated on me...

Author: Shouldn't you be worried that you don't have a turn instead?
