Chapter 118 The Cruel Angel And Little Prince - Side Robert -
It had been a few days since I'd been cooped up in my room when Arthur came to visit me. To be exact, he kicked open the door to my room and barged in.
"Hey, Rob."
I didn't respond, just kept staring at the wall. Then, Adelia burst into my room, grabbed my chest, and started slapping my cheeks back and forth. What a violent woman. Arthur must have terrible taste in women.
"Get a grip! Revi's staying in this country now!"
"Huh? What's going on?"
But I'm really grateful to Adelia for telling me something important. Although, I could only manage a stupid response.
After calming down and listening to the two of them, I found out that Prince Adolf had been purged from his own country, and his engagement to Revi had been canceled. A little while later, the crown prince from Roisen came to apologize officially to our country and Revi. It turned out that Revi's former fiancé had already gotten engaged to someone else, so there was no way for those 2 to get back together.
Revi was completely free now, and even the king said she could live her life as she pleased. Arthur and Adelia were pushing me to try to win Rebecca over, but I didn't do it. Because even if I dedicated my life to her, I knew I couldn't even make her waver.
So I decided to give up on Revi and started interacting with various women. At first, I was serious about finding a partner. But no matter what, I ended up comparing them to Revi.
Before I knew it, I'd become known as a playboy in social circles. But I think it's mutual――the women I'm with don't take me seriously either. Women are living creatures that always look for a better partner, and to them, I'm just a backup plan.
And so, I decided to let Arthur and Adelia use the house and funds that I was planning to use when I escaped with Revi. In return, Arthur gave me the land he received when his magic manifested.
I wanted Arthur and Adelia to be happy in my place. I believed they would fulfill the life filled with love that I had dreamed of. But, Arthur and Adelia, whom I entrusted my dreams to, died ten years later, leaving Sara behind. It seems my dreams won't come true.
* * *
One day, Sara came to Grandchester Castle. Although I thought "this isn't the time for that" due to the aftermath of the theft incident, I easily imagined that if she stayed at the royal palace, she would receive harsh treatment from Ed's family.
It pains my heart to think of those 2 children being bullied. Incidentally, when I heard that they were searching for a governess, I immediately thought of Revi. I heard she was living a carefree life on her own land.
Every time I saw Revi during the season, I felt that she was unaffected by aging. However, at the same time, her intelligent eyes seemed to deepen with each passing year, giving off an aura more like a goddess than a saint. I even hesitated to casually talk to her.
I didn't think that if I hired Revi as a governess, we could spend time together again. Well, maybe I did think that a little. But, I thought it would be great if Revi, who had experience as a governess, could also help with the aftermath of the embezzlement incident. ...Or so I thought, but if I got her involved in my affairs, she might stay to help with my work even if she didn't get along with Sara...
However, the Sara who came to Grandchester Castle was an existence that far surpassed my imagination in many ways. She looked like a small Adelia and was an extremely beautiful girl. She quickly became close with Revi, and from the outside, they looked like good sisters.
But Sara's insides were not what I expected. She's even smarter than Arthur. If I look at her administrative abilities, she might be better than a professor at the Academy. She can use multiple attributes of magic, has the blessing of the spirits, and even has a talent for music. And the cherry on top is that she has the knowledge of a reincarnated person, Zense no Kioku (Memories of Past Life).
Yeah, I don't get it. I gave up trying to understand her early on and just accepted that she's "that kind of existence." Because no matter how much I think about it, I just can't understand.
But there was something even more important than that. And that's how cute Sara is. The moment I saw her, I thought she was the girl from the "place overflowing with love" I used to dream about.
I can't help but think of Sara as my own daughter, and I get the urge to hug her whenever I can. It's strange, but when the 3 of us are together with Revi, it feels like we've become a family. I mean, if Revi had eloped with me back then, Sara's parents could have been us, right? Yeah, it's just a fantasy.
But then, Sara told me something cruel.
"Don't you want to marry Miss Rebecca? If you do, you should confess your feelings and propose to her."
And to make matters worse, Father and Jeff agreed with her too.
"If you get rejected, I'll play your favorite song on the piano tonight, Uncle!"
Sara... you're so mean.
I'm heading to the magic training grounds where Revi is, carrying a big bouquet of flowers, ready to receive the final blow. My footsteps feel heavy. I'm sure my fantasy is about to come to an end. Will Sara pick up the pieces of my shattered heart...?
