Chapter 124 From Dressmaker To Blacksmith
With Elma Brande's business out of the way, a stop by the library would be a convenient next step, given the proximity within the Maiden's Tower.
"Then. I'm heading to the library. I'd like to meet Ms. Amelia (Pharmacist Girl) and Ms. Alicia (Alchemist Girl) too. What about Ms. Teresa and Mr. Fran?"
"I'll go visit my mom and cousin's house for now."
"Then, please tell them I'd like to meet up soon. If possible, I'd like to take a look at the wine cellar, so I'll drop by their place."
"I understand. I'll pass on the message."
Fran nodded. He had 2 small bottles containing the two types of Elma Brandy's products from earlier.
"What about Ms. Teresa?"
"That's right. I'm going back to think about what to do with the workshop. If we're going to make a lot of distillation furnaces, I need to do something about the workshop. My workshop is too small to make furnaces of that size..."
"That's not final yet, so I need to hear my grandfather's opinion. By the way, what kind of blacksmith was Ms. Teresa's father?"
"My dad was a blacksmith who made weapons. He was particularly good at making swords and spears. I myself wanted to make swords like my dad, but there weren't any knights or adventurers who would ask a female blacksmith to make them. So, I ended up repairing farm tools and making distillation furnaces for Alicia (Alchemist Girl)."
"Oh, that's a completely different line of work, isn't it?"
"On the other hand, Fran prefers making tools for daily life rather than weapons, but it seems like he's unhappy with the current workshop making battle-axes."
"Hey, don't say unnecessary things to Miss Sara!"
Fran hastily stopped Teresa the Blacksmith Girl's words.
"I think Mr. Fran is better suited for the distillation furnace job, don't you?"
"But I'll be in trouble if I don't have a job too..."
"Why don't you ask Ms. Teresa to make a sword for me?"
""Huh?""
Sara glanced at Scott.
"I've started learning swordsmanship with Scott and Blaze here. But I haven't found a sword that fits my body type yet."
"Do you really need a real sword at your age, Miss Sara?"
"What do you think, Scott?"
"I think Sara should have a real sword. Of course, we can practice with wooden swords, but it's better to practice with a real one too. We can make adjustments as her body grows. I think it's a good idea to make a new one that fits her."
"That's right. I use dual swords, which are a bit special. I tried using an adult-sized sword, but it was too heavy and hard to handle, so I want one that fits my body. Wouldn't it be great if you could make the perfect weapon for me?"
Teresa the Blacksmith Girl gulped. This was an unexpected request.
"Then, if I get permission from my master, I'll make Miss Sara's dual swords for her."
"I'll go get the necessary permissions today."
Sara smiled brightly.
"It seems like Sara prioritizes choosing a swordsmith over her favorite dressmaker."
"Scott, dresses are useless anyway. They're hard to move around in, and I think clothes like Blaze's are better If not, then maybe something like Ms. Teresa the Blacksmith Girl's."
Both of them were wearing simple tunics and sturdy pants, with their hems tucked into half-boots. However, Teresa the Blacksmith Girl's tunic had a loose design that flared out around her thighs, and she wore a cloth corset over it. This way, she could cinch her waist without restricting her chest.
"Ms. Sara is quite the tomboy, isn't she? But since I can't compare Ms. Sara to Miss Rebecca, please wear a dress while studying."
"Yes~"
As expected Sara got scolded by Thomas, so she has no choice but to back down here.
"No matter what, we need to clean up the workshop and get ready to work seriously. And since my father passed away, I couldn't make a living just by being a blacksmith, so I've been helping out on the farm too. From now on, I plan to focus on blacksmithing, but I can't just quit suddenly, so I need to help with the wheat harvest starting tomorrow."
"You're going to be busy, aren't you, Ms. Teresa?"
"I think it'll be busy for about a week. But don't worry, Fran will take care of the Elma Brandy distillation."
"Okay. You do your best, Ms. Teresa."
For Grandchester, wheat is the biggest specialty product. She shouldn't get in the way of Teresa, who's carrying the torch for it.
After seeing Teresa and Fran off, Sara finally made her way to the library. When she opened the library door, Thomas let out a sigh of amazement.
"This is amazing..."
He just muttered that, but Thomas was frozen in place, gazing up at the bookshelves that reached the ceiling.
'Well, I guess that's to be expected.'
"While it may be smaller than the Academy's library, I think this one has its own unique beauty."
"I've never seen the Academy's library, so I can't compare, but this is my pride and joy, my library."
"Did you just say 'my' library, Ms. Sara?"
"Yes. This library, including the Maiden's Tower and the surrounding land, is my private property."
"What!"
Suddenly, Thomas knelt down in front of Sara.
"Ms. Sara, I swear my loyalty to you from the bottom of my heart. Please, may I have permission to enter and exit this library?"
'Ah, I knew it Well, I understand how he feels.'
"Mister Thomas, you don't need to swear loyalty to me. I myself don't mind letting you in and out, but as the name 'Maiden Tower' suggests, most of the people working here are women. However, Mister Thomas, you're hiding your face to avoid trouble with women, aren't you?"
"Yes... But if I can come and go as I please, I'll keep my face hidden forever!"
Thomas looked like he was about to give up.
"That's what I think, too. I don't want Mister Thomas to hide his true self, but if Mister Thomas works here, you might accidentally show your face, right?"
"Maybe so."
"So, I want the women working here to know from the start. Mister Thomas is a handsome guy, so I think many women might fall for you. But I believe there are no women in this tower who would cause trouble."
'I believe the Maidens and the maids in this castle see beyond appearances and look at the heart.'
"Let's introduce Mister Thomas to the maidens working here and get their approval before allowing you to come and go. Besides, you've already met Miss Rebecca and Ms. Teresa, and I don't think they'd say no. Mister Thomas is handsome, but they didn't seem to mind at all."
"Haha, I thought I was being overly self-conscious."
"Ah, don't be too relieved. Without a doubt, Mister Thomas is a pretty boy."
Sara quickly added.
"After that, Mister Thomas need to get permission from Ms. Alicia (Alchemist Girl) and Ms. Amelia (Pharmacist Girl). Especially since they live in this tower, they might be strict about men entering."
"Wait, is there a dormitory here?"
"Yes, there is. They live in the servant's quarters, but there's also a guest room. By the way, I have a room here too, but I rarely use it since I have a room in the main residence."
"What's going on... Ms. Sara get to live in a library this amazing? It's like a paradise on earth!"
Thomas had a look of utter ecstasy on his face. His students gazed at him with a mixture of confusion and amusement.
"Sara, something's off about Mister Thomas."
"Blaze, among book lovers, there are sometimes people like this. Don't take it too seriously."
"I've never seen Mister Thomas make a face like that before."
Sara decided to intervene, not wanting to leave Thomas in that state.
"I understand how you feel, but this library has been neglected for a long time, so it's mostly old books. There's no librarian, and we haven't fully grasped the collection, so we don't know if there are books in the field that interests you, Mister Thomas."
"There's no librarian?!"
'Ah, no... I might have said too much.'
"Sara, you're not going to hire Mister Thomas as a librarian? He's our tutor, after all."
"That's right, Sara..."
"Well, even if the maidens say no, I'll let him in. In the worst-case scenario, he'll just have to put up with it."
"Yes..."
However, Thomas was still gazing longingly at the books in the library.
"Let's introduce him to the maidens for now."
Sara decided to ask Maria to call over Alicia the Alchemist Girl and Amelia the Pharmacist Girl.
