chapter 254 I Want It Too

Chapter 254 I Want It Too

Today, Rebecca is taking a break from being a governess. The hunting tournament itself has ended, but since many guests are still staying, Rebecca, who is already engaged and in charge, has a mountain of work to do. She is probably still seeing off the nobles who are heading home.

Thomas also took the morning off. His grandfather, Viscount Tyler, participated in the hunting tournament and said, "I want to see my grandson before I go back."

The two main teachers who are absent are being replaced by Cordelia, the female educator, and Jane. However, since Cordelia's time is mostly taken up by Adam's individual lessons, Alicia and Amelia are also scheduled to join as special instructors today.

When Cordelia the female educator arrived at Maiden's Tower, she saw several wooden boxes being carried by golems from the wagon. At first, Cordelia tried to carry them herself, but a guard golem hurried over to help her.

"Good morning. Miss Sara, Mr. Scott, Mr. Blaze."

"Good morning. Miss Cordelia. That looks like a lot of stuff, what is it?"

In her line of sight, Sara saw a golem passing the cargo to another golem. The guard golem, which was larger, handed off the load to a smaller golem that was near the entrance.

'What could it be... It's like the teamwork of robots in a logistics warehouse.'

"Ah, I brought this for Sir Adam's teaching materials. I wanted other teachers to see it too, and I was hoping to get ideas for educational materials for elementary education."

Inside the box were various wooden toys.

"Um, isn't this a bit too much for Adam, even for him?"

Maybe Cordelia understood what was being thought through the gaze and expression, as she smiled wryly.

"These are just toys, but they are also excellent educational toys, so I wanted to discuss if the merchant guild could handle them."

 "Oh, I see."

What Cordelia pulled out from the bottom of the box was a mountain of 'bundles of paper.' Since they were tied with string, they looked like books.

"This is a story I wrote for my students. If they only have the same picture books, they'll get bored."

"So, this is Miss Cordelia's original work?"

"It's nothing special. I just wrote stories on topics that would catch the children's interest to help them learn to read and write."

Sara picked up these books and started flipping through them. Just reading the beginning, there were many adventure stories, and they were interesting.

"Miss Cordelia should become a writer, shouldn't she?"

"That's a bit exaggerated. Besides, I'm just so happy being a teacher."

"Can I turn this manuscript into a book? I promise to donate 100 copies each to schools and the community if it becomes a picture book. Of course, I will pay Miss Cordelia royalties from the sales."

"If this rough content is okay, feel free to use it as much as you want. If it can be made into a proper picture book, it will be easy to use as teaching material, so donations are very welcome. If possible, please use large letters."

About 20 manuscripts were taken out of the box right there. This was content tailored to Adam's level, and it seemed there were many more picture books for younger children. Sara made sure to check all the manuscripts and took notes.

"Putting reading and writing aside, we should ultimately leave math to Mister Thomas. However, right now, we don't have enough basic education to understand Mister Thomas's lessons, so I will quickly teach that part."

"Considering the exam period, we don't have much time. Should I prepare a multiplication table? Mister Thomas had one ready for Blaze when he was studying at the main residence, but it became unnecessary quickly, so I didn't bring it here."

"That's a great story that shows Mr. Blaze's excellence. So, can you do it?"

"Leave it to me. I will have it ready by the next class."

'With such enthusiasm, it's hard to say that even with terrible grades, they could pass. Well, it would be better for the academy people if the grades improved, I guess.'

Sara was thinking some pretty harsh things. Of course, she hoped Adam could reach the passing level, but since he was so far behind, she couldn't fully believe in him.

However, just as Sara was sinking into her thoughts, the Young Marquis couple's children and Jane, Chloe's governess, arrived at the entrance.

 "Good morning!"

With a cheerful voice, Adam approached Cordelia with affection.

But Chloe and Christopher looked completely worn out.

"Chloe, Chris, what's wrong? You both look so tired."

"I had to help Adam with his self-study."

"What did you work so hard on?"

"Just writing poetry. I had to listen to Adam's terrible poems the whole time and he kept asking for my thoughts... it was the worst."

 "I see."

'So they had to listen to those enka-like poems the whole time, that's really unfortunate.'

But Adam happily handed a paper with his poems to Cordelia. Cordelia, who received it, was also smiling widely.

 "But Adam has really changed."

"Yeah. I've never seen him so enthusiastic and happy before."

 "Isn't that a good thing?"

"Maybe, but if Sara had to study poetry with him, you'd understand how we feel."

 "Sorry, I'll pass."

When they moved to the classroom, they received an explanation about today's lessons from the teachers.

"Today, since Miss Rebecca and Mister Thomas are absent, I've asked Miss Jane to teach history in the morning. Mr. Adam has a different curriculum, so I will be with him. In the afternoon, we will study magic circles with Ms. Alicia and Ms. Amelia. While this content is not directly related to the academy entrance exams, many magical tools are included in the new products from the Sophia Merchant Guild. I believe this will likely become a new industry in Grandchester, so I thought it would be better for everyone in the Grandchester family to understand how magical tools work."

 "Sounds interesting!"

Chloe's eyes sparkled at Cordelia's explanation.

"Chloe, do you like that kind of stuff?"

"I never really thought about it before, Sara, but after getting the magic stone and healing magic circle from Sara, I became interested. I have magical power, so even if I don't manifest magic, if I can draw the magic circle myself, I should be able to use magic, right?"

"What about the magic stone that acts as a medium?"

Christopher jumped in with a question about Chloe's statement. Then, Alicia, the alchemist girl, who had been watching their exchange, answered.

"There are magic circles that can be activated even without a magic stone, as long as you can channel your magical power. Let's study those things too. It's known that the amount of magical power you can hold increases when you are low on magical energy, but actively channeling your magical power can also improve the efficiency of magic when you manifest it."

"So, does that mean you can activate the same magic with less magical power?"

When Sara asked Alicia a question, Alicia smiled brightly and answered.

"That's right, Miss Sara. Also, for those who have manifested magic, it affects their ability to control it, so it's better to study properly, okay?"

"That's true, not being able to control a large amount of magic is dangerous, right?"

Just the other day, Sara had experienced a huge magic surge, so she understood this from her own experience.

* * *

Miss Jane's history class wasn't just about memorizing dates; it was a fun class that dramatically taught what events happened at different times. She also introduced stories and poems based on historical events, so it seemed like they would deepen their literary knowledge along with history.

'Wow, this class is interesting! The history buff in me is excited!'

However, Christopher, who seemed to have a relatively high IQ, showed his weakness here. He had no problem remembering historical events and names, but he was terrible at geography.

"Does Chris not understand the positions of the surrounding countries?"

"I might not be very good at it."

"Oh dear, that could be a bit of a problem."

Still, the maps in this world weren't very accurate, so there were surprisingly many people who only understood rough locations. Some commoners had never even properly looked at a map.

"Then, should we ask the golem for a book that might help with geography later?"

 "Why the golem, Sara?"

"Because they remember all the books."

 "Huh!?"

At the end of history class, Sara stepped outside the classroom and called a golem.

"Hey, I want you to pick a book that will help me study geography. Also, I need a map that's as accurate as possible."

 "Who will be reading it?"

 "Chris."

As it answered, the golem walked over to the desk where writing tools and paper were, and quickly wrote down the titles of several books.

"If it's Sir Christopher, I recommend this book from the main residence. It's also available here, so you can read it right away. Would you like me to bring it to you?"

"No, that's okay for now. Chris, you can read it when you get back, right?"

 "Y-Yeah, that's true."

"Understood. As for the map, if you're looking for the most accurate one available, I think it would be better to have Magi draw it. It has incorporated several maps, but it can create something more precise than those. Still, it seems Magi is very dissatisfied and wants to create and operate a surveying golem."

"If that's the case, shouldn't we just make a drone?"

"If you can make one, then definitely!"

Sara was surprised that the golem responded so enthusiastically. It seemed that Magi had quite a bit of dissatisfaction with the maps.

However, Christopher, who was watching the exchange, was left speechless in shock.

"I thought I knew the golem was high-performance, but is it really this amazing? It's way smarter than I am."

"If we're talking about the knowledge it can read from books, it definitely has a lot more knowledge than you do. But I don't think being smart is just about that."

Then Scott and Blaze started whispering to each other.

"Hey, when we get into the Academy, Mister Thomas wants to be a librarian at Maiden's Tower, right? At this rate, he can't win against the golems."

"The golems are definitely better at heavy work. I mean, he doesn't have to be a librarian; he can just go to read books."

Their conversation cast a little shadow on Thomas's hopes for the future. It was true that golems might be better as librarians.

 Then Chloe approached.

"Hey Sara, I want a golem too."

"What would you use it for?"

"I want to have it work with my lady-in-waiting and maids. They won't forget things, and they won't betray me. Plus, they seem to have combat abilities, so they could be bodyguards, right?"

"The magic stone inside alone costs enough to build a noble's mansion in the capital. Can you afford that, Chloe?"

 "That's impossible."

 Chloe sighed, looking disappointed.

"Then you should take Alicia's classes seriously. Maybe one day you could make a golem yourself."

"I think the magic stone is impossible."

"Maybe you can find a solution for that too?"

"But I can't study at the Academy."

"Alicia didn't go to the Academy either. That's normal, right?"

"That's true. But she has her father."

"In exchange, you have Maiden's Tower. There are plenty of Paracelsus's materials here, and the golems will help you too. Alicia is showing you that the Academy isn't the only option, right?"

"That's true! But if that's the case, maybe I should join the school in the Grandchester territory too."

"Hmm. If you don't act all high and mighty just because you're a noble, I might consider it."

 "Just like Adam?"

"Yeah, but don't forget that you have the role of promoting the Sophia Merchant Guild's products in high society, Chloe."

"Hmm. That's tough. I wish I had magic to teleport."

"I wish I had that too."
