Chapter 309 The Magic Of Becoming Beautiful
Hannah had a troubled look on her face as she spoke to Sara and Chloe.
"Hey, ladies, you're going to get scolded by the maids and teachers again. Please wait here instead of going to the kitchen."
"Oh, the maids are too busy with Amelia to care about us."
Chloe, still holding Charlotte, responded to Hannah, and Sara, just like Chloe earlier, poked Charlotte's cheek with her finger.
"Having skin like this is definitely better when it's youthful!"
"Sara, why do you think about that when Charlotte is right here?"
"Because it feels amazing to touch!"
"That's definitely true."
While Hannah's warnings went in one ear and out the other, Rihito observed Sara and Chloe having fun while eating. Once they finished their meal, he spoke up, sounding a bit exasperated.
"Miss Sara, wasn't today the day to dress up Amelia?"
"It's not about dressing her up. I'm bringing out her natural beauty."
"I don't really get it, but at least Charlotte isn't related to this, right?"
"What are you talking about? Getting close to this smooth, squishy, and plump skin is the foundation of beauty! What were you studying in your past life!?"
"Human immune cells, actually."
"Oh, well, I didn't want a serious answer, but..."
"Yeah, I figured."
When Rihito replied calmly, Sara became a little quieter.
"Lady Chloe, I understand you want to play with Charlotte, but you shouldn't interrupt Ms. Hannah's work. Today, Ms. Ava is absent, and she is preparing dinner while baking your scones all by herself."
"Well, I didn't realize that. Hannah, I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry too."
Chloe and Sara sincerely apologized to Hannah. Chloe loves Charlotte, but she also cares about her mother, Hannah.
"It's okay. You ladies always treat Charlotte well, so I'm very grateful. By the way, if the maids are busy, what should we do about tea? The scones are fresh out of the oven."
"Shiina can help, so let's have her bring it."
Rihito stood up, walked to the hallway, and called out to Thomashiina in a slightly loud voice. He then took the empty dishes to the washing area and started washing them himself.
"Sir Rihito! You don't need to do that. I'll wash them, so please leave it be."
"No, it's fine. I'm almost done. It's just the soup bowl and plate."
After quickly finishing the dishes, Rihito tried to dry them with a cloth, but Hannah wouldn't allow that. She swiftly took the cloth and efficiently cleaned up the dishes.
"Rihito, you're really good at handling things."
"I've spent a lot of time alone."
"Well, you know, it seems like it would be more of a burden for Hannah if Rihito washes the dishes instead of us going directly to the kitchen, right? Since she has a strong sense of duty, she probably feels guilty for making Rihito wash the plates. Plus, she's not good with men, and she's getting close enough to grab a towel in a panic."
"Ah!"
Hannah, who was standing a little away, had an apologetic look on her face.
"Really, Sir Rihito isn't scary at all. But when I get close, I freeze up... I don't know how it ended up like this. If I don't fix this soon, I'll keep bothering everyone..."
Rihito smiled gently at Hannah and took a small step back.
"Ms. Hannah, there's nothing for you to worry about. Just like the body, the heart can get hurt too. Pushing yourself will only make the wounds worse. Now is the time to take care of yourself."
Seeing this, Sara approached Hannah instead of Rihito and gently held her hands.
"I think everyone heals at their own pace. So it's okay to take your time. Besides, this is the Maiden's Tower protected by golems, so no one can hurt you, so you can relax."
Chloe, holding Charlotte from behind Sara, also came closer and spoke kindly to Hannah.
"Of course, Lottie is safe too."
"Safe!"
"This really is a peaceful and happy place."
Charlotte repeated Chloe's words with a big smile, and seeing that, Hannah smiled softly at her daughter.
Just then, Thomashiina arrived, and the tea set, including scones, was safely brought up to the second floor.
"Hannah, can I take Lottie to tea?"
"Are you sure it's not a bother?"
Hannah replied to Chloe with a worried look. She thought that since Charlotte still couldn't drink herbal tea, bringing her to the tea gathering might be a hassle.
"It's fine. Plus, I'm sure Sara will serve us Elma juice again."
"Oh, Chloe, you're sharp. There's a new type of Elma juice that was harvested while I was sick. It's really sweet, so I think Charlotte will like it."
"Really? I want to try that too."
"Then let's go upstairs. What about you, Rihito?"
"I'm full, but I think I could make room for that scone."
"Haha. Is tea okay? We have coffee too."
"Tea goes better with scones, right? Do you have black tea?"
"We do. I think Maria will come down soon, so it's better to have her make it. She makes it tastier than I do, even though we do it the same way."
As the 4 of them followed Thomashiina upstairs, Amelia was slowly coming down from the third floor, accompanied by maids and women from the village.
Rihito was amazed by the sight. He had expected Amelia to become beautiful, but the current Amelia far exceeded his expectations.
"Whoa, did you get plastic surgery?"
"Rihito... that technology doesn't exist in this world yet."
"What kind of magician did this?"
"I'm just using light attribute healing magic and water attribute magic to make my skin younger. The rest is thanks to the skills of my beauty maid. It might be even better than my magic."
"Wow, that's really amazing."
"See, Amelia? Rihito looks so stunned by your beauty!"
Then Amelia blushed slightly and smiled softly.
"I should probably be modest, but I'm honestly surprised myself, so I'll just take it as a compliment. Miss Sara's magic was amazing too, but I'm really shocked by how serious the maids were."
One of the maids who had been standing behind stepped forward and explained Amelia's current state to Rihito.
"It's not that special. I just emphasized her eyes a little and added a light touch of color to her lips. Then, to highlight her youthful charm, I added a tiny bit of color to her cheeks. It's really just the bare minimum for makeup, but since Lady Amelia usually goes without it, I guess the difference is surprising."
"Still, she has become an incredibly beautiful young lady."
Rihito was impressed and walked around Amelia, looking at her from different angles.
"Milady Sara's magic helped repair her skin too, Sir Rihito. Lady Amelia spends a lot of time outdoors, so it seems like she couldn't hide the damage from sun exposure."
"I see. If one goes outside without makeup, even with a hat, they can still get sunburned."
"But thanks to Milady Sara repairing her skin, Lady Amelia's skin is now as beautiful as a baby's. It's really wonderfully clear, so I just put a tiny bit of powder on her."
Suddenly, Rihito stopped and turned to the maid who was explaining.
"Wait, what is that powder made of?"
Sara, Amelia, and Alicia understood what Rihito was worried about.
"It's okay. We're not using lead white. I wouldn't allow it with me around."
"But, you know, when I was in the royal capital, no matter how careful I was, the girls kept using face powder with lead white. A lot of them ended up dying because of it."
Rihito remembered the past and felt down.
"This is a new product that the Sophia Merchant Guild will release soon. It's Amelia's hard work, and since she looks beautiful herself, it makes it even more convincing. But hiring adventurers to go all the way to the Aklar Mountains to get mica is tough, so stable supply is hard. Still, we're determined to lower the price and get rid of bad cosmetics."
"Sara, you're using your knowledge cheat a bit too much, aren't you?"
When Rihito said this with a sigh, Sara glared back at him.
"Please don't say something rude, Rihito. I told you before. This is Amelia's work. It's her achievement. By the way, the notes on how to extract mica from mica were written by you, and they helped Amelia."
"Wait, that was my fault?"
Sara and Amelia nodded silently, while Alicia watched her great-great-grandfather with a wry smile.
"And if we're talking about knowledge cheats, it was Rihito who scattered notes on magic stone research and Magi studies. Alicia, who came to Maiden's Tower, is happily continuing the research. I wish you wouldn't make it sound like I'm the only one going wild."
"Is that so?"

Alicia has a really nice smile. It's the smile of a mad scientist.
"I'll ask just in case, but what kind of doll does Rihito like?"
"It's a secret I'll take to the grave."
"Then stop writing it down!"
"I thought it would be okay since it's in Japanese."
"Even though you were looking for someone like you?"
"Haha, it's contradictory, right?"
While Sara and Rihito were having this silly conversation, Charlotte walked over to Amelia.
"Big Swister Amelia, you're so pretty!"
"Thank you, Charlotte."
"Hey, when Lottie grows up, will Lottie be able to use magic to be pretty too?"
"I think you will. I'm planning to develop cosmetics to help people become beautiful."
"Then Lottie will make Mommy pretty. Mommy was even prettier before Lottie was born. But Daddy did a lot of hurtful things, so Mommy isn't as pretty as she used to be."
Charlotte's words shocked everyone around her. They knew Hannah had escaped from her abusive husband, but even little Charlotte seemed to worry about how her mother was hurt by her father. It made them realize just how terrible their situation was.
"Charlotte is a good girl. Do you want to work at Maiden's Tower in the future?"
Sara approached Charlotte, gently patting her head and bending down to meet her eye level.
"Lottie will be someone who makes sweets! Lottie will make and sell sweets at a shop!"
"I see. So Charlotte's dream is to be a pastry chef. Then I'll support you with all my might!"
"Sara, do you like sweets too?"
"I love them! So please make a lot of delicious snacks!"
"Got it!"
Then Chloe came over and picked up Charlotte again.
"Of course, I will support Lottie. But for now, let's enjoy the scones that Hannah baked together. Hey, Sara. Today, let's have all the maids and ladies join us too. It might be a little rude, but it's fine to stand while we eat!"
However, after hearing Chloe's words, Rihito dramatically opposed her suggestion.
"We cannot let such lovely ladies stand. Lady Chloe, please allow me to prepare chairs and a table."
"Uh, um. Then Mr. Rihito, could you please do that?"
"Certainly."
Rihito smiled at the surprised Chloe and activated his earth magic, creating a large table and enough chairs for everyone one after another.
Once Sara confirmed that the table and chairs were ready, she took her turn and created a lot of glasses and teacups in front of her, along with a basket piled high with a new type of Elma and a bottle filled with plenty of Elma juice squeezed from the same fruit.
Of course, Charlotte was super excited watching all of this.
"Then let's start the tea party right away!"
