chapter 325 The Incident On The First Snow Day

Chapter 325 The Incident On The First Snow Day

"Milady Sara, it seems your friends have arrived."

When Maria said this, Sara turned to the door just as Scott and the others were coming into the room.

 "Good morning, Sara!"

 "Good morning, Scott, Blaze."

"Sara, it's starting to snow outside!"

"It's finally begun. This is my first winter in Grandchester, so I'm a bit nervous."

Scott grinned and patted Blaze on the shoulder.

"When the snow piles up, people start making snow sculptures in the square. This year, let's make something too!"

 "There's an event like that?"

"Yeah, and I bet Sara could whip something up with her magic."

"Hmm. Maybe I should make an ice sculpture instead of a snow one."

"Sara, your drawing skills are terrible, but can you really make a sculpture?"

 Blaze looked worried.

"I think I can do it since I can make golems."

"Hey, can you create a living golem just from your imagination without a specific model?"

 "Uh, I don't know. I've never tried."

Sara took out a golem unit and tried to shape a female golem just from her imagination.

...but 5 minutes later, Sara decided she would never create a golem without a model again.

"Maybe when I create a living golem, I'm unconsciously analyzing a model. That's why I can shape it so accurately. The model for Thomashiina is the male Mister Thomas, but I think I can imagine a female form pretty accurately from that."

Scott and Blaze, who had just seen Sara's golem creation up close, nodded silently with pale faces at Sara's opinion. It seemed they had witnessed something that would make them unable to go to the bathroom at night.

Feeling a bit guilty, Sara decided to ask Maria to make a lot of warm milk tea for the two of them. By the way, it seemed Maria was fine with seeing Sara's golem. When asked why, she cheerfully replied,

"Well, when you work at Grandchester Castle, you see all sorts of things, so you can't be surprised all the time."

 This made Sara freeze instead.

"Well, it is an ancient castle with over 500 years of history. I guess there are all kinds of things..."

Sara gave up on thinking too deeply.

"Ah, we'll need to shovel snow, right?"

"Yes, that's right. I was at the royal residence until I came to Grandchester with Milady Sara, so I haven't actually participated in the snow removal here."

"It's a lot of work every year. Grandchester Castle is big, so we only clear the important areas and leave the rest. The snow naturally falls off the roof, and the fallen snow is designed to fall into a drainage system that doesn't freeze."

"Wow, it's really designed that way."

"The drainage system was set up by the founder Kazuya. Well, his real name is Henry, but all the boys in Grandchester call him Kazuya."

 Scott said thoughtfully.

"But, if it's a snowy area, why doesn't the drainage freeze?"

"There's a large magical device installed in the castle to warm the drainage. In winter, we activate the device to warm the drainage, and that heat melts the snow."

 "Wow."

"It flows to the capital at a pretty high temperature, so the people there can warm themselves. Besides the snow, the castle's drainage flows into the irrigation channels, but the drainage goes through a purification tank first, so it's not that dirty."

"I knew Kazuya was into that kind of stuff. By the way, what about the materials on magical tools?"

"The lord manages those. Only direct heirs can view them, so we can only hear a little bit about it."

"I think technologies that are important for the public should be shared to develop further."

"Tell that to the head of the Grandchester family."

"Hmm... I wonder if I can convince my grandfather to let me see the materials."

"I'd really like to see them too."

Thomashiina looked very interested. Well, to be precise, it should be said that Magi wants to see the materials.

"Well, I guess I have to ask my grandfather. I feel like it's time to change those confusing family rules."

"Like the one about absolute obedience to reincarnators?"

"Exactly. If we go by that logic, doesn't that mean my grandfather has to obey Rihito too?"

"Haha, that's true. Oh, I guess I do too."

"Does that mean I have to absolutely obey Sara now that I'm adopted?"

"Stop saying such weird things, you guys."

"I'd be okay with obeying Sara, though."

"I wonder about me... I'd prefer to just interact normally."

Scott and Blaze started to think seriously about the family rules.

"You don't have to think about such pointless things. I don't want to make you obey me. Friends are good enough!"

"Friends... hmm. I'd like a bit of a different relationship, though."

"I'm fine with being friends. Oh, but I want to be your closest friend!"

Sara found it strange that Thomas wasn't here since the topic had turned to relationships. She thought he would come upstairs after stopping the carriage, but it seemed like he wasn't coming today.

 "Where's Mister Thomas today?"

"He's sick with a cold and resting. So, Miss Jane is going to review grammar with him."

"Oh no, that's too bad. The temperature dropped suddenly, so it must be tough for someone not from Grandchester. I think today is really cold."

"If you can't handle this much, you won't survive winter in Grandchester. Plus, Sara, you can use body enhancement, so if you boost your metabolism, you shouldn't feel cold."

 "That's a good point!"

"You didn't know? Didn't your father or Daniel tell you?"

"Maybe like Scott, they thought I would know."

 "That's possible."

Just as Sara was talking to Scott, she noticed something was off with Blaze. Blaze had been quiet and seemed more subdued than usual.

"Blaze, you're really quiet today. Is something wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong, but I have a slight headache."

Looking closely, Sara saw that Blaze's face was red. When she placed her hand on Blaze's forehead, it was clear that Blaze had a fever.

 "Blaze, you have a fever!"

"Someone prepare a guest room. Is Maria back?"

Just then, Maria returned with tea and noticed that Sara was in a panic. She quickly set the teapot down on a nearby table and rushed over.

 "What happened?"

"Blaze has a fever. I'm having the other maids prepare a guest room, but what should we do now?"

"First, Milady Sara, please calm down. Thomashiina, I'm sorry, but could you contact the golem near Sir Rihito and the others?"

"I've already contacted them. They're on their way. Sir Rihito will also call out to Lady Amelia on the way."

"Then we just need to wait. Let's prepare some extra hot water, just in case. Sir Blaze, can you walk?"

Maria called out to Blaze and watched for his reaction.

"You don't have to be so dramatic. I just have a little headache."

Blaze replied with a smile, but his breathing was clearly quickening, and his voice was weak.

"I'll leave the exact diagnosis to Sir Rihito and Lady Amelia, but it's clear that Sir Blaze is not feeling well. You have a high fever too. For now, let's lie down in the guest room."

Nodding, Blaze tried to stand up from the sofa he had been sitting on, but he wobbled and almost fell. Thomashiina caught him and carried him toward the guest room.

 "Noir, are you there?"

Sara called out to the black wolf fairy, who was Blaze's friend.

 "Blaze looks unwell."

"It suddenly got cold, so it might be a cold. I plan to have Rihito check him, but could you let Sir Jeffrey know, just in case?"

 "Understood."

 Sara turned to Scott.

"Scott, since you might also be infected, you should get checked after Blaze. If Mister Thomas is also bedridden with a fever, we need to consider that it might not just be a regular cold."

"That's the same for Sara, right?"

"That's true. I need to get checked too. Also, I have to make sure to wash my hands, gargle, and disinfect properly. Oh, I might need to make some masks."

"When it comes to Sara, a lot of strange knowledge comes out, doesn't it?"

"Basically, we just need to prevent infection. Also, if Blaze's symptoms are bad, it might be better to take him to Maiden's Tower. You came by horse today, right?"

 "Yeah."

"You could get a carriage, but it might be better not to move it today. There are pharmacist here, so it's safe. Oh, it might be best for Chloe and Chris to go home. It's better not to get close if it's an infectious disease."

Sara sent a nearby golem to the main residence to report the situation and stopped Chloe and the others from entering Maiden's Tower to prevent infection.

Just then, Rihito rushed in. Amelia and Alicia were behind him.

 "Where's the patient?"

"In the guest room on the far east side. The room isn't fully warm yet, but the fireplace is lit. There's a big pot hanging over it to keep boiling water."

As Maria answered calmly, Rihito nodded and headed toward the guest room where Blaze was resting. While walking, Rihito took a fabric mask from his spatial storage and put it on. It seemed he had given instructions beforehand, as Thomashiina was standing by the guest room with a handwashing bucket.

'Oh, so handwashing and masks are effective after all.'

Sara quickly shaped some white cloth from her spatial storage into masks, just like she did with her dress during transformation. After making about 30 at once, she started distributing them to Scott and the maids.

"Since there's a possibility of an infection, could you please wear that while you work?"

 "Understood."

"By the way, I want to ask, is there an outbreak of fever?"

"There are quite a few people in Grandchester Castle. There are probably even more in the capital."

"Is it like this every winter?"

"Yes, it definitely increases, and if it gets serious, there can be deaths."

 "I see. Thank you."

The maids seemed used to such fevers, but they couldn't hide their anxiety. There were probably quite a few patients getting serious.

"Scott, it looks like you have some free time now. But Rihito and Amelia are capable, so it's fine."

"Sara... My mother passed away from a fever. I was young, so I don't remember clearly, but I think she said her head hurt."

 "I see..."

Scott drooped his shoulders and stared at the door where Thomashiina had carried Blaze out.

"When my mother fell ill, my father was accompanying His Excellency the Marquis to the capital. By the time my father returned, my mother was almost unconscious, and he couldn't even talk to her. He could only hold her hand tightly."

"That's... really sad for both Sir Jeffrey and you, Scott. It must have been tough."

"I knew that healing magic doesn't work on fevers, but still, my father asked Lady Orson to use her healing magic. She did come, after all."

"Yeah. My mother would definitely do that."

"Thanks to that, my mother's condition improved a little, and she regained consciousness for a while. So, my father and I were able to say our final goodbyes to her. I knew that healing magic couldn't cure her fever, so I can only be grateful to Lady Orson for improving her symptoms, even if just for a short time. But I remember we kept crying, thinking that if she had more power, she could have saved her. Later, my father regretted that he had made a cruel request of her."

"If it were my mother, I think she would have come even without being asked."

"Yeah, that's true. She's a kind person. I still remember how divine Lady Orson looked when she used her healing magic; she was my first love, after all."

Scott smiled softly, looking off into the distance. Sara heard that his mother passed away about ten years ago. He must have been a toddler, and Rebecca's troubles with Roisen had just been resolved.

"That's quite an early first love. So, are you disappointed about her engagement with my father?"

"Not really, since I have Sara now. Aren't you thinking about getting engaged to me soon?"

"Hmm. It seems difficult to respond to that feeling."

"Is it that you prefer my father? I think I would look just like him."

"As you know, I'm a reincarnator, and I'm actually older than your mother. You still look like a child to me, Scott."

"Did you stop being the same age as my father?"

 "Yeah."

"You treated Mister Thomas like a kid, right? He was really down about it."

"There were better ways to say it. I feel like I did something bad."

"Well, I did get rejected, but neither Mister Thomas nor I have given up."

 "Really? Is that so?"

"We'll both grow up someday. I think Sara won't have that much time to be so relaxed."

"I'm starting to get a little scared."

"And besides, my father is going to get old really fast."

"I still think Sir Jeffrey is cool, even as he ages!"

"Speaking of which, I saw Blaze as an adult. He was super handsome. If he has the skills to match, he'll be an incredible rival."

"Yeah, he was shockingly good-looking. Noir says he looks just like his real father."

"Wow. I guess that's what being royal is like."

Scott suddenly had a serious look on his face.

"Then hurry up and get better, so you can stop making us worry..."

It seems like the older brother is really worried about his younger brother.
