Chapter 333 At The Knight's Dormitory - Side Simon -

'Wow, seriously, those ladies are amazing!'

Simon heard that the dorm mothers from alchemist guild came to help, and he thought they were there to take care of the sick knights. However, the dorm mothers mercilessly kicked the knights' butts and used the golem from the Sophia Merchant Guild to clean the knight's dormitory at an incredible speed.

Normally, cleaning the dorm is the job of the apprentice knights. But many of the apprentices in the Grandchester Knight Order come from low-ranking noble families, so they rely completely on servants for their daily needs. This means their cleaning skills are very poor.

There are knights from commoner backgrounds, but being good enough to join the knight order means they were born into families that could afford to teach them swordsmanship. Even if they helped around the house, it was usually their mothers or sisters who did the cleaning.

As a result, most of the apprentice knights are not good at cleaning. They have a rotation system, so they have to do some cleaning, but they just gather up the trash and throw it away and maybe clean the toilets. Even the toilet cleaning is just a quick scrub with a brush.

When the female pharmacist arrived at the knight's dormitory, she hesitated to enter, saying it "smelled." It's true that some newcomers might be confused, but after a few days, they get used to the environment. Besides, when you're exhausted from training, you start to care less about dirt and smell, and all you want is to lie down on a bed.

'To back down at this level. I guess female pharmacists are no good. After all, if she's a woman, she must just be calling herself a pharmacist.'

Simon decided not to acknowledge Amelia as a pharmacist and only spoke to Paracelsus.

However, that was a mistake. Simon deeply regretted not paying more attention to Amelia. Amelia had called the golems from the Sophia Merchant Guild and a group of alchemist guild's dorm mothers, and they started cleaning the dorm without hesitation.

They barged into the shared spaces and even the knights' private rooms, ripping off sheets and pillowcases. Behind them, another lady sprayed a potion developed by alchemist guild on the bed, blankets, and pillows, while yet another lady used a magical tool on the same spots. They were using the potion to kill bugs like mites, fleas, and lice, and the magic tool was sucking up the dead bugs while drying the area.

Of course, the other ladies didn't waste any time either. While tidying up the private rooms, they wiped surfaces, scattered damp tea leaves on the floor, and then swept and mopped the floors. They showed an incredible teamwork, conquering one room after another.

Even in the knights' room, where Simon sometimes felt the need to say, "You should clean a bit," the golems suddenly moved out the furniture, and several ladies got down on the floor, scrubbing it with what seemed to be cleaner powder. After that, they applied wax and the golems returned the furniture to its original place.

Some knights were holed up in their rooms, but they were shouted at by the ladies or physically kicked out, making them leave their rooms reluctantly. The knights who came out went straight to Paracelsus for a check-up. Those who weren't infected with a fever were immediately set to leave the dorm and head to the headquarters.

After finishing the examination and confirming the infection, the knight returns to his room, but by that time, the cleaning by the old lady is already done. The room is sparkling clean, and the bed has fresh, washed sheets on it. Many knights, worried that they might dirty the bed by lying down, ask to wipe their bodies first. The old ladies prepare a basin filled with warm water and hand it to the knights along with several dry cloths.

After they are done, the golems collect the used basins, and the leftover water is poured into a large tank for the toilet. Strangely, the golems from the Sophia Merchant Guild were throwing some powder into this toilet tank. When Simon asked for an explanation, he was told that this powder is a cleaning agent for the toilet, and they were also cleaning the tank as a bonus. Simon couldn't understand it at all.

The golems diligently cleaned the toilet, pouring water into the tank without hesitation. Then, from the sewer pipe, which had been flowing a bit poorly, a gurgling sound was heard.

'I don't really get it, but it seems like they're doing something amazing.'

Simon, who was told by his cousin Benjamin that "your brain is made of muscle," doesn't try to think too hard about difficult things and has the ability to accept things as they are. All he could understand was that the toilet was getting cleaner and cleaner. Small bottles filled with potpourri were placed in each stall and by the toilet windows, filling the air with a refreshing floral scent. Because the scent was so strong, Simon started to get a headache.

'Seriously, a floral scent in the toilet? That self-proclaimed pharmacist woman must have arranged this.'

As Simon was lost in thought, the golem suddenly grabbed him and lifted him up.

"Hey, what are you doing? Let me go!"

"Mr. Simon has not yet been examined by Mr. Paracelsus. Also, you are likely running a fever."

 "Huh? I'm fine!"

However, the golem did not let Simon go and carried him in front of Rihito.

"Oh, Mr. Simon. Being caught by a golem means you have a fever, right?"

 "What do you mean?"

"I instructed this golem to prioritize bringing anyone with a fever."

"Can the golem tell a person's body temperature?"

"Yes. It can measure it very precisely. They are more accurate than the person themselves."

Then, as if it understood, the golem reported Simon's body temperature.

"Mr. Simon di Walt's current body temperature is 37.52 degrees Celsius ( 99.54 F). Considering the situation, it is highly likely to rise rapidly from now on."

"I think so too. Mr. Simon, you have contracted a fever and are already showing symptoms. Please rest in your room right away."

"Wait, am I sick with a fever?"

 "Yes."

"Is it possible that I might die?"

"If you're unlucky, that could happen. For now, please rest."

A few hours later, Simon was burning with a high fever and couldn't move from his bed. His head throbbed painfully, and breathing felt difficult, like after running full speed in training. Just a little while ago, he had been freezing cold, but now his body felt unbearably hot.

'Am I going to die? But dying in a nice room and on a bed isn't so bad. If my dad and mom come to get me, they won't have to make a disgusted face. I guess it's important to clean up regularly. Ah... but I wish someone would come to this room. If possible, I want to be seen off by someone.'

Because of the fever, Simon's thoughts were spinning aimlessly, and for some reason, tears started to flow from the corners of his eyes.

At that moment, there was a sound, and someone entered Simon's room. They moved a cart with a bowl of cold water inside and looked worriedly at Simon's face.

 "How are you feeling?"

'Oh, that's right, she's the pharmacist, Lady Amelia.'

Amelia carefully wiped Simon's face with a tightly wrung cloth and used a magical tool to check his temperature, blood pressure, and pulse.

"You have quite a high fever. Is your headache bad too?"

 "It's really painful."

Simon nodded slightly as he spoke. However, his voice was so hoarse and weak that it didn't even sound like his own.

"I'm going to sit you up a bit, is that okay? If it's too much, just let me know."

 "I think I'll be okay."

Despite her slender frame, Amelia strongly supported Simon, slowly helping him sit up. She placed pillows and cushions behind his back and quickly draped a jacket over him.

Once Simon was stable, Amelia pulled a chair closer to the bed and sat down.

"Mr. Simon, could you please open your mouth?"

When Simon opened his mouth, Amelia inserted a small stick into it and brought a small magic stone lamp closer to look inside.

"Ah. Your throat is quite swollen, isn't it? It must hurt a lot, right?"

"I wasn't paying much attention to my throat because of the bad headache. It does hurt, for sure."

 "Can you swallow water?"

"I think I should be okay."

Amelia took a sippy cup filled with oral rehydration solution from the cart and, while supporting Simon's back, slowly helped him drink.

"Please drink slowly and don't rush. Just take as much as you can."

Simon gradually swallowed the slightly sweet liquid that flowed into his mouth. His throat did hurt, but it wasn't so bad that he couldn't swallow. More than that, he realized how thirsty he really was after having some liquid.

"Oh, you finished it all. Would you like to drink a bit more?"

"If there's more, I'd love to."

"It's better to stay hydrated. By the way, Mr. Simon, I have something I want to ask you."

 "What is it?"

"Since you have a high fever, I can prescribe medicine to lower your fever and relieve your headache and throat pain. However, there might be side effects, so it's up to you if you want to take it."

"Please prescribe it. The pain is so bad I feel like I want to throw my head away."

 "Understood. Please wait a moment."

Amelia took out a packet of acetaminophen from the cart.

"It's a powder medicine, but can you take it? I also have a sweetened liquid version."

"I'm not a child, so I'll be fine with just water."

 "I apologize for that."

The moment Amelia smiled at Simon, he felt his heart skip a beat. Amelia opened the medicine packet herself and helped Simon take the medicine, using the oral rehydration solution in the sippy cup to help him swallow it.

"After a while, your fever should start to go down, but I'll come check on you a few times to see how you're doing for side effects."

 "I'm sorry for the trouble."

"Don't worry about it. I'm a pharmacist, after all. More importantly, it seems like you should clean up and change your clothes. Would it be okay if I help you with that? I think you might need help with the bathroom too."

"Uh, well... it's a bit hard to ask a young lady for that."

"Then I'll call the knight apprentice to help you later."

 "Thank you."

Then Amelia made Simon drink some oral rehydration solution and said, "Take care," before leaving the room.

After a while, a young knight apprentice visited Simon's room. He wiped Simon's body, changed the bed sheets, and took the contents of the potty after Simon used it.

Lying back down in bed, Simon started to think, 'Maybe it would have been okay to have Lady Amelia wipe me down...'

 Then he suddenly realized.

'Wait, did Lady Amelia wipe down other knights besides me!?'

Realizing this possibility made Simon feel quite uncomfortable. However, as the medicine started to work, he was hit by a strong wave of sleepiness and fell asleep. Just before he drifted off, he dreamed of Amelia gently touching his body with a kind smile.

Later that night, when Amelia stopped by Simon's room to check on him, she found him looking very happy as he slept, the medicine having worked and his fever down. Amelia smiled softly, wiped the sweat from his face and neck, and then quietly left.
