Chapter 337 Fever Illness Countermeasure Meeting Iv
"Please wait. Mr. Paracelsus. Did you just say there's a treatment for fever?"
Bernard, the Guild Manager of the Pharmacist Guild, asked nervously.
"Yes. That's correct."
"What!?"
With just that, Bernard slumped down in his chair in the meeting room, looking completely drained. The shock was too much for him.
"Bernard, is a treatment for fever really that amazing?"
Sara asked Bernard, pretending to be innocent.
"Until now, there has been no treatment for fever itself; we could only manage symptoms. But if it can be treated with medicine, we could save many people."
"I see. But if only Mr. Paracelsus can make it, wouldn't it be pointless to share it?"
"--No, Miss Sara. This medicine is not made with magic. Any pharmacist or alchemist who has graduated from the academy should be able to make it."
"Then why didn't my great-grandfather make this treatment public, Mr. Paracelsus?"
"Probably because there wasn't enough clinical testing, and at that time, it was hard to get the materials. He might have worried about conflicts arising from making it public."
"Is it really that rare of a material?"
"It was back then. Actually, it's relatively easy to obtain now."
"What do you need?"
"Stellaanis."
"Um... is that the spice?"
"Yes, exactly. The rest are all things that can be found within Avalon."
Sara turned to Sophia.
"Sophia, please arrange the import of Stellaanis right away. It will probably go up in price soon."
"Understood."
'Hey, Rihito. You should have told me that information earlier!'
Sara felt a bit anxious about the news she just learned, and her tail slipped out slightly. However, no one noticed her tail because everyone from the Commerce Guild, including Kojimo, and members of the Alchemist Guild and Pharmacist Guild were all in a panic.
The only exception should have been the Adventurers Guild, but they were too busy thinking about what other herbs they needed to make healing potions. There was a high chance it would lead to new gathering requests for the adventurers.
"For now, Mr. Paracelsus, I fully allow the sharing of that knowledge. Is that alright with you, Grandfather?"
"I have no objections."
"Mr. Paracelsus, I heard that the clinical trials are not sufficient. Should we arrange for them?"
At that moment, Jeffrey, the leader of the Grandchester Knights, spoke up.
"Miss Sara. Could we please conduct the clinical trials at the Grandchester Knights' dormitory? There has already been a group infection, and yesterday, Mr. Paracelsus and Lady Amelia from Maiden's Tower were treating the patients."
"I see. I can't make that decision, but what do you think, Mr. Paracelsus?"
"If possible, I would like to request it from here. Of course, it will only be for the knights who are willing to cooperate with the clinical trials."
"Of course."
Alexander also stood up.
"Mr. Paracelsus, if possible, please let me conduct the clinical trial at my clinic. We already have more than ten patients with a fever."
"That's fine, but please make sure to get the patients' consent. Clinical trials should not be forced on anyone."
"Of course. I am not a pharmacist who forces human experiments."
"I understand. I apologize for my rude comment. If that's the case, should we ask Lady Amelia for help?"
Rihito called out to Amelia, who was sitting nearby.
"Me?"
"I already have the medicine, so I will start the clinical trial today. I can share the recipe for the medicine right away, but it will take time to produce. First, please try to make it at the Pharmacist Guild. In the meantime, I will teach Lady Amelia how to conduct the trial, and once she learns, she can help Mr. Alexander at his clinic. Since Lady Amelia is Mr. Alexander's apprentice, things should go smoothly."
"Understood. Then, I look forward to your guidance starting today."
Amelia respectfully bowed her head to Rihito.
"Did you call the Adventurers Guild to gather herbs for the medicine?"
Jean asked Rihito.
"No, I called the Adventurers Guild for a different reason. Of course, gathering herbs for the medicine would be great, but I wasn't sure if Miss Sara would allow it."
Of course, Rihito's statement was also a lie. Conducting the clinical trial at the knight's dormitory was already planned. Requesting the Adventurers Guild to gather herbs had also been decided among the bureaucrats.
"Then, what is the matter?"
"Some nutritional supplements contain ingredients other than plants. Ah, of course, there are also plants, so I will request for those to be gathered, but more than that, I want to make a hunting request."
"Please list the specific prey and the necessary parts. There are more adventurers getting sick with the fever, so we might not be able to gather enough people right away."
"Those who are interested will have the right to participate in the clinical trials for the fever treatment medicine. If that increases the number of requests, then it's worth it."
"I see. If there are family or acquaintances with the fever, it might be a good deal."
"However, there is a limit to the number of people we can accept, so it will be first come, first served."
"Understood."
As the guild members were buzzing in the meeting room, Edward spoke up.
"Father, should we keep this information within the Grandchester territory for now?"
"What should we do? It's likely that there will be more fever patients in other territories and the royal capital as well. However, it seems we can't quickly set up a system to save so many people."
"But we can't just not report this to His, can we?"
"Your Excellency Marquis Grandchester, I won't hide anything poorly."
Sophia smiled sweetly as she expressed her opinion to the Marquis and Young Marquis.
"Please tell me your reason."
"It will probably be found out soon anyway. We can't silence everyone involved. If we hide it poorly, we might incur the displeasure of His Majesty the King. It might be better to publicly share Mr. Paracelsus's recipe with the royal family for free, so that the Grandchester family can gain some fame."
"I see. But as my father said, the number of patients with the fever will likely increase in the future. What should we do then?"
"How about we share recipes for oral rehydration solutions and nutritional supplements, along with explanations on how to prevent and deal with the fever?"
"But we might be asked for a treatment drug."
"It would be good to say it's still in clinical trials. That's not a lie. Plus, since we'll be sharing the recipe for the treatment drug, they can make it themselves if needed."
"And the Sophia Merchant Guild is making a fortune in Stella Annis, huh?"
"Well, Your Excellency the Young Marquis, doesn't that make me sound like a shady merchant?"
"Whether you're shady or not, you are certainly a unique merchant."
"I'll take that as a compliment."
Bang, bang!
Marquis Grandchester slammed the desk again, silencing the members.
"It seems the meeting has mostly come to a conclusion. Each of you will decide on the details. Edward and I must head to the royal capital. Therefore, I will leave this matter to Robert."
"Understood, Father."
"Paracelsus, I'm sorry, but could you prioritize supplying medicines to the knight order?"
"It would be better to ask the Alchemist Guild and the Pharmacist Guild for that. I don't want anyone taking the treatment drug in places I can't see; there might be unexpected side effects."
"I see. Understood."
Thus, the long meeting about fever countermeasures that started early in the morning came to an end.
