chapter 361 Hit

Chapter 361 Hit

Since they couldn't put more burden on Marg and Millie, who were just recovering, they left the guest room in Maria and Thomashiina's hands. It seemed like a habit now; without anyone saying anything, they naturally headed to the second floor of the library and sat down in their favorite chairs or sofas.

"Uncle Edward, is there any change in the plans to go to the capital?"

"I'm worried about Adam, but my schedule is also quite tight. Liz, I'm sorry, but can I ask you to take care of the kids?"

"I'm fine with it, but Chloe might not agree."

 "Why is that?"

"There's a tea party hosted by a famous dressmaker in the capital. Many young ladies who are debuting will attend, so Chloe will probably want to join."

"But it would be impossible without Liz accompanying her, right?"

 Elizabeth turned to Sara.

"Sara, could Sophia take my place and accompany Chloe?"

"Sophia is a commoner, and isn't she a bit weak for Chloe's chaperone?"

"Most of the attendees will be young ladies and their escorts, so it should be fine. Plus, it's a good opportunity for Sophia to debut in the capital. There will be many potential future clients there."

"That sounds wonderful. But since it's hosted by the dressmaker, does that mean we have to wear the dresses they sell?"

"Sure, there are many women like that, but there are no clear rules. In fact, it wouldn't be a problem if Sophia wore a stunning dress as the organizer. No woman dares to openly express her opinion as a representative of the Grandchester Young Marquis. I think it would be fine if Sara join too. I'm sure the Lady of Duke Arbal will help with the planning for Sara's birthday party."

"Isn't it okay not to go through Aunt Elizabeth? Also, is it really fine for my mother not to be present at the social event in the capital?"

"Of course, I plan to fully cooperate, but when it comes to arranging the venue, we can't compete with the Duke Arbal family. If things go well, they might lend us one of the royal palaces as a venue. As for the escort, Revi hasn't officially become Sara's mother yet, so that's fine. Rather, if she acts as an escort before marriage, people might suspect Sara is Revi's secret child."

"That's complicated. I really see how amazing Aunt Elizabeth is when it comes to social events."

"Sara, that's an opinion that can't be ignored as a governess."

"Revi doesn't really like social events, so it's natural that she's not good at them, right? Even for me, I don't think it would have gone well without the influence of the Grandchester family. Still, I can't compare to the late Marquis's wife."

Elizabeth let out a small sigh, and Edward spoke up.

"I think Liz is doing well."

"Do you really think so? Sara over there has been saying terrible things about me, calling me an elitist."

"I'm sorry, Aunt. I went too far."

'Well, humans get hurt when they hear the truth, after all.'

Even though she was thinking terrible things inside, Sara kept a cheerful smile on her face. It was thanks to Rebecca's lady-like education.

"Well, I won't deny that I've acted in ways that deserve to be criticized. This whole Adam situation has made me think a lot."

"But once he was out of our hands, Adam changed a lot, didn't he? I think that change is amazing. Did you know, Liz? Adam sold my dagger to buy blankets and food for Marg and the others."

"Wait, you mean that dagger you got from father-in-law?"

"Yeah. It was the first weapon I ever received, so I took care of it every day. He went to buy blankets and food for Marg and the others, but it seems he didn't have enough money. So, he had to trade the dagger he had at his waist."

 "Wow..."

"But when the shopkeeper tried to clean it and noticed the Grandchester family crest, he panicked and brought it all the way to Grandchester Castle. He said he couldn't accept it back."

"I guess you'll have to pay that shopkeeper extra."

"I already paid him ten times the amount Adam received. Honestly, he's a good shopkeeper."

'Hoho, that's some good information. I should look into that shop too. Honest trading partners are hard to find.'

"Father, Mother, please stop talking about me so loudly. It's really embarrassing. Sara and Scott, stop grinning and looking over here!"

Adam came out of the room with a red face. It seemed he had heard the conversation.

 "W-well, I was surprised!"

"That Adam sold a treasure for his friends, right? He's such a great guy!?"

"I'm not the one with a bad personality, am I?!"

"Well, you did push me into the pond and didn't even call for help, so yeah, that's pretty bad."

"Ugh, I'm sorry. But isn't Sara the one with the worse personality?"

"How rude! I just have a good personality. If you keep saying annoying things, I might spill the beans about how you bullied me or Adam's underwear collection to Marg!"

 "Wha──?!"

"By the way, I've always wanted to ask. What's this Adam's underwear collection? It comes up sometimes."

 "Well, Scott, that's..."

"Waaaaah, Sara! I'm really sorry from the bottom of my heart!"

 Adam hurriedly bowed deeply.

"But isn't Scott not that bad?"

"It's better to show weakness to fewer people."

"Isn't it too late for Scott? Besides, maybe guys can understand each other?"

 "Is that so?"

As Sara explained Adam's underwear collection to Scott, he nodded.

"I can kind of understand, but I don't think I'd want anyone's. It doesn't make sense unless they're being worn, right?"

"Well, I do choose the owner, you know."

"Adam! For a Grandchester guy, you sure are fickle!"

"If you're saying that, Uncle Robert was also all over the place before he got engaged."

"──Hey, don't drag me into this!"

Robert, who was hit by the stray bullet, was left battered under Rebecca's cold gaze.

"Give it up, Rob. You brought this on yourself."

"But, Ed, you're lucky. Mother set you up with the girl you like."

"But I properly proposed to Liz!"

"That's obvious. It's thanks to our mother inviting Liz over so many times."

"But mother called Revi too, you know. I didn't just go around escorting all those young ladies."

The stray shots from Adam and Scott turned into a messy fight between 2 grown men. Elizabeth and Rebecca watched them with exasperated looks, while the kids silently observed the embarrassing argument between the adults with blank expressions.

"By the way, Liz. Did Ed really propose to you himself?"

"Well, he did. He said, 'Let's get married. Your mother would be happy about it'."

"What's that? That's as bad as Rob."

 "What did Rob say?"

"The words were normal. He just said, 'Will you marry me?' But he suddenly said it after leaving me hanging for years, so I asked him why. He replied, 'Because Sara said that if I adopt her, she won't have a mother.' It made me feel really miserable."

 "That's worse than Ed."

"Revi, how did you even agree to marry such my foolish brother?"

Elizabeth and Edward sent sympathetic glances to Rebecca, and everyone started blaming Rob at once.

"Basically, don't you think Grandchester guys just don't say what they really feel?"

"I told Revi I love her later on!"

"Hmm. In that case, you might be better than my Ed. I always thought I wasn't loved by Ed because of our arranged marriage."

"Well, if that's what he said in his proposal..."

"I did express my feelings properly!"

"That was just recently, though. It's been over 15 years since we got married, you know?"

 "That's... I'm sorry."

Watching this, Scott turned to Sara and shouted loudly.

 "I like Sara, you know!"

 "Sorry, Scott..."

"Ah, you don't need to say more. I'm not giving up for now, Sara."

"──Hey Scott. Are you really okay with Sara? She's got quite the personality, you know?"

"I think that's part of what makes her cute and charming, Adam."

 "I don't get your tastes."

"I don't really understand Adam's tastes either. By the way, do you like Meg?"

 "Meg?"

"Oh right, you call her Marg. I'm talking about Margaret Grandchester."

"Well, I thought Marg was a guy. I still can't believe Marg is a girl. I'm shocked that it was kept a secret."

 Adam slumped his shoulders sadly.

"It seems like it was to survive in the slums. I don't know if you know this, but Meg is a really beautiful girl. You understand that it's not easy for kids, especially girls, to protect themselves in a place like that, right?"

Scott stood up and walked over to Adam's chair, giving Adam's shoulder a light pat.

"I get it. I understand, but still, I wish my best friend had confided in me. In the end, I guess Marg didn't trust me. Maybe I was the only one who thought we were best friends."

"Everyone has their secrets. You kept the fact that you're the eldest son of the Young Marquis a secret too, right, Adam? Marg seemed to have an idea but kept quiet about it. Only Marg knows what she was thinking. You should really listen to her. Even if Marg didn't trust Adam, the feelings Adam had when he begged me to help Marg and Millie were real, right?"

Sara also moved closer to Adam and spoke softly. Then Adam said.

"Yes, Sara. Marg is really a good girl. The reason I wasn't trusted is that I'm unreliable. I'm not as smart as Marg, and I'm weaker in fights..."

"Wait, Adam. Did you lose to Meg?"

"I've never fought Marg directly, but she totally wrecked the guy who hit me, you know?"

"Seriously? So what my father said was true after all."

 "What do you mean?"

"My father says Meg is similar to Great-aunt Elena. Not in looks, but in personality."

"Great-aunt Elena? You mean the former Mrs. Count Harrington? The legendary woman who chopped off the heads of bandits who attacked her carriage with a greatsword?"

"Yeah, he said their personalities are alike. If she's strong in fights, she must have the magic for physical enhancement."

 "Wow, Marg is amazing."

'So Marg is strong. Once she recovers, maybe she can practice swordsmanship and sparring with me.'

"Adam, you better not lose. If you don't train your body, you'll end up with a belly like Sir Robert, you know?"

 "Ah, I don't want that."

"──Do you guys have to hit me with stray shots all the time?!"

Rebecca pinched Robert's belly, which was already teary-eyed, as if to finish him off.

"This is pretty bad. Let's do some light exercise before work tomorrow."

For Rebecca, "light exercise" means training for one to 2 hours with jogging, swordsmanship, and martial arts, but at this moment, Robert still hasn't realized that.
