Chapter 373 Is That What Fairies Are Like?
Mike noticed that Sara's mood had changed, so he turned off the video and sat back on her shoulder.
"Sara, are you feeling better?"
"Just a little. I understood that I was loved, but looking back, I also realized how immature my parents were."
"That's right! If it weren't for Adelia, you would have starved to death too!"
It seemed that Adelia's actions were unforgivable to Mike.
"Thank you, Mike. I know it sounds odd for an 8-year-old, but if I were to include memories of my previous life, I feel like my parents were too immature. Maybe they were so caught up in their love that they didn't involve others enough. Because of that, they felt they had to run away together. It’s like how young people can be a bit foolish. From Chizen and Raska's view, my parents probably looked like just another couple of rich kids."
Sara managed to avoid sounding like someone from a famous quote just in time. The urge to express herself was hard to control, making her back feel itchy, but she tried not to think about it.
Suddenly, a small leopard named Sedrick jumped lightly onto the window, wearing a strange expression that made it look like he was grinning, despite being a leopard.
"I've been watching humans for many years, and I find it strange that children often don't see their parents as just people. Some kids think it's fine to be spoiled and act selfishly, while others treat their parents like gods. They forget that parents are also human and have both good and bad qualities. On the other hand, many parents see their children as possessions. Even though they are of different ages, they all share the same humanity. It's easy for both sides to forget the most important part of their relationship: to respect each other."
"Well, I can't deny that. When you live away from your parents for a while and then go back home, you start to see them from a third-person perspective, like 'Oh, I remember they were like this' or 'They've gotten older,' and you realize again that your parents are different people from you."
Mike and Pochi looked at each other.
"Hey, Sara, you're looking more and more like an old man."
"Don't let Sedrick influence you. You'll lose your youth."
"Isn't that a bit rude? Besides, Mike became a fairy before I did. It's not an exaggeration to say you're an elder among fairies."
"Hey! That makes me sound like a grandma!"
"Calling you a grandma when you're a genderless fairy is just funny."
"What did you say! Then Sedrick, you should try becoming a female human form!"
"That's an easy task for me."
There stood a tall, slender beauty. She wore a long black dress that was cut deep enough to show off her cleavage. The tight skirt had a high slit on the side, revealing her long legs in high heels. Preferences may vary, but she gave off a more beautiful and alluring vibe than when Mike and Pochi took human forms.
"How about that dress?"
"Do you need a beauty mark by your eye?"
"Of course! It's an important charm point."
Sedrick, with a cool expression, responded to Mike and Pochi's teasing. Sedrick's voice was slightly low, but it was clearly feminine.
However, while the fairies were making a loud fuss and fighting, Sara calmly spoke to Sedrick.
"Sedrick... are you not just peeping but also gathering information as a high-class courtesan?"
"Fairies have no gender."
"With that impressive chest, you definitely have a female body, right?"
"Well, I wonder how you figured that out."
"Because I saw the little leopards from behind. You definitely have 2 nice ones hanging there. If you can become male, then you can become female too. By the way, have you ever used both?"
"That's quite a question to ask."
"I feel like you wouldn't hesitate to gather information for a honey trap."
"It seems you've seen through me. I can't deny it."
Sedrick turned her gaze to Mike and Pochi.
"Mike, Pochi, do you also take female forms when you become human?"
"It depends on the situation."
"Yeah, sometimes we end up with ears and tails still attached."
"I'm not asking about that. Have you ever been with a human?"
"Not just humans, you know."
"There are fairies who bond with humans too."
Sara felt like she had touched a truth she didn't want to know, and she started to feel gloomy. Fairies were lighter than she had thought.
"Surely, you can't have kids, right?"
"We can't. We're just beings made of magical energy. Haven't you heard stories about people spending a fleeting night with a fairy?"
"Those kinds of books aren't allowed for me to read."
"Oh, I forgot. You're still 8 years old, Sara."
"Mike, was it okay to tell an 8-year-old this?"
"Well, Sara asked, so what could I do? Just so you know, unlike Sedrick, I'm not really into that kind of stuff, okay? I just enjoy a brief meeting with someone I get along with."
And then Sara made a very serious expression.
"Sedrick, can you be in a male form next time?"
"Huh?!"
Sara's outrageous statement surprised the fairies.
"I understand most of the mechanics, but I think it would be more reliable to see it in action."
"Is this for Sir Adam's treatment?"
"Exactly. I'll try to regenerate someone who got hurt, but I still think seeing the real thing is more certain. It's hard to ask a human male, but with a fairy, I wouldn't mind as much. Oh, and if possible, I'd like it to be a boy around 14 years old."
"I was foolish to have expectations."
"Sedrick is definitely foolish. Sara just said she's still 8 years old."
"You can't forget your real age just because you're becoming Sophia."
"I'll just have to wait patiently."
"I'm sorry, Sedrick. I'm straight, so I'm not attracted to that look, and even in a male form, it seems suspicious, so it's not my type."
"You can change my appearance, right?"
"When I think about it being you, Sedrick... it's a bit much..."
As Sara placed her hand on her cheek and tilted her head, the beautiful Sedrick slumped down, looking dejected.
"Oh, but that dress looks pretty good. Can you stand close to me in female form when you try to play it?"
"So you want me to get excited over you, huh?"
"Sedrick... that sounds really old-fashioned. It's a shame, considering you're a beauty."
Looking at Sara, who had a big smile, Sedrick felt even more down. A fairy being told they were disappointing by a girl who was also disappointing... it was quite a surreal scene.
Mike, who floated lightly from Sara's shoulder, and Pochi, who was drifting nearby, both transformed into human forms at the same time. Together, they formed a lineup of different types of beauties.
"Sara, come over here too."
Sara, who had changed into Sophia's form to taste the wine, didn't look out of place surrounded by the fairy beauties.
"If Thomashiina were here, we could probably sweep away the flower princesses of the royal capital by ourselves."
"I certainly don't feel like we would lose."
Sedrick puffed out her chest even more.
"How about we sell our portraits?"
"I don't feel like losing, but I'm not keen on getting involved in the royal capital's flower competition. Becoming a Flower Princess affects their futures. Just being a candidate increases the number of nobles and wealthy people who want to take them in."
"That's true. I'll be careful."
Even Sara didn't want to affect the futures of the women in the brōtḥel.
"But when we showcase the Sophia Merchant Guild in the royal capital, can't we at least line them up?"
"Milady, let's think about it after we can actually do it. We haven't even secured a place yet. Also, don't we need to showcase the maidens?"
"That's true... There are just too many things to think about."
Then, Sedrick transformed back into a baby leopard and returned to the window, grinning.
"Stop that! If you keep smiling like that, I feel like you might disappear."
"What do you mean by that?"
"There's a cat in a story written by a guy who loves delusions from his past life."
"Is it as smart as me?"
"Hmm. It's a cat that's all over the place and almost gets its head chopped off by a queen."
"That cat gets saved, right?"
"Well, it only had a head and no body, so the soldiers didn't know how to cut it off."
"What kind of crazy story is that?"
"Don't worry about it; that's just how it is."
Then Pochi asked Sara.
"Isn't it okay to just cut it in half from the top?"
"The queen loves to chop off heads."
"I don't get it!"
"You shouldn't try too hard to understand. Just think of it as a story that came from a crazy dream I had during a nap."
"Fairies can show dreams, but they don't dream themselves."
"I see."
Sara doesn't know if it's because of the alcohol, but at least today, the fairies are generous with both conversation and magic.
'Maybe I'm still Sarasa, and I'm just in the middle of a long and bizarre dream...'
It was one of those aimless winter afternoons that made her think like that.
