Volume 1 Chapter 33 Sir Roxas Who Loves Maid Outfits, Sickly Sir Rail

When the carriage arrived at the Duke Girard family's second residence in the noble town, Sir Roxas once again froze, carrying a basket with a frozen octopus on his shoulder, and effortlessly lifted me up as he got off the carriage.

Glancing at the servants who came out to greet us, he said briefly, "Prepare the bath."

"There's a guest. My precious one. Treat her with care."

Even though Sir Roxas said that, he wasn't treating me with care at all...!

(It definitely looks like a kidnapping, and he's a suspicious person carrying both the octopus and me...)

However, it seemed that the servants of the Girard family were used to Sir Roxas's strange behavior, as they easily accepted the current situation.

"I can't let you meet my brother looking so dirty and smelly. Go take a bath and change into proper clothes."

"...That's because Sir Roxas is kidnapping me...! I was just thinking about taking a bath when you decided to kidnap me...!"

I couldn't help but argue back.

I thought to myself, "Don't get angry anymore, don't just throw complaints at men randomly," but honestly, it was frustrating.

What's up with this glasses guy?

I wonder if his glasses will explode...!

"It's not my fault for being smelly... I was helping with octopus fishing and got tangled up with the octopus...!"

"...What are you doing? You really should be in the Duke Girard family. I won't let you suffer."

"I don't want to...! Sir Roxas has been ignoring me until today...!"

"That's not because I wanted to do it. It's to keep that woman's mood up. ...Everything is for my brother."

"Well, that might be true, but..."

When I heard that said with such pain, I almost agreed, thinking, well, there's nothing I can do about it...

Francois seems to take pleasure in belittling me.

If Sir Roxas, her ex fiancé, had shown me even a little kindness, she would have been angry.

"I got wet too. After I take a bath and change, we're going to see my brother, Lydia. The ingredients will be taken to the kitchen. If there's anything missing, let me know. I'll have them buy it."

"...We have plenty of ingredients, like octopus and hijiki, so for now, we need to eat the octopus while it's fresh..."

"That octopus was wrapped around you, right?"

"Does Sir Rail eat a lot?"

"He hardly eat anymore. ...But your cooking will be like medicine. I intend to make you feed him, even if it's a struggle."

"...I-I can't handle such high expectations, you know."

Even if everyone from Saintwise and Sir Ciel got better, it might just be a coincidence.

To be expected to save his sick brother...

I want to help if I can, but still...

"Lydia. ...I definitely have expectations for your cooking. I have expectations, but even if your cooking doesn't have any special power, as long as my brother can eat a little, that's enough for me."

 "...Sir Roxas."

The servants took Sir Roxas's carrying basket and carried it somewhere.

I was carried by Sir Roxas and then set down, and the maids took me to the bathroom.

As expected from the Duke's family mansion, the bathroom was really spacious.

The bathtub was filled with warm water, and it smelled nice.

Before I knew it, my clothes were taken off, and my whole body, including my hair, was being washed.

I said I could do it myself, but the maids insisted, "Since you are a special guest of Sir Roxas."

After being cleaned from head to toe, I sank into the water and let out a deep sigh.

Then I suddenly remembered and hurriedly opened my mouth.

"My apron has something important in it...! It's a big, jewel-like charm, and it's really special...!"

I worried about what would happen if they threw away my wet and slippery clothes.

The jewel I got from Sir Ciel felt like a sign of friendship and was a strong charm for me.

Seeing me panic, one of the maids said, "Don't worry. We'll wash and dry your clothes and return them, and we'll give the charm back to Lady Lydia."

After my bath, I was covered in scented oil, and I felt like a piece of meat being prepared.

Sometimes, you rub seasoning on meat, right?

They dried my hair and tied it up in a bun.

Then, while looking a bit apologetic, the maid said, "Actually... since you are a special guest, a more beautiful dress would be better," and helped me into a maid's outfit.

"I think it's a sin to dress the young lady in a maid's outfit... but you look very cute, Lady Lydia."

"I'm not a young lady... but thank you."

The maids, probably out of courtesy, praised my appearance, so I thanked them.

I wore a knee-length skirt and white socks. The maid outfit was brown with a white apron. And then, there was a headpiece with a ribbon.

Looking beautiful, I was──no matter how you looked at it, the new maid of the Duke Girard family.

I was going to cook soon, so it was good that I could move easily.

Also, since I wasn't used to wearing dresses, the maid outfit was actually more comfortable.

One of the maids brought me the jewels that Sir Ciel had given me, so I put them in the pocket of my new white apron.

When I came out of the bathroom, Sir Roxas was already waiting, looking refreshed after changing his clothes. He was leaning against the wall.

 "...Lydia. ...You look good."

 "Y-yes. This outfit feels nice."

"I hope you stay with me for a long time. ...As my, um, servant."

"...Sir Roxas, you don't mean you have a hobby of making kidnapped girls into servants, do you?"

Could it be that the maids were also forced to become servants?

Sir Ciel is not a pervert anymore, so Sir Roxas must be the real pervert.

 "I don't have such a hobby...!"

 "O-oh, is that so...?"

You don't have to deny it so earnestly.

Led by Sir Roxas, I headed to the room where Sir Rail was resting.

In the spacious room on the second floor with big windows, Sir Rail was resting on the bed.

This was the first time I had seen someone with the white moon disease.

I knew about the disease and its name from my school lessons.

Using a large stack of cushions as a backrest, Sir Rail sat up to rest. As I knew from the symptoms of the White Moon Disease, his skin was pale and almost transparent, and his hair was not the silver of Sir Roxas, but a pure white like fresh snow.

His eyelashes were white, and only his eyes were the same golden color as Sir Roxas's.

Being twins, their faces looked very similar, but the wrists peeking out from his white hospital gown were so thin they seemed like just skin and bones.

His handsome features were gaunt, and his lips were dry.

 "Brother... how are you feeling?"

"...Ah, it's you, Roxas. I'm okay, not too bad. It will be soon. I promise, I won't be a burden to you much longer."

When Sir Roxas spoke hesitantly, Sir Rail smiled slightly and replied.

"Don't say such things... I brought Lydia. You know her, right? She's the holy priestess from the Rest family who can cook dishes with miraculous powers."

 Sir Roxas lied.

I tugged at Sir Roxas's clothes, but seeing Sir Rail's fragile appearance, I couldn't raise my voice to say otherwise.
