Volume 1 Chapter 51 The Demon King's Sausage Bread And Sir Ciel's New Home
Lobelia Diner House is usually closed on Wednesdays.
Other than that, it depends on my mood, but since Mx. Margaret also takes Wednesdays off, I decided to do the same.
So, on my day off, I woke up late.
After getting ready, I sipped tea while daydreaming, and as I looked at a flyer for a mushroom picking event in the empty restaurant, Sir Ciel arrived.
"Ms. Lydia, good morning. Sorry to bother you on your day off."
"Sir Ciel! Good morning. It's okay, I didn't have any plans and was just daydreaming."
"Daydreaming?"
"Um, yes... I mean, daydreaming. Sir Ciel, don't you ever daydream?"
I stood up and quickly walked to the kitchen, bringing a cup for Sir Ciel.
I poured hot water from the kettle into the teapot and made tea for Sir Ciel.
"You don't seem like the type to daydream. You always look like you're thinking about something serious."
"Does it look that way?"
"Um, yes. Since you and Mr. Lucian are adults, I thought you must have a lot on your minds."
Sir Ciel politely thanked me, saying, "Thank you for making tea for me, even though I came by unexpectedly."
Then, he sat across from me at the table.
"Lucian?"
"Yes. Mr. Lucian came to the shop yesterday after a long time, but he didn't seem well."
"I see. After all, recently, Lady Francois has been coming up with more ideas, and it seems like the Holy Knights are being tossed around because of it."
"That's true. He said there have been more visits to orphanages and nursing homes... Oh, Sir Ciel, are you going to have breakfast? I'm just about to. I was thinking of making a sandwich with the leftover bread and sausage from yesterday."
"Thank you. I'm sorry for bothering you on your day off. I will pay for it."
"Oh, um, it's fine. It's your day off, and it's leftovers... um, it's a service."
I can have a meal with my friends on my day off.
Thinking about that made me happy, and my cheeks turned red.
Sir Ciel smiled gently at my beaming face.
"If you're cooking, I'll help you."
"Y-yes...! I'm glad you haven't had breakfast yet, Sir Ciel. Mr. Leavis was worried that you weren't eating."
"I had the sausage you made the other day."
"Did you eat anything else besides the sausage?"
"Well, I had solid food and water."
"Sir Ciel... um, since I have the restaurant open, please come and eat sometime..."
I started to understand why Mr. Leavis was worried about Sir Ciel.
I took out 2 of Sir Ciel's Demon King's Sausages from the storage and lined them up in a greased frying pan.
Since they were already boiled, I just needed to heat them through and make the outside crispy, so it was pretty quick.
As the sound of the meat sizzling filled the air, a delicious aroma began to waft around.
I'm grilling sausages next to the stove, and I'm toasting some bread to hold the sausages.
The surface of the bread is slightly toasted and warm, so I cut a slit in the middle and placed it on the plate that Sir Ciel brought.
I laid down some crisp lettuce that I washed with water, and then I put the nicely grilled sausage that looks like a red demon king on top.
The sausage is big, so it sticks out a lot from the bread, but it still looks delicious.
I drizzled a little bit of the pre-made tomato sauce on top.
"Done! Here's a Spicy Demon King Large Sausage Bread for breadfast!"
"Thank you. As always, your hands are like magic. You can make a meal so quickly."
"Sir Ciel, how did you eat the sausages at home?"
"Basically, I just put them on a plate, used fire magic to grill them, and ate them. They were delicious."
"Sir Ciel, um, do you have any cooking tools at home...?"
"Not really."
I wonder if Sir Ciel is okay. Living alone, I hope he doesn't collapse or anything. I'm worried about Mr. Lucian too, but I'm also worried about Sir Ciel.
When we returned to the table, we faced each other and ate breakfast.
"Wow, it's a bit too big... It's hard to fit it in my mouth. But when I stuff my mouth full, it makes me feel happy."
Sir Ciel's sausage is too big to fit in the bread.
The taste is a bit spicy, waking me up, and it's really good.
I took a bite of the sausage, filled my mouth with the meat, chewed, and swallowed.
This way of eating isn't very lady-like, but right now I'm a chef at a restaurant, not a lady, so I guess it's okay.
Sir Ciel is looking at me with a smile while elegantly enjoying his sausage bread.
It's like the gaze of an older brother watching a little kid.
It's similar to the way he looked at Olive (Doctor's daughter).
"...I think Lucian is being swayed by His Highness and Lady Francois to cover up Ms. Lydia's rumors and rewrite his own achievements. Maybe Lady Francois felt a sense of crisis because the rumor that Ms. Lydia's cooking cured the White Moon disease is spreading."
"I-I don't want to compete with Francois..."
"Yeah, I know. That's why I'm actually hesitating."
"Hesitating?"
"I want Ms. Lydia to come to my lab. I want to know the truth about your abilities. ...But I also think it might be painful for you, Ms. Lydia."
"...Um, it's okay, I... I want to help if I can."
"Ms. Lydia..."
"So, I'll go with you. I promised to help with whatever I can."
I finished my breakfast, munching along after Sir Ciel, and drank my tea.
After washing the dishes, I got ready and left Lobelia Diner House with Sir Ciel.
The sign for today is still closed.
I locked the door to the restaurant and walked through the clear autumn town.
"By the way, the autumn festival is coming up soon."
"The autumn festival, huh?"
"Yes. There's a mushroom picking contest. Mr. Lucian hasn't been feeling well, so I promised to go with him..."
"Mushroom picking...?"
Sir Ciel tilted his head in curiosity.
Like me, he might not know much about everyday things. He always seems to be stuck in the lab, working all the time.
"Mushrooms grow at the base of trees in the forest. You pick them by gently grabbing them and pulling a little, and they come off easily. The Takeri Matsutake is called the king of mushrooms; it's delicious but expensive... It seems like there's a contest to see who can collect a lot of them."
As I explained with gestures, Sir Ciel listened with interest.
"So, I thought that if Mr. Lucian picks mushrooms in the forest, it might cheer him up."
"...Maybe I should have felt down too."
"Sir Ciel, did you say something?"
"...No. It sounds fun, Ms. Lydia. I hope you can collect a lot of those mushrooms."
"Yes...! After the festival, I'll make mushroom dishes, so please come and eat!"
I hope I can gather enough mushrooms to share with Sir Ciel.
While we were talking about this, Sir Ciel stopped in front of a large, old mansion that had been empty for a long time, said to be the most impressive in the south district.
The mansion had vines growing on its outer walls, and it looked like it hadn't been taken care of for a long time. I felt a bit uneasy about it.
I thought it might be haunted.
"We've arrived."
"This is Sir Ciel's house...?"
"I bought it recently."
"Sir Ciel... are you rich...?"
I widened my eyes and stared at Sir Ciel.
He tilted his head slightly and said, "I wonder about that. I'm not very interested in money," looking a bit troubled.
