Chapter 51 The Faceless Mother Goose

Chapter 51 The Faceless Mother Goose

Beast. A walking disaster. An enemy I can't stand.

That's the vibe I'm trying to create.

But a beast is basically like a monster. And monsters come in all shapes and sizes.

There are terrifying ones like dragons and giants that can freeze your blood, and then there are weak ones like slimes, the so-called low-level monsters.

 "Hey!"

 [Gee!?]

 "Over there!"

 [Gibya!?!?]

 "Get lost!"

 [Gi...]

As you can see, it's pretty weak. It gets knocked back really easily with just a decent punch.

It looks super scary, but why does it feel so weak?

(Hey! Did I just awaken without even realizing it!?)

No way. The main character's awakening event doesn't just happen without them knowing. The biggest moment shouldn't come this easily. So, it must be a seriously weak monster. I mean, both me and Shura are beating it up easily. Even though it made a big entrance, it honestly feels like a letdown.

 "Haah!!"

 [Gyaaa!!?]

But because of that, I feel a strong sense of unease from Shura's intense sword strikes.

 [Gebaieyae!?]

 [Gi⋯⋯GiGi]

 [Geeeee⋯⋯]

"What's wrong? Are you scared? Don't make me laugh... for a beast, you sure are bold."

What is this pressure? The killing intent is off the charts. Even though it's not aimed at me, I feel like I might freeze in place from Shura's fierce expression.

But despite how I feel, Shura is ready to take down the beast with another strike.

"Burn it, burn it, the start of red!"

 "!"

As she chants the spell, she raises her hand toward the target. Shura's long nails quickly turn orange.

"Burn to ashes... 'Claws of Ifrit'."

 [Ahhhhhh!?!?!]

 "What the... (Seriously!?!)"

As soon as she finishes the chant, red magic is complete.

The red flames that appeared from Shura's fingers mercilessly turned the black shadows into ashes.

(Low-level red magic. But to have this kind of power without a catalyst...!)

Magic is usually completed with a spell and a catalyst. But according to Quollio, there are techniques called 'chant cancellation' and 'catalyst cancellation' in magic. Both require a deep understanding of magic and advanced skills, and 'cancellation' greatly reduces the original power of the magic. And yet, this is the power we're seeing. So, Shura is not just skilled with her sword but also with magic.

 (...Isn't this clearly overkill?)

I was definitely surprised by Shura's magic skills, but more than that, it was her lack of mercy.

An unusual killing intent. Techniques filled with clear hatred.

In contrast to her usual roughness, there was a chilling coldness that left me speechless.

"Now that you stand before me, I will... kill every last one of you."

 "!"

 Yeah, I kind of knew.

I figured Shura had a strong obsession with beasts. But I never expected it to be this intense. It's like she's avenging a parent, going all out to kill the beasts.

Honestly, Shura is way scarier than the beasts.

The beasts seem to be intimidated, backing away in a panic.

 And then it happened.

 [───La──Ah──Ah──]

 ".........A song?"

I stop when I hear a woman's singing voice from somewhere.

It was so unexpected. But more than that, my body reacted to the strangeness of the voice.

The singing was clear, but it had an eerie echo, like it was coming from a cave.

 [Gyaemamaje]

 [Giiii]

 [maaaaaaa]

"What's this? The beasts are running away... What's going on here?"

 But that wasn't all.

The beasts, who were scared of Shura, suddenly started making strange noises and ran back into the forest all at once.

 "!"

"Shura, what the hell are you doing!?"

"Of course, I'm going to chase them. I won't let them escape... I'll kill every last one!"

 "!"

 Wait, how bloodthirsty is she?

Without thinking about traps or anything, Shura runs after the beasts, disappearing deeper into the forest.

She can't hear any voices telling her to stop. That guy, back when she was a rookie, was never like this. Maybe it's because she's facing a beast, but she seems totally out of control.

 "That singing voice, no way..."

"Hmph! Tou old windbag!! Get out of the way!" (You should just hide in the village!)

"Wait! You can't go deep into the forest!"

"If you've got complaints, take them up with the boar lady herself!"

Mr. Eigun tried to shout to stop me, but I couldn't just leave that girl alone like this.

If she really goes wild, she might end up burning the whole forest along with the beasts. I'm worried, but if things keep going like this, she might end up looking foolish after all that talk.

That would be bad. Really bad. I have to stop her no matter what.

Feeling a bit silly for being pushed by my own reasons, I hurried into the forest to chase after Shura.
