Volume 1 Chapter 72 When It Comes To Infiltration, Disguises Are A Must

I put the finished dishes onto a cart.

Since I didn't know how many servings we needed, I just loaded as much as I could onto the two-tiered cart.

I wheeled the cart from the kitchen out into the hallway.

"I have a good idea. After all, when it comes to infiltration, disguises are essential."

Sir Rail said, as he took off the black robes from the guards we had put to sleep outside the kitchen.

Then, we pushed all the unconscious people into the kitchen, and Sir Ciel cast a sealing magic at the entrance.

He told us that the sealing magic would wear off automatically after a few hours.

"It hides our faces perfectly, so it should work well."

Following Sir Rail's suggestion, we put on the black robes.

Since they were men's robes, they fit Sir Ciel and the others just right, but they were a bit too big for me.

It felt like a child playing ghost, with a sheet draped over my head.

With only their mouths showing from under the deep hoods, Sir Ciel and the others looked just like members of the Moon Soul Cult.

As for me, I wondered how I looked.

Would I just look like a lost child?

"Hehe, you look cute, princess. Small and adorable. If only you were wearing the cult's robes instead of my clothes, it would be perfect. I really want to hear you say, 'These are too big for me,' Roxas."

"Don't drag me into this, brother."

I didn't quite understand what was going on, but I could tell that Sir Rail and Sir Roxas were close.

Since I'm small, there's no way Sir Rail's clothes would fit me properly.

And I wasn't sure where to take the food.

For now, I decided to go in the direction I came from, which seemed like the entrance, and as I moved deeper inside, I passed by a few people in black robes.

Sir Ciel calmly asked, "I would like to bring a meal to His Highness. Where can I find him?" They replied, "Right now, there's a meeting about the invasion of the capital. Go further in from here, and you'll find them in the conference room on the left with the executives."

To avoid being noticed because of my small size, Sir Roxas and Sir Rail hid me behind them.

Without raising any suspicion, we were able to carry the food to the conference room.

"Lucian and I know each other. To reduce the chance of being noticed, please don't make any noise while we carry the food, Ms. Lydia."

 "Yes...!"

I nodded at Sir Ciel's words.

 My heart was racing.

I felt like my heart might jump out of my mouth from the tension.

Has anything like this ever happened before?

Even when I was in the corner of the Rest priest's house, or living quietly in the school dorm, or after opening the restaurant,

I had many experiences, but I had lived a life far from any danger that threatened my life.

I'm not good with change, I'm passive, and I never did anything on my own besides cooking.

But now, knowing Mr. Lucian's situation──I just can't sit still and do nothing.

I dragged Sir Ciel and the others into my selfishness, but still──

 It feels reassuring.

I knocked on the impressive and heavy door that seemed to lead to the conference room, compared to the other doors.

"Who is it?" a voice asked from inside. "I brought food," Sir Rail replied.

Sir Rail hasn't met Mr. Lucian yet. So, it's up to Sir Rail to respond.

The door opened, and I was told to "come in."

At the long table, about 5 men were sitting.

They all wore similar black robes and white masks.

The masks were creepy, with only black slits for the eyes and mouth, making it hard to tell who was who.

In the center sat Mr. Lucian.

Mr. Lucian didn't look at us; he leaned on the table with his elbows, hands clasped, and his eyes downcast.

(Mr. Lucian... looks like he's in pain)

When Mr. Lucian was in the knight order, he always seemed happy.

 But──was that just an act?

Maybe he has been suffering all along. No matter what he did, he felt pain.

I can understand a little. I know about suffering and sadness. When I realized I was all alone, it suddenly took over my heart like a monster attacking.

I couldn't do anything but cry or get angry.

I quietly placed a plate of mashed potatoes and meatballs with cranberry jam in front of Mr. Lucian.

I set a fork and spoon on the napkin.

After looking at the food in surprise, Mr. Lucian grabbed my arm tightly.

 "...You."

When Mr. Lucian spoke to me, I looked down, holding my hood with my hand so he couldn't see my face.

 I shouldn't make a sound.

His grip on my arm hurt.

"...Did that child do something rude?"

When Sir Rail asked, Mr. Lucian lightly shook his head and let go of my hand.

"On this memorable day, when we have finally decided to raise the signal of rebellion, to serve the beloved dishes of our homeland, you truly understand."

The man in the robe spoke.

His rough, low voice belonged to the one who attacked me in Fetoru Forest.

"I have long awaited your return, Your Highness. Twenty years ago, the Bernard people poisoned the underground waterways of Kirschtein, causing great suffering to many. How despicable and cowardly it was. King Zeere invaded Kirschtein and destroyed the royal family. You, the last remaining are our hope. The time to rebuild the royal family has finally come."

I asked Sir Roxas to collect the empty bottles while Sir Ciel, Sir Rail, and I poured wine into glasses.

Raising our glasses, the man spoke.

Among us, he might be the second most important after Mr. Lucian.

Mr. Lucian had been watching me closely since I finished preparing all the meals and stood by the wall.

I felt like he noticed me, but Mr. Lucian said nothing.

"...Today, let us give thanks for the meal to the Moon Queen Sylphina."

Mr. Lucian said the pre-meal greeting.

It seems that the people of Kirschtein truly worship the red moon witch Sylphina.

I clasped my hands in front of my chest and pressed my lips together.

The Bernard Kingdom must have done terrible things to the people of Kirschtein.

The man in the robe said that 20 years ago, they poisoned the waterways.

 I think it's terrible.

But──I hate fighting. I want to do something about it. I want to think of a way to solve things without hatred or malice, so that no one gets hurt or loses their life.

So please── I want to heal sad hearts and painful feelings, even just a little.

If I have the power to do that, please──.

 "...Delicious."

Mr. Lucian, with red jam and white sauce on his meat, murmured softly.

His beautiful sky-blue eyes glistened, and a tear rolled down his cheek.
