Volume 3 Chapter 32 The Visit Of The Snowman And Sir Ciel
Eir-Eir, Ms. Famine, and Dad were all around me, like warm, cozy animals. I woke up in the afternoon, feeling all snuggly, and thought about going back to sleep.
The soft bed was so tempting, and I couldn't resist the warmth of Eir-Eir and Ms. Famine sleeping next to me.
I felt super lazy, but I was enjoying this rare lazy day.
I decided to stop thinking about Dad being a handsome adult man.
He's just Dad, and he's a dog, so it's fine.
It would be sad if only Dad didn't get to sleep with us while Eir-Eir and Ms. Famine were together.
The bells from the church towers in every direction rang to announce noon.
"Lunch... it's already lunch, my blanket..."
"Pumpkin pudding."
"Tarte Tatin."
Eir-Eir and Ms. Famine playfully tapped my face, which was all snuggled up in the blanket like a little caterpillar.
"Come on, wake up, Lydia. It's already noon."
"Ugh... just a little longer. It's cold today, really cold..."
"Well, of course it's cold; it's snowing."
"Snow...!"
I had a feeling it might snow.
Last night was super chilly, and the thick snow clouds covered the sky, hiding the stars and the moon.
I peeked out from under the blanket and looked out the window.
Sure enough, it was white outside.
Snowflakes were gently falling and piling up a little on the window sill.
"Snow!"
"Pumpkin, pudding..."
"Tarte Tatin..."
Eir-Eir looked curious, blinking her eyes.
Ms. Famine, on the other hand, seemed really annoyed and burrowed deeper into the blanket.
She snuggled into my clothes, and the soft fur tickled my skin a bit.
"Eir-Eir, do you not know about snow? Ms. Famine, you seem to dislike the cold."
"Tarte Tatin..."
"Pumpkin."
"I don't like the cold either."
"Even though you're fluffy?"
"Fluffy or not, cold is still cold."
I picked up Eir-Eir and Ms. Famine in my arms and went downstairs.
Dad followed us, his little claws making a cute sound on the floor as he walked.
He was wearing a fluffy, light pink, thick pajama outfit, but the chilly air from the snow seemed to gather around my feet.
I boiled some water and made cocoa.
Recently, Lobelia has been really quiet because it's been closed for a while.
Sometimes, customers come by to check on me and bring me treats.
While sipping my cocoa, I nibbled on some tea cookies that were given to me.
I warmed up some milk for Eir-Eir, Ms. Famine, and Dad.
Eir-Eir drank it eagerly, but Ms. Famine licked the milk with her little tongue and tapped the plate, looking unhappy, saying "Tarte Tatin.".
"Ms. Famine doesn't like the dish, huh? Maybe I should buy some cute dishes for cats..."
"I'm also thinking about it, Lydia. Should I turn back into a human when it's time to eat?"
"Dad, if you turn human, you'll be n*ked, so that's a bit..."
"I can turn human while wearing clothes too."
"Really? I thought you were always n*ked."
"That was because I was in the bath."
"But being cute is better. Dogs are cute. Men are not cute..."
"Even as an adult man, I'm still cute."
"Are you really cute...?"
I'm not sure if he is cute.
Just washing my face and not changing while having breakfast or lunch feels nice.
I don't hate waking up early to go to the market, and I enjoy cooking for the customers, of course.
"If I keep being lazy, I might melt like a jellyfish."
"Jellyfish."
"Pumpkin."
"Tarte..."
The cocoa is sweet and delicious. The tea cookies smell really good.
Even though it's snowing, I wonder if Mr. Tsukuyomi's Whale No. 1 and Hyomon are okay.
The sea must be cold.
"Shall we go see the snow?"
After finishing our cocoa, and once everyone had finished their milk, I washed the dishes after Eir-Eir finished munching on her tea cookies.
Then, I quickly fixed my hair and stepped outside from the entrance of Lobelia.
The narrow alley was completely covered in white, with soft new snow piled up.
"Hehe, it's white and cold."
I buried my palm in the snow.
It was so cold that my fingertips started to hurt.
"Pumpkin pudding!"
Eir-Eir jumped down from above me and landed in the snow.
She rolled around, getting all covered in snow, and happily munched on the fluffy white snow.
Ms. Famine looked really surprised and quietly said, "Tart..." before snuggling into my clothes and not moving.
"I also don't like the cold. Just a little bit, Lydia."
"Snow rabbits, snowmen... Snow Eir-Eir!"
My dad shivered as he went back into the store.
I started to roll up some snow to make a snowman in front of the shop.
Soon, kids playing in the street came over and said, "Bad big sister, can I help you?" "Do you want to make a snowman, bad big sister?" They helped me out.
We rolled the snow together to make 2 big snowballs and stacked them.
Eir-Eir rolled around too and turned into a snowball. When she became a snowball, she made a really sad face, saying "pudding," so I helped her out.
She must have been cold. A small snowman was finished, and I put red currants from the shop for its eyes and mouth.
"It looks like Eir-Eir!"
"It's a round rice cake."
"It's mochi!"
The red eyes looked just like Eir-Eir.
When I stuck 2 leaves on its head, it looked even more like Eir-Eir.
The kids found it funny and started lining up the little Eir-Eir snowmen in front of my shop.
"Wow, cute!"
"Yeah, it's cute, bad big sister. With this, they won't call you a bad restaurant."
"You might not be a bad big sister anymore."
The kids still saw me as the bad big sister.
It was a bit sad, but I was getting used to it.
"...Ms. Lydia, what are you doing?"
"Sir Ciel! Hello!"
"Yeah, hello."
I looked up at the figure walking towards me through the snow.
Maybe because it was snowing, today Sir Ciel was wearing a hooded robe.
He stopped in front of me, who was crouching down to make a snowman, and looked worried as he peered at my face.
"It must be cold. Your body is chilly. Have you been outside for a long time?"
"Hehe, I just got carried away. It's my first time playing in the snow."
"Big sister, boyfriend."
"Your boyfriend is here."
"He's not my boyfriend, he's a friend."
The kids' mom came to pick them up and said, "It's time to go home, Lyd-Lyd.
Thanks for playing." The kids said, "We were playing with the big sister," as they left.
Sir Ciel's long fingers touched my cheek.
"See, you're cold. Let's go inside. Your hands are red too. You shouldn't play in the snow without gloves."
Sir Ciel held my hand gently, wrapping it in his.
He usually feels colder than me, but today, since I was so cold, his hand felt really warm.
"But it's cute. Round and nice. This shape is Ms. Eiris, right?"
Sir Ciel complimented the snowman shaped like Eir-Eir that was lined up in front of my shop.
Eir-Eir happily said, "Pumpkin pudding!" while sitting on top of the snowman's head.
Ms. Famine made a small sound from inside my clothes, sounding like she was complaining, "It's cold."
