Volume 4 Chapter 3 The Language Of Mimosa Flowers
Since it's the day of the Christmas festival, the Christmas market is really lively.
Lots of people are smiling happily, holding various goods and food.
Today is a special celebration day, so the festive food like butter cake filled with walnuts, nuts, and dried fruits is selling well.
The butter cake has pictures of festive flowers, birds, and a pegasus on top.
"Lydia, is there anything you want to eat? I saw some Christmas decorations in the shop. They look nice and calming."
"Mr. Lucian, since you're so stylish, do you like things like decorations too?"
"Not really, I don't think of myself as stylish... But lately, I've been liking plants. Having one in my room makes it feel a bit more relaxing."
"You're definitely stylish."
"Just having a plant in my room doesn't make me stylish. I don't mind being complimented, but it sounds like you're saying I'm cool."
"You are cool, Mr. Lucian."
"...Thanks. When you say it so honestly, it makes me a bit shy."
"You're cool, so women like you."
"I'm only trying to impress you right now."
"...I think it's better not to say things like that too casually."
"I'm serious. I hope you're starting to trust me a bit. ...Lydia, how about we get some dried mimosa flowers for the shop?"
"Mimosa?"
Mr. Lucian looked around at the many stalls.
Then, he stopped at a shop selling dried flowers.
"Yeah. Mimosa is probably the most famous flower to give to women during the Christmas festival. Even as a dried flower, it stays beautiful and doesn't lose its color. It's called the flower of good luck. ...Its meanings are gratitude and friendship, I think."
"I'm so happy... thank you...!"
Mr. Lucian bought me a bouquet of dried mimosa flowers.
The cute mimosa has lots of small yellow flowers, and even though each flower is tiny, the bouquet looks very bright.
It would look cute hanging on the wall or in a vase.
"Pumpkin..."
Eir-Eir is looking at the bouquet with interest.
"It's not food, Eir-Eir."
"Tarte Tatin..."
Ms. Famine muttered quietly, sounding a bit annoyed.
She probably thinks, "What a silly girl..." Even though Ms. Famine seems to really like Eir-Eir, she can be a bit cold sometimes.
"Pumpkin pudding."
"Are you hungry, Eir-Eir? It's almost lunchtime. Mr. Lucian, you didn't eat anything during the mushroom festival because you were so worried."
"That was a long time ago. The mushroom festival. I'm sorry about that. I couldn't even escort you properly."
"It's fine, I had fun. There were a lot of things happening. ...Mr. Lucian, will you eat properly today? The food from the stalls is delicious."
The hot fried chicken, roasted chicken legs, salmon tartare sandwiches, and cheese-covered sausage bread all look tasty.
"I want to say I'll eat something... but to be honest, I've been thinking about treating you."
"Treating me...?"
"Yeah. ...I was wondering if you'd like to have lunch at my house. You've been cooking for me for a while now. So, I thought we could celebrate the Christmas festival at my place today."
"...At Mr. Lucian's house?"
"The food is already made... I thought it might be a bit rude to invite you, and I was worried you might not want to come."
"I wouldn't mind at all, I'm happy. ...But is it okay for me to come over?"
"Ah, yeah... then let's go."
"Yes!"
While we were having that conversation in front of the shop where I bought the dried flowers, the shop lady smiled gently and spoke.
"The language of mimosa flowers is secret love. May there be blessings of Christmas for wonderful lovers."
Mr. Lucian seemed used to this and replied, "Ah, thank you."
I wasn't feeling calm inside, but I didn't want to ignore my older sister's kindness, so I bowed a little.
The flower language of mimosa is gratitude, friendship, and secret love.
All of them are nice words.
Mr. Lucian knew the flower language of lobelia too, so he really knows a lot about flowers.
Flower languages have many meanings.
Just like people──there's not just one face we show, but many hidden sides too.
I'm sure he gave it to me as a gift of gratitude or friendship.
But secret love...
I wonder if one day I can have a wonderful love with someone too.
"...Mr. Lucian, flower languages aren't just one thing, right?"
"That's right. There are also meanings like true love and elegance."
"I... have misunderstood Mr. Lucian for a long time. Not just you, but everyone. There's so much I don't know. About Eir-Eir and Ms. Famine too. If I hadn't tried to learn, I would have stayed in the dark."
"...You are kind. That's why you think that way. If it weren't for you──I would still be lost in darkness."
"I'm really happy that Mr. Lucian is here with me, and that we can walk together in the festival town. ...Mr. Lucian has always been by my side. ...Since the time I covered my ears and closed my eyes."
"...But at first, I had my own motives."
"Still, I won't forget that you protected me. People have many faces, just like flower languages. Good sides and bad sides... I'm the same. Even the people walking here with smiles probably have many worries and struggles."
"That's true. There are probably very few who are only happy."
"Still, I hope everyone can smile on the night of the festival. I think festivals are for that. It's a day to eat delicious food and feel happy."
Eir-Eir and Ms. Famine snuggled up to me.
Mr. Lucian squinted his eyes and ruffled my hair.
"That's a good way to think, Lydia. To me, your smile is a greater blessing than Goddess Alexandria's. ...I hope my cooking can make you happy. ...Lydia, should we buy a butter cake? I couldn't bake a cake this time."
"Yes!"
I replied cheerfully.
Then Mr. Lucian and I bought a butter cake and headed to his house.
