Volume 6 Chapter 4 Sir Roxas's Marriage
Sir Rail swallowed his fifth sweet bean cake and let out a deep sigh, which was unusual for him.
"Even though they say marriage, he still doesn't have a partner picked out yet... Roxas went back to the Duke Girard's house after the New Year. His dad has been telling him to come home for a long time."
"Is that so? Is he okay with that?"
I know a little about Sir Roxas's family situation.
I heard about it when I was kidnapped to the Girard family's other house to help Sir Rail.
Sir Roxas's dad, Duke Girard, seemed to only care about the talented Sir Rail.
Sir Roxas, who has the power to use deadly magic, was treated like he wasn't needed and was feared by his mom and the servants.
Sir Rail, his twin brother, was the one who supported Sir Roxas emotionally.
So when Sir Rail got sick with White Moon disease, Sir Roxas used his power to threaten their parents and took control of the Girard family.
So, he basically became the Duke Girard.
Hearing that Sir Roxas is being called back to the Girard family makes me worried.
"Well, I think he'll be okay. But it's still a hassle. Roxas is 20 now, so it's natural for them to say he should get married for the family..."
"But he doesn't have a partner yet, right? Can't he just find a woman he likes?"
I said, clenching my hands.
Sir Roxas and love.
He always looks grumpy and a bit scary, but he often breaks dishes and spills tea.
I have no idea what kind of woman he likes...
"Maybe a calm, caring woman... or something like that?"
"Yeah... I guess so..."
"Lydia... I bet Roxas doesn't want to get married."
"What?"
To support Sir Rail, Elder Brother Chrisrain raised a finger and said.
"He doesn't have a partner yet, but as a Duke, he's being told to marry for the family and the people. Since he doesn't have a partner, he's not being forced into a marriage he doesn't want. But, considering his position, it's hard to refuse. So, he's in a tough spot."
Then he pointed his finger to his mouth.
"The answer from that is clear. Roxas doesn't want to get married. Just like me~."
Elder Brother Chrisrain said in a relaxed voice.
I was surprised and widened my eyes, then looked down.
"I-I'm sorry... So, Sir Roxas is worried because he doesn't want to get married... That's why Sir Rail is worried too..."
"Yeah, that's about it. Normally, I should be the one to inherit the Girard family, but I'm considered dead. Even if my parents knew I was alive, they'd probably say that my bloodline, which had White Moon disease, can't continue in the Girard family... In the end, my dad still has the final say in the family..."
As Sir Rail said this, he fed the sweet bean cake he was about to eat to Eir-Eir, who was looking up at him with hungry eyes.
"There are people in the Duke Girard territory too, so Roxas knows he can't just play around forever...!"
"Can Sir Rail play around...?"
"Yeah. I'm irresponsible. If it were me... if my dad told me to get married, I'd just adopt a really talented kid, like a child of His Highness...! And I'd dodge the issue like that, but Roxas is serious."
"Why Sir Stefan's...?"
"Marx loves the Bernard family a lot. If we say we want to bring His Highness's bloodline into our family, he would never say no. I don't know why, but he really likes them. His Majesty Zeere... it seems like he used to compete with your Father Feldur for the title of friend."
"Eh? Huh...?"
Competing for the title of friend.
What does that even mean?
I imagined Father Feldur and Duke Girard pulling on His Majesty Zeere's hands.
I can't really remember what Marquis Girard looks like, just that he has a black line around his eyes.
I also can't remember His Majesty Zeere's face well, so it's the same for him.
"So... Sir Roxas is just like Sir Stefan too...?"
"I think he does?"
"That's why he doesn't want to get married..."
"Princess, I'm sorry. I feel like my words made things worse. But anyway, Roxas doesn't want to get married, but he knows he has to accept it because he's serious about his position. He really wants to be more free, but it feels like he's being tied down at home."
"Marriage, huh... that brings back memories..."
As I nodded along to Sir Rail's explanation, my dad suddenly said something.
An awkward silence filled the shop.
Everyone's eyes turned to my dad.
"Dad, marriage...? Is your partner a poodle or something...?"
"Ah, that was a secret. Forget it."
"Dad's kids... the puppies... you look like a puppy too..."
"I'm everyone's dad."
I didn't know Dad had been married before.
I wonder if he got married as a dog or as a human.
Now there's another secret, Dad.
"So, Rail wants to help Roxas... that's what it is."
Elder Brother Chrisrain pulled out a big folding fan from nowhere and snapped it in his hands.
"Yeah. To put it simply, that's it."
"Then, why not have Lydia pretend to be his fiancée?"
"Huh?"
Elder Brother Chrisrain smiled like he just had a great idea.
I was surprised to hear my name and looked up at him, confused.
"Yeah. That's a good idea. If Roxas could say something like marriage is silly, and he'll get married if he finds someone he likes, then that would be great. But that's probably not how he feels. So, if we say he has a fiancée, it should convince Duke Girard and the others."
"Uh, but..."
"But, Chrisrain. Dad wants Roxas to get married right away. If the princess lies and says she's his fiancée, they might rush to have a wedding."
"...Yeah. So, maybe... for example, Lucian could come in and say, 'Give me back my Lydia!' and make it all messy... then Roxas would be a man who lost his fiancée twice and finally be free..."
"Uh, huh..."
What a terrible plan, I thought.
Would anyone really believe that? Besides, wouldn't it just ruin Sir Roxas and Mr. Lucian's reputations?
"Sounds good, I like it."
Ignoring my worries, Sir Rail gave a thumbs up like it was a great idea.
