Volume 6 Chapter 8 Duke Girard's Town/street Rilden
Duke Girard's area is close to the capital city, making trade with the capital easier.
If you go straight north from the capital, you'll see this mountain town.
They mine magic stones a lot here, and there are many mines that also have other ores. Sir Rail told me that Duke Girard's area is doing well because of the trade in these stones and ores.
The Duke's family live in the biggest town, Riruden, which is on the outskirts of the area.
From above, it looks more like a castle than just a house.
It's smaller than the royal palace in the holy city, but way bigger than the mansion I imagined.
Mr. Lucian's Fafnir and his swan peach bun landed on the edge of Riruden.
From there, we walked towards the Girard family home.
Of course, Sir Rail, Sir Stefan, and Mr. Lucian are all known by Duke Girard and Mr. Marx.
So, it was up to my older brother Chrisrain to take me to the Girard house.
Eir-Eir and Ms. Famine, who are always with me, snuck into my clothes and disappeared.
Sometimes they are outside, and other times they stick close to me and seem to vanish.
I think they might be inside me.
I can't feel anything, but it feels like I'm connected to them.
My dad also said, "I stand out too," and then he disappeared.
It seems like he can also appear and disappear like Eir-Eir and Ms. Famine.
I've been feeling a bit lonely since my fluffy friends have been gone lately.
But I held on because I wanted to help Sir Roxas.
If people thought I was a suspicious person with strange animals, I wouldn't even get in the Duke Girard's house.
"Princess, thanks for helping. I don't think anything will happen, but if it does, just shout really loud."
"What do you mean..."
As I said goodbye to everyone away from the Duke Girard's house, Sir Rail held my hands and said this seriously.
What does he mean by "something"?
Is Duke Marx a scary person? Like, would he throw me in jail for lying about being engaged?
"Lydia, I will definitely come to rescue you from Roxas. Please wait for me."
Sir Stefan said this with a serious face too.
That makes it sound like Sir Roxas is a really bad guy, but I wonder if Sir Stefan has forgotten our goal.
I start to worry a little.
"I'll take you away, Lydia. Let's run away together. We can swear our love in a forgotten church where no one goes."
"Mr. Lucian, that doesn't sound like a joke. It's scary..."
I think he's just trying to lighten the mood, but the way he said it is a bit creepy and also kind of exciting.
I wonder where this forgotten church is──
It sounds a bit gloomy and maybe a little shady, but I kind of want to see it.
But it's also scary.
"Um... I'll do my best. I'm not really sure how, but... anyway, it's for my friends...!"
"My sister is such a good girl... It seems like a lot has happened, but I'm glad you're growing up healthy. Don't worry, I'll crash Lydia's wedding for Roxas."
Elder Brother Chrisrain put his hands on my shoulders and said this strongly.
It's the first time someone said they would crash a wedding, and it feels weird──like I'm happy but also doing something really bad.
"I'm not sure if I should feel relieved... Anyway, I'll be waiting... I hope Sir Roxas can be free soon..."
I squeezed my hands together by my chest.
I really don't want to marry Sir Roxas anyway.
I chose not to go back to the Rest family, just like Sir Roxas. Maybe he wants to stay free a little longer because Sir Rail is finally feeling better and life is fun now.
I said goodbye to everyone and walked towards the big gate of the mansion that looks like a castle. The soldiers guarding the gate looked at me and Elder Brother Chrisrain with suspicious frowns.
I guess it's understandable. Elder Brother Chrisrain looks flashy. He has this noble vibe, but his outfit is kind of mysterious.
I'm wearing a cute outfit for going out, but it's not a fancy dress like the nobles wear. It looks pretty common.
"Sorry, but could you call Sir Roxas? I'm a messenger from the Rest family. This is Lydia Rest, the eldest daughter of the Rest family and Sir Roxas's fiancée. I was sent here by Sir Roxas."
"We can't just let in someone we don't know."
"Well, that makes sense. Hmm, what should I do... I can't show the royal family crest. I should have asked Aunt Tiansa for something to prove who I am."
The soldier spoke harshly, and Elder Brother Chrisrain shrugged, looking troubled.
Now that I think about it, I don't have anything to prove my identity either.
Everyone is trying to keep my identity a secret right now, so I have nothing.
"What's going on?"
At that moment, I heard a voice coming from the mansion.
I saw Sir Roxas walking towards us.
He looked more serious than when he was visiting Robelia, and his usual grumpy expression looked even grumpier.
"Lydia! And Chrisrain too...!"
Sir Roxas, looking scarier than usual, hurried over to us when he saw us.
The path from the Duke Girard's mansion to the entrance was nicely paved with bricks, and there was a light layer of snow on it.
Just as I expected, Sir Roxas slipped on the snow and almost fell, but he managed to stay upright.
"Sir Roxas! Are you okay?"
"Sir Roxas!"
The soldiers rushed towards Sir Roxas.
"It's fine. I'm okay. More importantly, that's Lydia Rest over there. She's an important guest from the Rest family. Open the gate."
Sir Roxas straightened himself up and adjusted his glasses, speaking clearly.
The iron gate was closed, separating us from Sir Roxas.
The tightly shut gate looked like a cage trapping him inside.
"Um, I'm Sir Roxas's fiancée...! That's why I'm here, called by Sir Roxas...!"
Sometimes Sir Roxas can be confusing and grumpy, which makes me a bit scared.
But he always helps me out, and when I think about it, he encourages me a lot. He's my friend. Remembering my role for today, I shouted loudly.
"Fiancée...!"
Sir Roxas's eyes widened in surprise, and then he really did slip and fall flat on the ground.
It looked painful.
