Volume 6 Chapter 22 Abandoned Deusdia / Former Kirschtein
The abandoned town of Deusvia, or Old Kirschtein, looks more lively than before.
It was the day when Eiris, the witch's daughter, went wild and destroyed this town.
And it was also the day when healing candies fell from the sky thanks to Lydia's power.
With help from Leonsroar and Saintwise, they set up a food distribution, gathering people from both Bernard and Kirschtein around the table.
Since that day, something must have changed in the town.
The Kirschtein people used to have their living areas limited, and they couldn't enter the Bernard areas.
But now, it seems like those barriers are gone.
Most Kirschtein people have golden hair and blue eyes, and they tend to be tall.
Still, their looks, language, and writing aren't much different from the Bernard people, so it's hard to tell them apart.
Ciel walks slowly through the Kirschtein town.
On his shoulder sits a small animal that looks like a fox with emerald green fur.
He found it in Hailshtrul's stone chamber.
Ciel has a feeling he knows what that animal is, and he thinks it must have some meaning for following him.
So far, he's the only one who understands the meaning of the apology left by the goddess Alexandria on the Hailshtrul stone.
He knows he needs to find the other two witch daughters, but first, he has something important to take care of.
He received a letter from Wilshark.
It was important, so he needed to see him quickly.
Thinking about his relationship with Wilshark, it's surprising that he would send him a letter.
Ciel was born into the Margrave Wisteria family.
The Margrave got angry and disappointed when he saw the jewels that appeared on Ciel's body, calling him a "cursed child." He locked Ciel and his mother, Bianca, in the attic of the Margrave house to keep an eye on them.
They were hidden away as a shame to the Wisteria family, so no one could see them and they wouldn't escape.
They were secretly kept in a miserable situation.
If it was just being kept like that, it wouldn't be so bad.
Ciel was always dirty and hungry, never getting enough food.
When his mother fell ill from their bad situation, Ciel would sneak out to get food, and that's when he was spotted by Wilshark and Clifford, who were like brothers but not related by blood.
The creepy Gem's People.
Their bodies are made of stone. Their heads are stone too. So they could hardly talk.
They would say things like that and kick him, and when he wanted food so badly, they stuffed mud into his mouth.
Since Gem's People are made of stone, they thought he could eat dirt too.
Even so, when they saw Ciel not fighting back or getting angry, they laughed and said, "The Margrave says you're not human," and "You're a monster, so you can't understand us."
Things didn't change between Ciel and Wilshark until Bianca died and Ciel left the Margrave Wisteria house.
The Margrave allowed them to treat him that way.
But Wilshark seems to have changed a bit.
He doesn't know about Clifford, who is now the head of the Margrave Wisteria family.
He didn't want to get close to that family.
It's not like he has no lingering feelings about it.
But he doesn't feel intense anger either.
He doesn't pity his younger self, nor does he hold a grudge against the Margrave family for not getting him treatment.
It still feels like it's someone else's problem.
Lydia once said that when you go through too much pain, your heart gets tired, and you stop feeling anything.
Is that really true?
Taking a deep breath, he looks up at the sky.
(I want to see Ms. Lydia's face. ...And I wonder if Lucian, Sir Roxas, and Sir Rail are doing well...)
They must be doing fine.
Lobelia is probably filled with bright laughter today.
Rail spills tea, breaks a plate, and fixes it himself. Lucian pets Lydia, and Rail grows irritated. He realizes he enjoyed listening to that lively noise when alone.
Still, Ciel was used to being alone.
He had been on his own for a long time and preferred it that way.
Even after joining Saintwise, Ciel often did things solo because of his teleportation magic. The others at Saintwise thought he could handle tasks independently, so no one ever criticized him for it.
This is the first time he has thought about wanting to go home.
What could Wilshark need?
Ignoring the bad feeling creeping in, Ciel headed to Old Kirschtein Castle.
Using teleportation magic would get there in an instant, but Ciel wanted to take his time, so he walked slowly, enjoying the view of the town.
