Volume 6 Chapter 24 Filouz Vermilion

Volume 6 Chapter 24 Filouz Vermilion

In the town of Edelstein, where the Gem's People live, there are white buildings lined up among the rocky mountains. It's a town with not many colors.

It's said that a few Gem's People moved here to this empty land behind the mountain range, which had nothing at first.

The Gem's People were afraid of humans and fled from all over the country to the Margrave territory at the edge of the land.

At that time, the Margrave territory wasn't exactly peaceful, but they probably didn't pay much attention to Edelstein because they were busy with Kirschtein.

The Gem's People who escaped from all over the country gathered together and built the town.

They carved homes into the rocky mountains using magic.

The town feels like it's part of the mountain.

Some people call Edelstein an ant hill, but the town is surprisingly well-made.

The carved rock is supported by pillars, and there are houses that look like stacked squares.

There are spiral staircases everywhere, and the town keeps going up and up.

It looks more like a spiral shell than an ant hill.

In Edelstein, the Gem's People walk around freely.

In the Holy Capital of Bernard Kingdom, you see Gem's People wearing robes and cloaks to hide their bodies, with cloth covering their heads, so you can only see their faces.

Here, they wear whatever clothes they like. The reason there's a lot of white is probably because their bodies are made of colorful gems, so they keep their clothing colors simple.

Blue, red, emerald green, and black.

People with bodies made of various colored minerals live here without worrying about being seen.

At first, he thought the town was colorless, but when he walked around, he noticed that the walls, floors, and outer walls are filled with different gems. Those must be pieces of the Gem's People.

The Gem's People don't live for a very long time. Like humans, they have a lifespan of about 60 years.

When a Gem's Person passes away, they leave behind beautiful gems that are as stunning as or even more beautiful than he was in life.

It seems like those gems are embedded in the town.

He's not sure if they are like tombstones or if they have another meaning.

Ciel has the blood of the Gem's People, but among them, Ciel is different.

The place called the royal palace of Edelstein is located in the upper part of the town.

At the very top, after climbing the spiral staircase, there's an open area.

It feels strange because the town is mostly made of white stone and gems, with no plants or rivers.

There's no water or trees. Yet, they can still live here.

The Gem's People don't need to eat. They can live without drinking water too.

They only need to sleep for a long time to recover when they lose their magic.

They can talk and think, but their appearance and nature are very different from humans.

At the back of the square, there's the royal palace.

The palace is also made from white rock. It uses even more gems than the town, and there are many pillars at the entrance.

Behind the pillars, there's an entrance guarded by what looks like soldiers.

They don't carry swords. Most of the Gem's People have powerful magic, so they don't need weapons.

"Ciel. I knew you would come here."

As he walked through the entrance of the palace, flanked by tall pillars, he was called by name before the guards could stop me.

A figure was walking toward me.

That person was wearing a long robe that looked like a white cloak, trailing on the floor.

But it wasn't really dragging; the hem floated gently in the air.

With a body made of transparent blue gems and red eyes, it's hard to tell their age just by looking.

But from their low, deep voice, he could tell that this Gem's Person was much older than him.

"Sir Filouz, it's been a while."

"Ah, Ciel. Safiro's son. How old are you now?"

 "25... I'll be 26 this April."

"I see. Safiro died young, even younger than you. You should be thankful that someone like you, an outsider, has lived longer than Safiro."

 "Yes."

 Filouz Vermilion.

He is known as the king of the Gem's People.

Ciel's father, Safiro, was Filouz's only son.

A foolish human woman took his only son away, and in the end, that human killed him. When Ciel first visited this town, Filouz was half-crazy and shouted at Ciel.

 Ciel was just 15 then.

Since that time, Ciel hasn't set foot in this town again.

It seems Filouz's wife also died from the sadness of losing Safiro.

The Gem's People are a race that doesn't die easily, but they are weak when it comes to emotional turmoil.

Endless sorrow can drain the magical power that flows in their blood.

If their magic runs out, the Gem's People will die.

If they wish to die because they are sad, they can actually die.

Ciel, who became a mercenary, saw Wisteria's house and Edelstein as things that had nothing to do with him. He read as many books as he could to make up for the education he never received.

He remembers feeling envious when he found out that the Gem's People were described that way.

Even if he wished to die, Ciel couldn't die.

──This is a story from the past, not now.

"Ciel, come here. I will tell you what you want to know."

"...Sir Filouz. I'm here to investigate the connection between you and the White Moon disease. It seems rumors are spreading in the borderlands. They say the White Moon disease is a curse of the Gem's People."

 "Just follow me quietly, Ciel."

He thought asking that would make Filouz angry.

That would just be an accusation. It was only a pretext for the Margrave to attack Edelstein.

 But Filouz didn't deny it.

The fox-like creature inside Ciel's robe peeked out and curiously looked around, so Ciel gently patted its head.

 "Shall we go?"

When he whispered that, the creature hid back inside the robe.

Thinking it was about time to give it a name, Ciel followed Filouz.
