Volume 1 Chapter 30 Mean Villainess, Thinking About Dreams

Since I had that dream, my practice with crystal divination has been surprisingly smooth.

However, my feelings are anything but calm.

I can't help but wonder about that, the old-fashioned beauty who apologized to me.

 Who was she anyway?

If it were just an encounter with a beautiful woman, I shouldn't be so bothered, but the fact that she apologized really sticks with me.

And there's also the fact that I'm curious about Lady Ruby's "I'm on your side" statement.

It's nice to have someone like Lady Ruby on my side, but if I have allies, does that mean I have enemies too?

"Oh dear, it's Lady from the Count Alfano family. You're as air-headed as ever."

...Right now, someone is clearly speaking to me with a hostile attitude, but for some reason, they don't feel like an enemy.

Even if they were an enemy, they give off a small fry vibe.

 Who are they again?

They said "as ever," so it seems like this person knows me, but honestly, I don't remember them at all.

"Well, I have no use for a loser like you."

 Loser, huh?

Wait, did I lose somewhere without even knowing it?

 What did I lose to?

 That's a bit scary.

 Who is this?

As I was completely confused, Mister Eliseo and Sir Lorentz walked toward me side by side.

As I was debating whether to ignore the stranger in front of me and greet Mister Eliseo, the person seemed to notice the two approaching us amidst the commotion.

"Sir Lorentz! I've been waiting for you!"

The stranger in front of me ran up to Sir Lorentz and quickly collapsed on him.

When I saw that, I finally remembered.

Is that the woman? The daughter of the rich Margrave.

I had completely forgotten about it because my mind was filled with the dream.

Mister Eliseo comes towards us, leaving Sir Lorentz behind after he has been captured by the daughter of a rich Margrave.

"What's wrong, Elena? I'm here now. I taught you the magic to scare off harmful pests."

"No, I wouldn't use it here"

I mean, teacher, you just called that person a natural pest, right?

The pest refers to that person, right?

 That's something awful to say.

 Well, more importantly...

"By the way, teacher, I have something I'd like to ask you..."

"What is it? Do you want me to teach you the magic for pest removal?"

"No, let's forget about the pest. Um... which parent do your hair color and eyes resemble?"

When I ask that, the teacher furrows his brow and tilts his head.

 "...Neither of them resembles me."

"Have I ever hear that story?"

 "I shouldn't have mentioned it."

The Lady Ruby that appeared in my dream definitely said that.

Mister Eliseo's hair color and eye color are a throwback to his ancestors, resembling Lady Ruby.

I wanted to think that Lady Ruby was an illusion created by my wish, but would a mass of my desires speak knowledge I didn't know?

Could it be that Lady Ruby is real...?

"Oh, because Sir Lorentz didn't pay you any attention, you've now decided to cozy up to Mister Eliseo?"

 Ugh, the pest is back.

As I silently muttered this in my heart, the teacher grabbed my arm.

"You're in the way. Let's go, Elena."

 "Ah, eh? Yes."

I thought she could quickly leave me alone since my part was done.

* * *

"So? why were you alone here? Take Leve, Rudger, or at least Natalia with you."

"We were talking to the stone divination earlier... and none of us have learned Attack Magic, but you know a lot about my friend."

"...Anyway, let's continue from what we were talking about earlier."

 The topic was obviously changed.

And there's nothing to say about the previous story.

 "There's nothing more to come"

"Tell me why you're interested in my hair and eye color"

I never thought I'd be asked that.

I hadn't thought about it, but I'm a master of excuses and a first-class holder of the excuse-making test.

"Well, ever since I heard about Lady Ruby from the teacher the other day, I've been devouring stories modeled after her. Maybe because of that, I had a dream about her the other day. And in that dream, Lady Ruby looked like the teacher, which led me to wonder if that hair and eye color has been passed down through generations."

Although I ended up speaking a bit quickly, I figured this would somehow allow me to weave my way out of it.

 "...I see."

Since the teacher's expression didn't change much, I couldn't tell if he was convinced, but if this ends the conversation, then I shouldn't slip up.

"It seems my hair and eye color resembles Ruby's."

 It didn't end!

 "Is that so?"

"It's said to be a throwback from my ancestors."

I heard that too from Lady Ruby.

Though it's the first time I'm hearing it from the teacher, of course.

"So such things do happen, huh?"

"In the past, I had to bear heavy expectations because of this color."

I also heard that from Lady Ruby.

It's definitely the first time I'm hearing it from the teacher, though.

This makes it evident that the Ruby who appeared in my dream is likely the real one.

"The pressure was so painful that there was a time I almost shaved my head."

 "Really!?"

 "But I didn't do it."

 "That's surprising!"

In my astonishment, I forgot to use polite language and said that, prompting the teacher to chuckle softly.

"My mother cried and stopped me."

"I guess so. But with your beauty and bone structure, I'm sure you'd look beautiful even without hair."

"Hahaha. As a token of my appreciation, I'll teach you a magic trick to get rid of pest."

 "No... I'll pass today."

Maybe I'll ask him when I really want to get rid of them.

"In the end, I overcame the pressure without shaving my hair, and I achieved my dream of becoming a teacher."

That's what Lady Ruby said, I think.

"I'm sure Lady Ruby is now proud of Mister Eliseo."

 "I wonder"

He said so himself, so I really do believe it, but I'm a little frustrated that I can't tell him.

But now that we've come this far, that Lady Ruby must have been the real deal.

The stories of Ruby and Mister Eliseo overlap too much for it to be a coincidence.

In that case, I can no longer brush off what Lady Ruby said about the seal and that ancient beauty as just a dream.

However, there are just too few clues about what this seal is, and I have no idea where to start investigating.

 "Elena?"

Suddenly, Mister Eliseo leaned in, peering at my face as I began to deep in thought.

Come to think of it, I had just momentarily forgotten that the teacher was beside me.

"Ah, I'm sorry. Well then, I'll be going now."

"You're going back to the classroom, aren't you? Are you okay going alone?"

"Yes... It seems like the troublemaker is over there, so I probably won't be bothered anymore."

Speaking of the pest that is still clinging to Sir Lorentz, I glanced at the wealthy Margrave's daughter way, and the teacher looked in that direction too.

 "That's true, Elena, but..."

"...Yes, Sir Lorentz looks like his eyes are dead. Is he really okay?"

 "He's probably just enduring it."

If he's already enduring so much with such lifeless eyes at the engagement stage, I wonder how he would cope once they actually get married.

It's no longer my concern, but I still feel sorry for him.

"Well then, thank you for telling me your story."

"No, it's fine. If you want to know something else, just come and ask."
