Chapter 43 Dramatic Arrest
It had been almost 2 full days since Rhiannon confessed her feelings to Kaine.
"Ugh, today was no good either..."
Rhiannon lay sprawled on her bed, letting out a big sigh.
In the end, Kaine had started to avoid her completely.
Aside from the bare minimum communication in the morning and evening, he would just wander off and not show up at all.
Once again today, he had skillfully ignored her except for their business-like conversations.
Rhiannon had no issues since the maids took care of her needs in Kaine's absence.
Still, being avoided to this extent was a bit hurtful for Rhiannon.
(Well, I guess I should think optimistically that at least he's not acting completely normal, so maybe he's a little aware of me...)
She understood Kaine's feelings.
It was only natural for most butlers to feel troubled when they received a confession of love from their master.
For a butler, their master's words were absolute, and it was clear that refusing would be difficult.
Depending on how you looked at it, it could be seen as a complete case of power harassment.
However, being avoided this much felt too blatant.
After all, he wouldn't even make eye contact during their morning and evening communications, and if Rhiannon tried to talk to him, he would brush her off with, "I'll get back to that later," without listening at all.
"Even today, he would usually say something like, 'It's cold today,' and serve me hot milk with brandy... What if I catch a cold from the cold weather?"
Muttering to herself, Rhiannon propped her chin on her hand while lying on the bed.
Since she had the day off from her part-time job, she would usually be reading a romance novel and smiling to herself.
However, today she just couldn't get into the mood for a romance novel.
Rhiannon was too caught up in her own love situation.
"I confessed to Kaine, but I wonder if there was a cuter way to say it!"
Rhiannon mumbled to herself, pondering, "Hmm." Even though it was pointless to regret the past, she couldn't help but think that she could have expressed her feelings better.
"Oh, why can't it go as smoothly as in a romance novel? First of all, what was that vague confession! I'm getting mad at myself! ...Ah, if only I were Sarah, I could have said it cuter... If someone looked at me with those big, watery eyes and said 'I like you,' any guy would be swooning..."
On the other hand, Rhiannon, with her way of looking up, might come off as having a bad glare, making her look like she has those 3 white eyes.
She even found herself worrying unnecessarily, thinking, "I wonder if that look was okay back then." This uncertain state was really weighing on Rhiannon.
"Sure, I said I could wait forever, right? But still, it wouldn't hurt for Kaine to reply quickly! After all, Kaine did hug me and say, 'I hold you dear!'."
Rhiannon recalled the warmth of Kaine's embrace, blushing as she pouted.
She understood, in a vague way, why Kaine had rejected her.
Kaine probably felt some responsibility for Rhiannon's downfall in their past life.
(But even if it's about my past life, that's all over now, so there's no way to take responsibility. Besides, Kaine is just too serious! Well, that's what I like about him, but... I wish he could change that part... Ah, I'm getting confused! What is going on!)
With a frustrated groan, Rhiannon buried her head in her hands and rolled around, only to tumble off the bed and hit her head hard, letting out a scream.
At that moment, the door to her room suddenly swung open, and Mrs. Wezelt, the owner of the townhouse, peeked in.
"Rhiannon! I heard a scream; are you okay?"
"Oh, Aunt! I hit my head, but I'm fine. I'm sorry for the noise in the middle of the night."
"It's alright, as long as you're not hurt. Seeing my cute Rhiannon full of energy is the most important thing to me."
Mrs. Wezelt smiled gently, but then her expression clouded slightly.
"More importantly, the knights are here."
"Oh, at this hour?"
"Yes, it seems they have business with Rhiannon..."
"What? With me!?"
Rhiannon tilted her head.
She couldn't think of any reason for the knights to visit at such a late hour.
However, since she had been called, she couldn't ignore it.
Rhiannon hurriedly threw on a gown over her nightclothes and headed to the front entrance.
In the spacious foyer of the townhouse, there were indeed several knights who appeared to be from the order.
Moreover, judging by the shining medals on their pitch-black uniforms, it was clear they were of a high rank.
The confused maids watched from a distance.
"...What do you want at this hour?"
Rhiannon said with a puzzled expression as she faced the knights.
The knight captain, who had been deep in conversation with the other knights, noticed Rhiannon's arrival and gave a slight bow.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Stanley von Wolf, the captain of the First Knights."
The knight who introduced himself as Stanley skipped the lengthy noble greeting and simply stated that.
It was extremely rude for a mere knight to act so arrogantly in front of a noble lady, but when it came to Stanley von Wolf, the captain of the First Knights, it was a different story.
(Why is a living legend of a knight here...)
Stanley, though of common birth, had exceptional skills and a genius-level charisma and leadership, which led to his unusual appointment as captain of the knights at the young age of 25.
And above all, he was handsome.
With fiery red hair and a muscular build that was evident even in his clothing, he exuded strength.
His hazel eyes, reminiscent of a fierce carnivore, stood out prominently on his well-defined face.
(I had heard he was the most popular among the princesses of the royal palace, and it's easy to see why...)
As Rhiannon found herself observing him intently, Stanley cleared his throat lightly.
"Lady Rhiannon, I apologize for the rudeness of visiting so late. However, there is a warrant for your arrest."
"A warrant?"
"My beloved person, the sin of hurting Sarah Belts."
Stanley's hateful gaze pierced Rhiannon.
This sharp gaze had likely frightened and demoralized many knights on the battlefield.
However, Rhiannon was confused.
She had no memory of such an event.
"Hurt Sarah, you say?"
As she instinctively retorted, a knight waiting behind Stanley could no longer contain himself and shouted angrily.
"Are you pretending not to know at this point? After hurting Sarah so badly!"
"The brave Sarah has been enduring all this!"
"Think of it as the time for judgment!"
The knights, who seemed to have a strong sense of justice, were red-faced with anger.
Yet, Rhiannon truly had no idea what they were talking about.
While she stood there in shock, Mrs. Wezelt, who had been observing from behind, interjected.
"Um, I can't believe my Rhiani would do such a thing... After all, this child hardly makes friends and just stays at home..."
"You have no say in this, Mrs. Wezelt. Lady Rhiannon will be taken as she is."
"What!? You're taking her away suddenly in the middle of the night!? That's just too unreasonable!"
For a while, Mrs. Wezelt tried to plead her case, but it seemed that the knight commander in front of her and the surrounding knights were all part of Sarah Belts' entourage and were not listening at all.
Soon enough, Rhiannon was easily captured by the knights and roughly placed into a carriage.
The bewildered Mrs. Wezelt clung to the knight commander, desperately pleading, "This must be a mistake," but her words were coldly ignored.
The carriage with Rhiannon inside was heavily guarded by the knights and began to move through the dark street.
(Wh-what is happening──!?)
Thus, without understanding the situation, Rhiannon was quickly locked away in a dungeon.
