Chapter 47 Doom Flag Evasion

Chapter 47 Doom Flag Evasion

 The outcome was quite simple.

After the trial, Sarah Belts and the two princes, along with the knight commander Stanley, were swiftly exiled from the country.

Rumor had it that Sarah was to be sent to a distant northern land.

Up until just before leaving the country, Sarah reportedly insisted on her innocence.

However, after numerous lies were exposed during the trial, no one believed her words anymore.

Even the princes, who had once idolized Sarah, looked utterly astonished.

This was truly a case of love cooling after a hundred years.

On the other hand, a formal apology was announced by the king to Rhiannon.

She had been unjustly imprisoned in the dungeon and treated poorly by the first and second princes, who had blindly trusted Sarah.

 It was only natural.

Mrs. Wezelt was furious, exclaiming, "What have you done to my cute Rhiani!" Despite her anger, Rhiannon accepted the king's apology, saying, "Everyone makes mistakes," and as a result, she was praised even more among the nobles as a generous young lady.

In the end, it was not the villainous noble lady Rhiannon Mimi Clahsen who walked the path of doom, but Sarah Belts.

"Phew, I've avoided my doom flag. All's well that ends well, I suppose. Still, it's surprising how anticlimactic it is when it ends."

Rhiannon murmured to herself in the empty room.

She had heard rumors that the palace was in an uproar, but for Rhiannon, it was peaceful.

She spent her time leisurely, working part-time, playing with kittens, and getting excited over her favorite romance novels.

"I really want to go see Halesia, but I guess it's better not to bother her..."

Rhiannon sighed, resting her hand on her cheek.

She hadn't been able to see her best friend Halesia much lately.

 It was understandable.

With the princes exiled, Halesia's claim to the throne had suddenly risen to second place, and she was currently overwhelmed with busyness.

In a letter sent to Rhiannon recently, it said.

'Until now, the consequences of me neglecting various royal duties were catching up to me all at once. I was stuck in meetings every day and didn't want to see the faces of the ministers anymore... I just wanted to gaze at Lady Rhiannon's beautiful face...'

This was the kind of whining that was written down.

However, Halesia was quite capable despite everything.

Rhiannon believed that once he became king, he would be a good ruler.

The only downside was that she didn't have the slightest desire to become king.

On the other hand, Werner, who was competing with Halesia for the throne, had completely changed from his previously selfish and arrogant personality to become a noble and diligent prince.

Every week, he sent enthusiastic letters saying, "Your position as mischievously official consort is still open," but Rhiannon brushed them off casually.

With all that going on, Rhiannon had fully regained her peaceful daily life.

"The only remaining issue is one... He's been quiet lately, but maybe it's about time."

Just as Rhiannon was absentmindedly gazing out the window, there was a gentle knock on the door.

When Rhiannon replied, "Come in," Kaine entered her room carrying a large bag.

Kaine, who stepped into the room, bowed slightly to greet her.

 "Excuse me, my lady."

"Oh, Kaine. That outfit is unusual. I feel like it's the first time I've seen you in casual clothes."

Rhiannon widened her eyes and stared at Kaine.

Today, instead of his usual tailcoat, Kaine was wearing a rare fitted white shirt paired with muted brown pants, looking quite neat.

Despite being a simple outfit, it highlighted Kaine's sweet appearance even more.

If he walked through the town, he would surely attract the intense gazes of many women.

(This outfit looks pretty good too! His usual tailcoat is wonderful, but in casual clothes, he has a rough, rugged charm that stands out. If only we could go out together like this sometimes... Ah, but no! Kaine is just too handsome, and it would be a problem if he attracted too much attention from the girls.)

Rhiannon's cheeks turned red as she stared blankly at Kaine.

Her mind was as busy as ever.

"...My lady, is there something on my face?"

Kaine, who had been silently gazing, cleared his throat as if he could no longer bear it, and Rhiannon snapped back to reality, putting on a puzzled expression.

"...Um, Kaine, what's with that outfit and the big luggage? It's like you're about to go on a trip or something!"

Unfazed by Rhiannon's sharp remark, Kaine smiled calmly.

"I've come to say that I would like to take my leave."

 "!"

Rhiannon's shoulders jumped at Kaine's words.

After a brief, awkward silence, Rhiannon asked again.

"...Leave, you say? Does that mean you're quitting as my butler? I don't remember giving you permission for that!"

"Yes, I thought you would say that, so I sent my resignation to your father."

"You sent your resignation directly to my father without telling me?"

"According to my contract, my employer is your father, so it seemed appropriate to send it to him. Well, it should be accepted soon."

 "Th-that's so sneaky!"

"To be Lady Rhiannon's butler, one must be a little sneaky to get by."

Kaine replied with a cool expression.

Rhiannon looked like she was about to cry.

"Where do you plan to go after quitting as my butler?"

"I'm thinking of going to Vuwessel for about 6 months. Fortunately, I received a good salary from the Clahsen family, so I plan to take a break and relax for a while."

Vuwessel was a famous resort in the Tortone Kingdom, known for its beautiful lakeside, mountains, and clear air, with nothing else around.

It took about 5 days by carriage from the capital, so even Rhiannon couldn't easily visit.

"Think it over! Vuwessel is such a boring place!"

"Compared to the days I've spent here, it will probably be dull. After all, it's not like I'll be with some lady who immediately raises doom flags if left alone."

Before Rhiannon could argue, Kaine gracefully bowed.

"Well then, my lady, thank you for everything up to now. I have many things I want to say, but it would be rude to say too much at parting, so I will choose to leave in silence. Please take care of yourself."

With a smile that hid his true feelings, Kaine turned away, trying to escape Rhiannon's pleading gaze.

However, his back seemed to carry a sense of loneliness, as if sadness clung to him.

Surely, Kaine thought this would be his final farewell to Rhiannon in this life.

Rhiannon bit her lip tightly and pulled something out of a drawer.

 "Wait, Kaine."

"What is it, my lady? I feel a sense of regret, but please don't hold me back any longer..."

Called to a stop, Kaine slowly turned around and was taken aback by the expression on Rhiannon's face as she held something in her hand.

It was no wonder he was shocked; in Rhiannon's hand was the resignation letter that Kaine had supposedly addressed to his master, Fellui Clahsen, just days before.

"Is this what you mean by your 'resignation letter'?"

Rhiannon smirked, her eyes narrowing mischievously as she grinned.
