Chapter 49 The End Of The Story
The white castle of the Clahsen family, perched on a hill in the Ariassel plains, was unusually noisy.
The reason was simple: tomorrow, Rhiannon Mimi Clahsen, the only daughter of the Clahsen family, and her boyfriend, Kaine Ricciardi, were finally getting married.
As maids polished the castle and decorated with flowers, the attendants rushed around, making final checks for the ceremony.
Amidst all this, a loud, dramatic sobbing echoed from the bride Rhiannon's room.
"I can't believe I'm invited to Lady Rhiannon's wedding... I'm just so, so happy..."
Crying out loud, Halesia wiped her tears with the handkerchief she had brought.
Rhiannon was flustered.
Her best friend, whom she hadn't seen in a while, just wouldn't stop crying, and it was making her anxious.
Rhiannon's father, Fellui Clahsen, had also cried dramatically, thinking, "I can't believe that spoiled daughter of mine is getting married." However, Halesia's sobbing easily surpassed Fellui's tears.
Rhiannon looked at Halesia, who was shedding tears like a waterfall, with concern.
"Hey, Halesia. Please don't cry so much. Tomorrow is my wedding with Kaine, you know? Are you planning to attend with those beautiful eyes all swollen?"
"How can I not cry! You have no idea how much I've been looking forward to your wedding! When His Majesty opposed the engagement, I was so worried about what would happen to you two!"
"Oh, you were that worried?"
"Of course I was! For the King to oppose it, it must have been something serious!"
As she said this, Halesia's tears flowed even more.
Rhiannon, worried that Halesia might become dehydrated, poured a generous amount of tea into a cup and handed it to her.
Halesia took the cup and drank it all in one go.
"Oh, I'm so glad. Really..."
"Well, a lot has happened, hasn't it?"
Rhiannon nodded with a serious expression.
In the end, after going through various twists and turns, Rhiannon and Kaine became mutually in love and got engaged.
The obstacle to their engagement was the king, who wanted to somehow marry Rhiannon to the third prince, Werner.
In the Tortone Kingdom, nobles must obtain the king's approval when getting engaged.
Even though it was a somewhat outdated law, without the king's permission, they couldn't get engaged.
The king used this law as a shield, saying things like, "If you're going to get engaged to a wonderful noble lady like Rhiannon, you need to achieve something worthy," to interfere with Kaine and Rhiannon's engagement.
Halesia, realizing that the king was trying to prevent their engagement, boldly confronted him, saying,
'Those who interfere with people's love will be bitten by dragons!?'
However, the king firmly replied,
'Whether I get bitten by a dragon or not, it is my duty as a parent to choose a suitable lady for my son.'
The king was resolute in not recognizing Kaine and Rhiannon's marriage.
The third prince, Werner, also seemed somewhat pleased and apparently did not stop his father's reckless behavior.
Halesia made a bitter face.
"Werner seems to still have feelings for Lady Rhiannon, despite his audacity. That's why he stays silent even when His Majesty interferes with people's love. Honestly, it's ridiculous how he clings to her after breaking off the engagement himself!"
"Still, in the end, His Majesty recognized Kaine's excellence. As expected of Kaine!"
Rhiannon smiled proudly.
Halesia nodded vigorously.
"That was truly Mr. Kaine, wasn't it? Who would have imagined he would achieve such results?"
The conditions set by the king were not a significant barrier for the capable Kaine.
After returning to the Clahsen family's territory, Kaine, as the assistant to the head of the Clahsen family, achieved "worthy results".
If they list what Kaine has accomplished, he doubled the crop yield of the Clahsen family's territory, established trade routes with neighboring countries, and rapidly developed transportation through investments in new technology──before they knew it, the rural land of the Clahsen family had become so financially prosperous that even the royal capital could not ignore it.
The Clahsen family was thriving financially, and Rhiannon's father, Fellui, was considering an early retirement, thinking, "I don't have to work anymore".
"When you see such results, even His Majesty can't oppose the engagement, can they?"
With her eyes red, Halesia blew her nose dramatically and smiled.
Rhiannon gave a wry smile.
"Recently, even His Majesty the King has been turning things around, eagerly sending letters to Kaine asking him to serve in the capital. Kaine has been refusing, but it's quite an honor."
"Of course, if His Majesty has someone as talented as Mr. Kaine, they would want him desperately. It's only natural. Position-wise, perhaps as a financial officer? Or maybe as the deputy executive officer, who has been in constant trouble lately..."
Halesia rested her chin on her hand, deep in thought.
The royal palace was always short on talent.
With someone as capable as Kaine, he would surely exceed expectations no matter where he was placed.
"Excuse me, ladies, for interrupting your lively conversation."
Suddenly, a voice came from behind them.
When they turned around, they saw Kaine standing there with a tea pot, looking exasperated.
Dressed sharply in a tailcoat just like when he was at the palace, he wore a mysterious smile on his well-groomed face.
His black hair was loosely tied with a red ribbon, matching the one Rhiannon wore around her neck.
Rhiannon's cheeks flushed a soft pink.
"Oh, Kaine!"
"I brought tea. Today's selection is herbal tea from Bilris and brioche."
"Thank you. But you don't have to do this, you know? You are the next head of the Clahsen family. I've told you many times that you're not a butler anymore."
"Unless we bring some tea, the ladies' conversation will never end. Even though it's been a long time since we last met, how much do you need to talk? Please pay a little more attention to me."
Saying this, Kaine leaned down and gently kissed the edge of Rhiannon's eye.
Halesia, witnessing this, covered her mouth with both hands and let out a high-pitched scream.
"To see the Tortone Kingdom's most beautiful couple being all lovey-dovey right in front of me! It's such a treat for the eyes! My lifespan just extended by about 5 years! Oh, I feel like I'm going to have a nosebleed!"
Halesia began to worship the two as if they were holy figures.
In contrast, Kaine stared at Halesia's tear-streaked, runny-nosed face.
After a moment, Kaine cleared his throat lightly.
"...Lady Halesia, if I may be so bold, your face is quite a mess."
"Don't worry about it! I'll manage to fix it by tomorrow! Oh, by the way, Mr. Kaine, are you still using formal language with Lady Rhiannon?"
"Yes, it feels more comfortable that way."
Kaine replied casually, and Rhiannon, who was nearby, puffed up her cheeks in annoyance.
"I tell you every day to stop using formal language, but you never listen. You're still calling me 'Lady'... Halesia, you should tell him more too!"
"Well, I can kind of understand Mr. Kaine's feelings. Lady Rhiannon, your aura is so noble that I feel like I have to be formal in front of you."
"Oh, that's right! Halesia, you should stop using formal language too!"
Ignoring the fuming Rhiannon, Halesia faced Kaine.
"By the way, I just heard from Lady Rhiannon that the rumor about Mr. Kaine turning down the headhunting offer from His Majesty is true."
"Yes, that's true."
"Please, may I ask you as well, won't you serve in the royal palace? With someone as capable as Mr. Kaine, it would be a great help to the palace, and more than anything, if you could come to the capital with Lady Rhiannon, I would love to visit you both every day..."
With her eyes gleaming, Halesia tried to charm Kaine.
However, Kaine's response was as distant as ever.
"I must decline. Someone as inexperienced as I am is too busy with matters of the territory."
"Oh, you still give such a cold response... So, what is Mr. Kaine's true feeling?"
"If I were to take the young lady back to the capital, I'm sure bad influences would swarm around her."
Kaine replied coolly.
Halesia clicked her tongue sharply.
"Tch, I knew it, but you really are the type to be possessive."
"Did you say something, Lady Halesia?"
"No, nothing at all!"
Halesia stood up with a forced smile, saying,
"Well then, I will take my leave now. I have no intention of being a nuisance to the newlyweds."
With a graceful wave, Halesia tossed her long black hair and left the room, satisfied.
The room fell silent as soon as she departed.
Rhiannon and Kaine exchanged wry smiles.
"She left like a storm, didn't she?"
"It's been a while since we last met, but Lady Halesia is just the same."
"Yes, but even though Halesia is a candidate for the next king, she remains so friendly and quick-witted, not at all arrogant. I think she would make a good king, even without my bias as a friend."
"...I have a feeling that once she becomes king, she might be the first to propose laws to protect handsome men and beautiful women."
"Don't you think you're being a bit harsh on Halesia, Kaine?"
"You're imagining things. I'm just a little jealous because every time she visits, she monopolizes my beloved for a long time."
As Kaine said this, he leaned his forehead against Rhiannon's shoulder in a playful manner.
The soft black hair brushed against her neck, causing Rhiannon to shiver slightly.
It had been a while since they became lovers, but Rhiannon was still surprised when Kaine suddenly leaned on her like this.
It was probably a normal act for lovers, but she still couldn't get used to it.
"Kaine, that's sneaky..."
"Ha, you really never get used to it, do you?"
"Ah, you laughed, didn't you!? You're doing it on purpose because my reaction is funny!"
"That's not true. But since we're getting married tomorrow, you really need to get used to it."
"Well, that's true, but..."
According to the maids, married couples eventually become like friends.
They say that even when they hug, they don't feel anything anymore.
However, Rhiannon didn't seem to have reached that level yet.
Every time Kaine hugged her, Rhiannon turned bright red, and she couldn't help but feel butterflies from even the smallest gestures.
Thanks to that, Rhiannon had never experienced a phase of boredom in their relationship.
After a moment of hesitation, Rhiannon awkwardly wrapped her arms around Kaine's back, and he chuckled softly near her ear.
"Your ears..."
"Huh?"
"They're quite red."
"...Stop teasing me. I get red so easily. I do care about it, you know."
"You're perfect just the way you are. It's endearing and cute."
As Rhiannon puffed her cheeks and glared at him, Kaine gently kissed the edges of her eyes and her earlobes.
Rhiannon let out a small sigh and briefly acted as if she would resist, but eventually, she melted under Kaine's kisses and allowed him to kiss her soft lips.
"Kaine──..."
With her cheeks flushed, Rhiannon looked up at Kaine, slightly out of breath, and when she stretched up to him──...
"Ah, I forgot to ask! What color is your dress for tomorrow...──Ahh, no way!! Get a roommm!!"
With a loud voice, the door swung open without knocking.
A scream echoed throughout the castle, followed by a loud bang as the door slammed shut.
Of course, the whole series of events was all caused by Halesia.
She casually returned to check the color of the dress for tomorrow, making sure it wouldn't clash, and when she opened the door, she saw it.
Her 2 favorites were lost in a dreamy kiss.
"Wha, Halesia──!?"
"Lady Halesia──!?"
Rhiannon and Kaine rushed to Halesia, who had fallen straight back.
Halesia, with her last bit of strength, looked up at the two of them, tears streaming down her face as they peered into her eyes.
It was almost the day before her best friend's wedding turned into a day of mourning, which Halesia later joked about, but that was a completely unrelated story.
──HAPPY END──.
And so, the villainess Rhiannon Mimi Clahsen lived happily ever after!
