Volume 1 Chapter 52 Mean Villainess, My Emergency is Urgent

Elena Alfano seems to be deeply heartbroken.

It's said that her close relationship with Leve Kreuz has been torn apart.

The one who came between them is a sudden transfer student, Flora Angelo.

The clueless Flora has inserted herself between the two who cared for each other.

Perhaps Flora intends to take Leve away from Elena.

And the reserved Elena might just accept it and step aside.

 Even as her heart aches.

Elena, who had turned down every marriage proposal for Leve, seems to be considering marrying some noble.

She must be planning to go to someone else to forget her feelings for Leve.

 Ah, how pitiful.

 Poor Elena.

Rumors tend to grow, but the ones I've been hearing lately aren't just growing──they're sprouting legs and running wild.

I don't remember any of it.

Well, it's true that Leve and I have been close since childhood, but we just became friends because our parents brought us together, and we were obsessed with games──nothing more.

 We're just normal childhood friends.

 Nothing more, nothing less.

And while it's true that Flora has been around Leve more often, she's not there to tear us apart.

 Leve's just looking after her.

Besides, I didn't turn down marriage proposals to marry Leve.

Actually, it wasn't even me who turned them down──it was my father.

And I'm not considering marrying anyone right now.

I really don't remember any of this!

 I'm not pitiful at all!

 "Sigh..."

"My Lady, is your headache still not better?"

In the morning, as I sighed in the carriage on the way to school, Rolus peered at my face and asked.

 "Headache?"

Well, my head does hurt in many ways, but...

"Last night, before bed, you said your head hurt."

 "Did I? Hmm... I don't remember."

 "but"

I remember talking to Rolus until right before I fell asleep, and I probably ended up saying something like my head hurt because I was half in a dreamlike state.

"I think it's because I was half dreaming, so don't worry about it."

"Lady, you seemed scared of something. You said, 'I'm scared.'"

No, I don't remember it at all.

I don't remember, but one mystery was solved.

I gently reached out and touched the area under Rolus's eyes.

"Because I said something like that, that's why you stayed by my side, even cutting into your own sleep time, right?"

 "No, I──"

"You've got bags under your eyes. I'm sorry. Let's go home early today and take a nap together."

"...If I may be so bold, Lady, I am your servant."

"I want to see my servant's sleeping face. Be prepared, because I'll force you to sleep."

I heard that if you press the carotid artery, they'll pass out.

I'm a full-fledged Mean Villainess, after all. Making a servant fall asleep is as easy as breakfast.

Hmph, I snorted, and as I did, Rolus touched the spot I had just touched with his own hand.

"...Lady, what were you scared of?"

 "I don't remember."

"What are you scared of now?"

 "Now?"

Thinking that Rolus was a bit more talkative than usual today, I looked up at his face and was surprised to see a more serious expression than I expected.

"Even if you don't remember saying you were scared last night, isn't it because you're scared of something that you said it?"

 Well, Rolus has a point.

What was I thinking when I said I was scared last night?

"Hmm... I wonder. What were we even talking about before bed yesterday?"

"We were talking about Lady Flora's flower divination."

"Ah, right, right. In the divination, the flower didn't bloom, but a bud appeared. We talked about nurturing that bud and making it bloom."

And then we talked about the flower's meaning, and I think we ended up discussing how it might relate to who I'll marry in the future.

"I wonder what part of that conversation was scary."

Just as I finished saying that, the carriage came to a stop.

 It seemed we had arrived.

"Well, it's probably fine. Rolus is going to Mister Bruno's archive room again today, right?"

 "Lady."

"It's fine, it's fine. See you at lunch then. Oh, good morning, Rudger."

 "Yo, mornin'."

Leaving the sulking Rolus behind, I called out to Rudger, who happened to be nearby.

Rudger tilted his head slightly, looking puzzled at Rolus's sulky expression.

 Later that afternoon.

Rudger, having just finished his Spell-ology class, hurried over to me.

 "Elena, Rolus collapsed!"

 "What!?"

I stood up so abruptly that my chair fell over with a loud clatter, but I didn't have time to care about that.

"He's resting in Mister Bruno's archive room now."

"Is he okay? Wait, I'll go to the archive room right now."

"Calm down, calm down. There's only homeroom left. Wait until it's over."

 "But Rolus──"

"The nurse already checked on him. He's just sleeping."

 "But he collapsed, right?"

 "Well, yeah, he did."

 "I'm leaving early."

"Wait, wait, wait! Hey, Elena──Leve! Stop her, Leve!"

Hearing Rudger's voice, Leve, who must have been in the hallway, rushed into the classroom.

Meanwhile, Rudger grabbed my arm firmly while explaining the details to Leve.

 "Rolus?"

"The nurse said it was probably due to exhaustion and lack of sleep."

 "It's my fault."

It was my fault Rolus was exhausted and sleep-deprived.

Because I kept dragging him around.

Because I kept saying strange things.

"So, please, let me go, Rudger."

"No way. If I let go, you'll just run off."

"It's fine, right? It's just homeroom. I can leave early!"

"Well, I guess. It's not like it's a class or anything."

Was there really no need to stop me?

As I looked at Rudger, tilting his head in thought, I thought he might finally let go, but then Leve gently tapped my shoulder.

"Calm down, Elena. If you continue to rush to Rolus, he will wake up. If he is sleeping because of fatigue and lack of sleep, why don't you let him sleep for a while?"

Now that you mention it, if I went to Rolus in this state, I would open the door loudly and call his name loudly.

No matter what happens, you will end up waking up Rolus, who is tired and asleep.

Even Mean Villainess can't be that cruel.

"...Thanks, Leve. I was in a hurry"

I tried to smile, but the voice that spilled out of my mouth was trembling.

"No, it's okay. Let's pray that homeroom ends quickly."

"Yeah, well. So what's Rudger doing?"

Rudger continues to hold my upper arms and tilt his head.
