Volume 6 Chapter 2 Waiting for Spring

Volume 6 Chapter 2 Waiting for Spring

In the Marquis Waldner territory, Randy and the others spent a week digging hot springs with the knights, sharing opinions in Catherine's kotatsu, and occasionally running through the snowy fields with Yamada.

"I see. We're leaving today, right?"

 "Yes."

Randy nodded at Airen's words, but to be precise, they wouldn't fly directly to the royal capital; they would return via a town just before the royal capital.

The reason is simple: to join the carriage that was collected by [Dark Tide] and heading to the royal capital.

 Cedric and Miranda.

 Liz, Rita, and Harrison.

The carriage that Catherine and Leon rode was collected from the place where Cedric and the others had left it, just in time for their return.

Since it would soon arrive at the royal capital, they planned to join the carriage to also attend the closing ceremony.

"Miss Catherine will return for a while, right?"

"Of course. I have to attend the closing ceremony, and I have work piling up at the Cathedral."

 Catherine shrugged.

During this past week, alongside treating Airen's brother Isaac and mother Isabella, she had been working on the joint development of the kotatsu with Rolf.

Of course, the supply of copper and its processing were handled by Waldner, and they had already reached the completion of a prototype made by Waldner in just this week.

Since there was already a prototype made by Randy and the others, the completion came quickly.

Not only that, but it wasn't just completed.

They had created a satisfactory product with additional features like temperature control.

Now, the question is how to market it... but due to seasonal factors,

the sales strategy will involve discussions with Braubelg, so for now, Catherine can say she has done everything she could at Waldner.

When she first came to Waldner, the kotatsu development was forgotten due to the chaos, but as Catherine's expression shows, it can be said that satisfactory results were achieved in this past week.

Catherine smiled happily, thinking she could return to the royal capital with confidence.

 "Really, thank you for everything."

Airen bowed her head, and Catherine also bowed, saying, "No, I'll continue to rely on you."

Randy and Liz exchanged glances at the two who had completely reconciled.

While the 4 were chatting──Leon is currently training with the Waldner Knights──something came in.

"Lady Airen, a letter has arrived."

 "A letter? For me?"

The servant who brought the letter made Airen, who was chatting with Randy and the others, wear a confused expression.

 It's not surprising.

For example, with Rolf, there would surely be various letters exchanged as lord.

For example, with her brother Isaac or mother Isabella, there might be a congratulatory letter for her recovery──though very few know about her recuperation.

However, Airen herself cannot think of anything.

 Moreover...

"Yes. Two letters have arrived for Lady Airen."

 "Two?"

Airen's voice cracked involuntarily, and Randy exchanged glances with Liz and Catherine.

At such a timing, a mysterious letter for Airen.

Randy stood up, thinking, "I have to──"

Perhaps this could be an attack from [Pilgrim of Truth]....

The tension running in the room suggests that everyone is sharing that thought.

Randy subtly sensed the presence of the servant who came to deliver the letter... but there was no strange presence.

Even so, Randy carefully received both letters and dismissed the servant, saying, "Thank you very much."

As the door closed and the room fell silent, Randy looked down at the sender written on the envelope... and couldn't help but smile, saying "Hehe."

 "Randy?"

Liz tilted her head at Randy, who suddenly laughed.

 "No, just a moment──"

Laughing, Randy picked up the second envelope, but this time he slightly contorted his face, saying "I don't need this," and threw the envelope away.

 "Randy?!"

 "Boy Randolph!"

Randy hurriedly ran to pick up the thrown away envelope as the two stood up in surprise, saying, "Ah, I messed up. I just..."

 "What are you doing?"

With half disbelief and half anger, Liz puffed her cheeks while Randy scratched his head and said, "No, it's just..."

"You can't throw away a letter meant for someone else, you know."

Catherine chuckled and said to Liz, "It must be tough having a boyfriend who's an idiot."

 "Lady Airen, I'm sorry."

Randy bowed his head, and Airen shook her head with a wry smile, saying, "No, I was just surprised."

"The letter is nothing to worry about at all."

Randy, with a meaningful smile, presented the letter, causing Airen to stutter, "Ah, uh..." and nod.

She laughed, tossed the letter away, then wore this mischievous grin.

Even without Airen, it's hard not to be stunned.

 "So, who was it from?"

Hearing Liz's words, Airen looked down at the envelope, saying, "Um..."

"This is from the boy Arthur."

Airen, showing the letter Randy tossed, had a somewhat gloomy expression.

 "Ah. You don't need it..."

Liz blurted it out by accident and hurriedly covered her mouth.

But with the words slipping out, Randy showed Liz a knowing smile, saying, "Right?"

 "W-wait, I'm not..."

Panicking, Liz shook her head and finally noticed that Catherine's complexion was not good.

 Not surprisingly.

This letter came when it seemed like Airen was finally starting to recover after breaking up with Arthur.

Catherine must feel complicated emotions about it.

Should she be happy that Arthur hasn't forgotten Airen?

Or should she dismiss it with, "What now?"

Normally, she would prefer the latter, but unfortunately, the cause lies with her.

All she can do is watch over Airen and the letter with a complicated expression.

"By the way, who is the other letter from?"

Trying to change the awkward atmosphere, Liz asked about the sender of the other letter, saying, "It's the one Randy was laughing about."

"Hmm? Another one... this one is──"

Airen, looking down at it, smiled gently.

"This is nostalgic. It's from *Wayne*."

 "Wayne..."

 "...Wait, that Wayne?"

Liz and Catherine exchanged glances, and Airen tilted her head, saying, "Do you know?"

"It's not like we know anything; we were in the same group during dungeon training."
