Volume 2 Chapter 26 Report
"Huh? ...Okinawa!?"
The next day at school, I broke the big news to Sagawa and Rie-tan.
"So yeah, I got selected for this elite young Seeker training camp run by the guild. We're heading to the Ryukyu Dungeon in Okinawa tomorrow."
"A training camp for young Seekers, huh..."
Rie-tan folded her arms, nodding thoughtfully.
"So... why you?"
"...Huh?"
My brain short-circuited for a second.
"Oh, um... Apparently, they're scouting Seekers with potential."
Sagawa gasped dramatically. "No way! You got picked for that?!"
"Y-yeah."
"Wow! That's amazing!"
Rie-tan, however, was still staring me down like I was a glitch in the Matrix. "And it lasts how long?"
"Uh... about a week?"
"That's short."
"Huh? Isn't that normal for a training camp?"
Sagawa nodded in agreement. Meanwhile, Rie-tan looked like a detective piecing together a crime scene.
Was it too short? Was she onto something?!
"Well, that means we'll have to put the 'Hero Brigade' dungeon runs on hold until next week."
"Sorry, guys! I know we just started the clan, but—"
"Wait," Sagawa cut in. "Can't me and Amamiya still go without you?"
Oh? Somebody's feeling bold today.
I was about to let him down easy, but—
"Nope. Can't happen."
"Huh?! Why not?"
"Because you have a full-body examination scheduled at Amamiya Value Technology today."
"...Excuse me, what now?"
"Yeah. Kanna-san heard about your sudden skill boost and new powers and decided you need a checkup."
Sagawa blinked.
"...You're telling me the Kisaragi Kanna—genius scientist, ultimate brainiac, absolute legend—is personally checking my health?"
I nodded.
He immediately went red. "A-amazing! She actually cares about me...?! I— I need to prepare! Should I wear a suit? Bring flowers?! Write a will in case I die during testing?!"
I sighed.
Yeah. This is exactly what Kisaragi-san meant by "Sagawa is fully under my control."
"Well, since Sagawa's booked solid, dungeon activities will have to wait until the week after next."
"What about Rie-tan?"
She flipped her hair dramatically. "I'll be streaming, obviously."
"Ah, right. You are a popular D-streamer."
"N-not as much as you, Omega!"
"Huh? Omega?"
"AH! N-NOTHING! A-ANYWAY, let's do our best, guys!!"
"...Right."
For now, at least, it seemed like they weren't too suspicious about my sudden trip.
* * *
"""Huh?! Okinawa?! This Saturday?!"""
"Uh... yeah."
Mom's eyes narrowed. "That's sudden. Who's paying for this?"
"Oh, the guild's covering it."
"...They're paying for your travel?"
"Yep."
"Your hotel?"
"Uh-huh."
"Your food?!"
"Yes, Mom."
She squinted harder.
"You're sure this isn't a scam?"
"Mom."
She sighed. "Alright, alright. At least tell me they have proper supervision."
"Oh yeah, they're bringing guides and dungeon experts."
She finally relaxed. "Okay. That's a relief."
Phew. Dodged that bullet.
"But man, Takeru-nii, you must be something special to get picked for this!"
I turned to my younger sister, Ami, feeling a twinge of pride—
Only for Yumi to cut in with a suspicious squint.
"Yeah, totally... especially since you literally became a Seeker yesterday."
THUMP.
Internal screaming intensifies.
"Uhh... L-lucky pick, maybe? Haha...?"
She just stared at me.
Oh no. She knows.
Abort. ABORT.
"Well, gotta pack! Bye!!"
I yeeted myself out of there at maximum velocity before she could start an interrogation.
