Volume 2 Chapter 70 The Situation of the New Trans Potion (II)
"Yeah, Takeru's right. I mean, can the Seekers we've got now, with just their enhanced physical abilities, really take on Talking Monsters? Honestly, I think it's gonna be tough. If it's a mechanical Talking Monster, sure, maybe a C-class ranker or higher could handle it. But when it comes to Baron-level Talking Monsters, or even Magdala's 'Four Pillars'—we're talking at least an A-class top ranker, or maybe even a mid S-class. That's my take on it."
"..."
Kisaragi-san, the guy who knows more about Trans Potions than anyone in the world, shares his insight. It's spot-on. I totally agree with him. I'm pretty sure Sakurako's on the same page too.
"Truth is, there aren't that many A-class top to mid S-class Seekers out there. Maybe a hundred or so, max."
"And yeah, we can't even be sure all of them would drink the Trans Potion. I mean, it boosts physical abilities, so a lot of Seekers would probably be down for it. But there are definitely going to be plenty who chicken out because of the side effects."
I think Kisaragi's onto something here. Trans Potion sounds pretty sketchy to anyone who's never heard of it.
But the real issue isn't even that.
"With regular Trans Potions, even if you can get new skills, you've got to be willing to deal with the side effects. So if the Trans Potion requires that... even fewer people are going to drink it."
I lay out the crux of the problem.
"Yeah, probably."
"Sounds about right..."
The two of them sigh dramatically and slump their shoulders. I mean, really lay it on thick, huh?
But then... Kisaragi-san does a 180.
"I thought so at first too, but... maybe things won't turn out that way."
"Huh? What do you mean?"
Sakurako-tan and I blink at Kisaragi-san's cryptic words, clearly not expecting this.
"Come on in!"
Kisaragi-san calls out towards the back room like she's got some sort of magic reveal up her sleeve.
Then...
"O-oh, long time no see, Takeru-kun..."
"H-hey, Takeru..."
Who walks out of the room?
Rie-tan and Sagawa.
I'm frozen. Absolutely thrown.
Wait... Did they just... walk out of the back room, like it's some casual Tuesday?
And what the heck are they doing here?
We were literally just talking about 'Omega,' and now I'm here with Rie-tan and Sagawa—both of them in on the fact that 'Omega' is me. This is... bad.
What just happened?
"Takeru-kun. The reason I called them here is because they already know you're Omega."
"Huh?!"
"And they've known for quite a while..."
"What the...!"
Kisaragi-san just dropped a bombshell on me.
They've known I'm Omega for ages? What the heck?!
Eeeeeh?!
Seriously?!
I start to spiral into mini-freakout mode, and it's not pretty.
"I'm sorry, Takeru-kun..."
Rie-tan's voice cuts through my panic, and when I turn to face her, my heart sinks. She looks... stiff. Actually, she looks like she's just been hit by a bus. Pale. Shaky.
"I-I really wanted to tell you sooner that you were Omega, but... I just couldn't bring myself to..."
"...Rie-tan."
Rie-tan's face scrunches like she's about to cry... no, wait, tears are already welling up in her eyes. I can see it.
"I mean, what if... what if I tell you and Takeru-kun hates me? Or what if... you disappear from our lives because his identity got exposed? I just... I couldn't bring myself to say it!"
"..."
Rie-chan's words spill out in a rushed torrent. She's been bottling this up for who knows how long, and now it's flooding out of her all at once. The tears that she was holding back come pouring down her face like the floodgates have finally opened.
It's time to talk.
I take a deep breath, trying to steady myself as I look at Rie-chan.
"Since when... did you know?"
