Rai and Noah, with their captured enemy, bound tightly with rough ropes.
They'd secured the 3 men and boy, just in case they were ever possessed again.
"So, what do we do, senior?"
"Hmm, what to do..."
Honestly, things are pretty bad.
If they're possession-type ability users, they can launch surprise attacks from here on out with no risk to themselves.
They have to keep searching for clues to their true forms while on guard for ambushes.
"It's a pretty dire situation. But the only lead we have is──"
"The fact that the lord and the Reincarnator are definitely connected."
Yeah, that much is for sure.
So, the plan is to investigate the lord's surroundings, but...
"We definitely don't want to waste time."
"What do you mean?"
"Noah, when facing possession-type ability users, what's the most important thing to watch out for?"
"──Is it us being possessed?"
Noah's answer made Rai nod in affirmation.
The most straightforward way to deal with a possession-type ability user was to prevent them from possessing themselves.
"But they didn't do that just now, right?"
"Yeah. So, they couldn't possess us──"
There must be conditions for them to possess someone.
An incredibly powerful possession ability.
But even abilities like that have their limits, as proven by past cases.
"Maybe the ability is limited to possessing people of a certain gender, or only within a certain range, or maybe even only animals."
"Maybe there are conditions for possession, and we just happened to be outside those conditions this time?"
"I think so."
"──Hold on, does that mean we don't know when we might become each other's worst enemies!?"
"Yeah, that's right."
We might still be outside the conditions, but we don't know when we'll meet them.
Because we don't even know what those conditions are.
There's not even a preventative measure.
"If possible, I want to settle this quickly. But it's going to be tough."
What remains is the ruin of the end of the sinister poverty.
Rai rested his chin on his hand, deep in thought about what to do next.
Maybe it would be easier to just torture the lord's family for information.
Just as that dark idea began to creep into his mind──
"Hey, senior, I've got a kind of good plan!"
"Funny you should say that, I was just thinking about torturing the lord's family myself."
"No, no, that's not it at all!"
Noah flinched at Rai's ominous suggestion.
"Listen, um...──"
What Noah whispered to Rai was indeed a plan that might just be the most effective approach given their current situation.
