Volume 1 Chapter 20 Press Conference

Volume 1 Chapter 20 Press Conference

 The world conference was called.

But in reality, the true purpose was to 'drag as many countries into this as possible' without hesitation.

──"Call everyone who wants to pick a fight with us."

The people gathered for the press conference, standing before the 'Hero', must have hesitated for a moment, surely.

But because they loved their 'house' and not the people, and because they were always watching their own backs, they quickly concluded, 'These are allies.'

The conference began with a complete condemnation of Ashton Lecoitenides' reckless actions, and on top of that, Rangella's claim that 'they are underestimating the Hero.'

"If you have something to say, go ahead," she said... and maybe about ten minutes passed.

"Just because you defeated the Demon Lord, don't get cocky! We recognize your accomplishments, sure. But we don't think you deserve any authority!"

"You are commoners! It's only natural to serve the nobility! If you have the power to save the world, you should use it to build cozy relationships with the nobility!"

"And about the Demon Lord's defeat? It's because the nobility exist in this world that we were able to endure the Demon Lord's invasion! To think that the Hero alone saved the world──how arrogant!"

"Your teacher is the Golem Master? What a joke! People who play around with mud dolls like that, do you think they can train commoners to defeat the Demon Lord?"

"Yeah, that's right! There must have been something shady going on! Corruption! This injustice must be punished properly! Let's hear it all!"

"And the Hero is mistaken. By giving all the riches gained from the Demon Lord's defeat to the world conference and the nobility, you will be recognized by the world!"

"You made yourselves go into debt, and now you say 'we saved the world'──stop contradicting yourselves! You may look good on the outside, but inside, you're ugly!"

Insults flew left and right, targeting Hero Rangella, the hero community, and their teacher Horace.

As expected, no one could openly deny the fact that "the hero defeated the Demon Lord" during a press conference held at the world conference facility.

Even if they didn't agree with the hero's actions, it was still unthinkable to go so far as to say, "The Demon Lord might not have actually been defeated."

The Demon Lord's defeat was acknowledged by the world conference itself, and they were nobles.

It was something the 'king' had decided, and no one could directly refute it in public.

Still, for those who constantly try to find faults with others, there were always plenty of things to criticize.

Seizing the opportunity that Rangella remained silent, they continued to open their mouths one after another.

Rangella wasn't saying anything... No, it would be more accurate to say she couldn't speak because a torrent of words was pouring down on her, leaving no chance to respond.

"On top of that, to be in the Chaos Stone Dragonstone Kingdom... an unforgivable act! The hero, as the leader of the community, should be engaged to the Crown Prince of Diamante Kingdom, the largest kingdom in the world!"

"Exactly! The executives are also obligated to form relationships with princes from the great nations of the world!"

"The hero's master, knowing that the world could change at any moment, why did he choose to stay with the hero in Dragonstone Kingdom? He should be dedicating his knowledge and skills to the world, teaching, and leading society!"

"They don't even understand what they should be doing. That's why you peasants are so foolish!"

After listing all the criticisms of their actions, the discussion shifted to what their future should be after the Demon Lord's defeat.

Or rather... it was about the hero community and Horace's 'future.'

The nobles gathered here unconsciously believed that they had the right to strip peasants of their freedom and future.

Authoritarianism... no, it was a typical malicious form of aristocracy and elitism.

What the nobles said was correct in the eyes of the peasants, and it was something that should remain absolutely inviolable, with no one daring to interfere.

The world conference was a gathering of nations advocating for 'independence from the gods,' but were they thinking they had become gods themselves?

This wasn't like some reporter who fires off questions one after another, twisting everything just to suit themselves.

From the start, it was like saying, "Give everything to us nobles," ignoring all sense and logic, forcing through what shouldn't be possible.

 (...This should be enough.)

 Rangella muttered to herself quietly.

Sure, this time Rangella had told everyone, "Bring all the troublemakers here."

So it was obvious this kind of mess would happen, like watching a fire burn.

 That was how it was.

Rangella slowly showed her palm to them...

 'Be quiet.'

 With a sharp stop──

At Rangella's single word, all the nobles

 fell silent.

It was more than that... like suddenly being thrown onto a freezing cold wasteland where no one would come to help, they felt a pressure so strong it made their whole bodies tremble.

'You're getting way too worked up on your own. The head of the Duke Lecoitenides family claimed that we're nothing but toys for your lust, surrounding the hero's mansion. I asked you all if you had any thoughts on that, and this is the result. It's basically saying the world conference has no intention of apologizing to the hero who defeated the Demon Lord.'

 ...Someone swallowed hard.

'I don't care what ideology you hold, nor will I question if it's good or bad. That's just a waste of time. But far too many of you did nothing in the Demon Lord's defeat, yet you're all mistaken about us.'

With just a piercing look, she shut down the entire gathered crowd, keeping them silent, forcing them to understand her alone.

 They would regret it.

 Why they resisted.

 Why they got cocky.

 Why, why, why...

'My master gave me power. I was able to defeat the Demon Lord. What could you do? Nothing. Those who did nothing have no right to criticize those who did something. If you want to watch us from a safe distance, copy us, or learn something, fine. But don't deny how we are, and don't get cocky if you know nothing, you ignorant bloodlines.'

 Rangella continued speaking.

 'Really, you guys──'

...At that moment, the door at the back opened.

"Can you wait before giving up on the world?"

 '...Who are you?'

"Can't you tell from my build and presence? It's Valzeil Diamante. It's been since that 'ceremony' day. The hero Rangella."

 Still, Rangella's intimidating presence remained.

Yet, amidst that, Valzeil walked straight through the 'demonic' land where all the nobles knelt, as a king.
