Volume 1 Chapter 25 Horace VS Astral Dragon Gai Gigant II
Human and dragon fight in the sky.
No, not just in the sky, but usually, the dragon wins.
Overwhelming size and life force.
Breath that pierces everything from its mouth.
Against such a being, mankind can only be trampled.
That's why whoever kills a dragon is called a hero, and the title of Dragon Slayer tempts people.
Among such dragons, standing out so much is the Astral Dragon Gai Gigant...
"Oraaagh!"
Horace slammed a right straight into its stomach.
The dragon was blown away, falling onto a plain a bit away from the royal city, creating a crater in the ground.
"Tch. Because I turned the bone golem's performance to 'stability', I'm not fighting as strongly as I thought. Over there, they're probably about 80 percent done, but huff..."
Horace sighs.
"If I don't allocate more to 'calculation power', bullets just get blocked by scales. I've loaded the record, but actually fighting feels pretty different."
Horace mutters about his current situation.
Basically, the 'gun-type golem' he uses is powered by activating the bone golem inside him, and boosting its 'calculation power' that directly controls the 'golem operation ability', so he can shoot 'powerful bullets'.
But right now, he's using the bone golem not for 'calculation power', but to 'stabilize' his magic inside, so the bullets don't pack as much punch.
So, basically, he's just punching instead of shooting.
"Huh?"
Gai Gigant is gathering magic in its mouth.
"A breath..."
Gai Gigant releases a breath from its mouth... and it vanishes immediately.
"Mimicry. But too bad."
Its eyes are faintly glowing.
Although not threatening, it's different. And at the same time, it swings a fist wrapped in magic, ready to strike.
Just as it caught the breath, the mimicry breaks, revealing its form, and everything collapses.
"You look surprised... but your breath attack is just shooting out magic power. Since magic tries to stay stable, if you tell it 'being in air is more stable than breath mode' and overwrite it, even a breath attack that's not really material can be taken out with one punch."
Horace smiled.
"This is the power of 'learning' that comes from unraveling the nature of magic. Don't underestimate humans."
Normally, breath is classified like 'wind', so whether you swing a sword, hammer, or shoot bullets, it can't be stopped.
Flailing a fan is like water on a burning stone.
But as long as it's made of 'magic', you can change the state from 'breath' to 'ordinary air'.
If it weren't made of magic and everything was genuine 'air', then no, but if you understand the fundamentals, 'theoretically' you can block it with one punch.
"Hmm? Breath again? Boring to use the same attack... but wait, that's bad!"
Gai Gigant launches a breath attack.
And it's not invisible.
It's a clearly visible breath.
But Horace jumps in the air to dodge the breath.
"Tch, My words probably don't make sense to him, but he saw through that punch just now. Maybe he ramped up his stability so it doesn't overwrite his magic with my fist?"
Horace sighs heavily.
"That's some crazy power. I wouldn't be able to do it without focusing all my 'calculation power'... But maybe there's a paper about causal links between drop items and monster properties. If you think about it like that, it's not so unbelievable... and wait, it's that again."
Gai Gigant fires another breath.
Horace dodges and kicks off the air to get closer.
"Hey, cut that out!"
He slams his iron fist into Gai's face.
His neck spins almost like it's about to snap, while he coils magic into his mouth and faces Horace.
"Come on!"
But Horace punches the magic power just before it turns into breath.
And the magic disappears into his mouth...
"Gyaaaooooaaa!"
Gai Gigant screams loudly.
A faint 'boom!' sound echoes, so you can imagine the scene.
"Shut up...!"
Gai Gigant yells and swings his hand, throwing a punch.
The huge dragon's hand smacks Horace square in the face.
It just pushes Horace flying super fast.
"Duw... Tch."
Horace clicks his tongue, kicks off the air, flips upside down.
He keeps control, standing in the air.
"... Huh?"
Gai Gigant's vibe gets a little quiet.
As Horace notices, for a split second, Boom!
Purple aura blasts out, shaking the air around.
"... Looks like he's ready."
Next moment, a punch bashed down on Horace.
"Whoa!"
Horace kicks in the air, dodging.
The punch hits the ground so hard it causes a big quake.
"Teleport? No, just quick short-distance moves. Ugh!"
Purple bullets shoot out from Gai Gigant's mouth straight for Horace.
"Tch..."
He keeps jumping away, dodging bullets.
But before he knows it, his long tail swings over his head.
"Ooooh yeah!"
He crosses both arms in defense.
But the huge weight difference still hits him hard.
Just before crashing into the ground, he holds himself up on a 30cm 'platform', so he doesn't land.
"You bastard!"
He kicks the tail away, unleashing a gray aura that feels super intimidating.
Gai Gigant leans back a little.
"Hah... What?"
Gai Gigant gathers magic inside his mouth... the mouth points toward the royal capital.
"...Well, I won't call it cowardly. Just standard tactics. A basic move in war. Sigh... maybe the 4th or fifth best, but can't be helped."
He kicks off the ground again.
Gai Gigant unleashes a breath attack, aiming straight ahead.
"Really..."
The breath hits Horace dead on, causing a huge explosion.
The blast digs into the ground, smoke rising, blocking everything from sight.
"...Grr?"
Gai Gigant tilts his head.
Even though he caused the big explosion, he still feels like he's not really *there*. His presence doesn't fade.
"...Alright, last round."
Horace raises his right hand, wearing a red 'armored golem'.
In his left hand, he gripped a cube that was 3 centimeters to a side, its lamp softly flickering.
"It's not finished, but it's just right for a test run."
Horace, who had just blocked the earlier breath attack with his right hand alone, connected the cube in his left to a square depression on his left hip.
Then, the white lines running along the armor softly glowed.
The glow quickly faded, but Horace's presence only grew stronger.
"The development code name for this is 'Deus Ex Machina'... It doesn't matter how strong you are. My victory is already written in the scenario."
A sword appeared in his right hand.
Gripping the sword that felt like it was from 'the future' with its mechanical elegance, he pointed its tip at Gai Gigant.
