Volume 4 Chapter 12 You Didn't Think It Was an International Major Issue, Did You?
The Sakura Empire, located far to the east of this continent, at its eastern edge, was destroyed by a great power beyond the Eastern Sea.
Yet, Miloslaf says that Sakura was supposedly wiped out by the Quechua Empire to the west of here.
That doesn't make sense.
When I tossed out my doubts, Miloslaf nodded as if understanding something, muttering, "Ah, I see."
"You mean the Quechua continent to the west is the same as the one beyond Sakura Empire's Eastern Sea?"
"........."
I couldn't grasp what Miloslaf was saying, so I silently sought help from Suzu.
I'm already too confused to keep questioning.
"Big Bro Ryuuji, Suzu has heard that the world is round and the east and west are connected. If what this old man says is true, there must be something behind it."
"Don't listen to this guy. But, the magician girl is right. The world is round. It's common sense in the Romanov Empire."
"The world is... round..."
I can't picture it at all.
What does 'round' mean?
So, are maps with square edges wrong?
"...Ah, Ryuuji seems really confused, so I'll ask the questions."
Lene stepped forward to take my place, my head spinning with confusion.
Wait, did Lene easily understand this fact?
She really is a genius...
"Oh, a question from the beautiful elf lady. I'll answer anything. How about dinner tonight in return?"
"Hey, don't make eyes at someone else's wife."
"Ah, he's back."
Shaking my head, I tried to joke with my wife, but then Miloslaf pounced, and soon all 3, including Suzu, were laughing at me.
Damn it.
"...Well, I still can't understand that the world is round, but I guess I'll accept the story that the Quechua Empire in the west destroyed my home, the Sakura Empire."
"You don't think I'm lying, do you, Count?"
Seeing Miloslaf's grin, I shook my head and replied, "No way."
There's no reason to lie about the world being round, and besides──
"You should know that saying such things in front of a high-ranking magician is pointless."
"Ahem, Suzu is a high-ranking magician!"
There's my little sister puffing out her chest like she's all that, but I'll just let it be.
Whether the world is round or if the Sakura Empire was destroyed by the country on the western continent, that's not really what matters here.
What really concerns me is why this guy knows all this, and if my guess is right, then this knight from the evil cult's temple is revealing something shocking.
"I just want to confirm, are you from the Empire?"
I asked what was on my mind.
Miloslaf had said knowing the world is round is "common sense in the Romanov Empire."
"...Well, from the context of our conversation, I think you get it. Yes, I was born and raised in the Romanov Empire."
The black knight shrugged his shoulders, still tied to my question.
So that's how it is.
Then──this might be a troubling fact for the Romanov Empire and other foreign countries, right?
"A knight like you must be a well-known figure in your country. If a famous knight is serving Abnella, who's referred to internationally as the Evil God, then that must be widely known too. Why is the Romanov Empire letting that slide?"
"...Ah."
Lene let out a soft voice, as if she understood the meaning of the next question.
It seemed that my wife also realized this was a serious problem.
Yes, a knight this strong couldn't possibly be unknown in the Romanov Empire.
Then──there can only be one answer.
"If you've figured that much out, then I don't even need to answer, right?"
"I want to hear it clearly from your mouth."
When I answered Miloslaf's sarcastic remark clearly, the black knight looked up at the ceiling of the warehouse and said, "Yeah, that's true."
"...Just as you imagined. We, the followers of Lady Abnella, are a recognized presence in the Romanov Empire."
"........."
In other words, what Miloslaf is saying is this.
The Romanov Empire shows a stance of not allowing the existence of cults internationally, but on the other hand, they do not prohibit worship within the country.
"...Isn't this an enormous international problem?"
"I think so too."
I held my head in my hands, and Lene and Suzu let out quiet sighs.
I never thought that the enemy we had fought so hard against was being protected by the Romanov Empire.
"Now I have even more to report to His Majesty..."
I muttered this while rubbing my throbbing head.
Even if I reported it, I doubt I could blame the Romanov Empire for this issue.
It's just one cultist saying this.
The Empire would deny it, and they might even retaliate for the accusation.
"So, what happens to me? I really need to go to the bathroom soon."
Miloslaf, shaking his bound body, was saying something with no tension at all.
It's fine to keep him restrained like this, but──
"For now, let's take measures to avoid being sealed by mouth. Suzu, I'll rely on your subordinate magic."
"Mhm. Roger that."
Haa..., we've run into a really troublesome problem, haven't we?
